I don't know my IQ. I skipped a grade in elementary school so maybe it was above average. I think my bipolar disorder kept me from making much of it though. I'm too mentally ill to be successful I think. I have had issues with drugs and alcohol too. I used to numb myself with them and it made it easier to connect with people on a surface level.

I am married. My wife is very different from me. She's more successful, more educated very book-smart, emotionally intelligent, and an all around "good girl". I don't have to numb myself to connect with her.

IQ is correlated with education level, and more educated women are more likely to be married and have lasting marriages. It may be linked to better financial situation of such couples which means at least one source of conflicts less. Educated men have healthier lifestyle, so most likely problems like substance abuse are less prevalent.

But that lack of marriage... Is it coming from a disinterest from them to settle down? Is it from the women having difficulty finding someone else (man or woman) of equal or higher intelligence? Is it because of men being intimidated by someone so smart? Those are important factors.

While Reddit shows a small slice of the global population, I've seen many stories (and some experience) of those with Masters or PhDs being out of touch with the real world in some aspects, not having street smarts. So those with lower IQs may be more aware of appropriate behavior and mannerisms otherwise. In both cases people only gain knowledge from what they're exposed to.

Autism is NOT a personality disorder. People with autism generally struggle to make connections with others because they fail to fit the social norm and struggle to read social cues. Studies suggest that people with autism have lower levels of emotional intelligence. That is why they struggle to date. It's not their IQ.

I’m well in the gifted range. I married a man also in the gifted range. That’s the answer.

One of my friends - oldest and closest - is a smidge above 100. She is far far more intelligent when it comes to dealing with people than I am. I mean it. I stood up as her MOH and praised her intelligence and her forthrightness straight in the face of her awful (and very high IQ) brother and father. She’s built a joyful successful life with a great husband.

People with with high intellectual capabilities in one area sometimes are very dismissive of others whose strengths lie elsewhere. There are several types of intelligence.

Highly intelligent people just dont like dealing with other people, even most other highly intelligent people. It goes for both genders. It just happens that high IQ males have their dick forcing them to interact with women for sex thus dating and marrying considerably more than high IQ women. A genius of statistics that worked with me a decade ago described it like this "talking is not stimulating because its too slow. I am already tired of waiting to talk about the time a person finishes a sentence". they just think too quickly and normal conversation easily bores them to death. but give a challenging activity to do that would take a normal person a week to do and they are entertained for an afternoon.

I’m rather skeptical of any claim or “stat” that is un-cited that refers to IQ.

IQ tests are not regularly given the population and are kind of sus to begin with; so any study using it is small sample size.

It tends to be used as a clickbait-y headline where IQ is inferred by some other bell curve attribute correlating for intelligence (like education level or income or whatever).

That said, I’m not sure why this is gendered. Intelligence going up tends to correlate with more isolation (and unhappiness) for men too.

This again seems clickbait-y to spur some debate that marriage is unfavorable to women or whatever - whereas the reality is quite the opposite. In 2024 the institution is primarily for their benefit and a bit of a liability for men.

to answer your question I got tested once at 135 but I'm careful not to blame that for my dating failures (my dating failures are because I'm bald at 24). I'm sure if I was 135 and extremely socially active I'd be better off

but I do relate to difficulties in socializing as the scope of most normies' conversations is very limited. I'm usually very very quiet in groups, not because I can't think of anything to say, but because I know that if I say what I'm thinking, I'll fuck up the flow of conversation. I learned this because I've done it hundreds of times

I don't really mind people being emotionally biased unless we're in an internet debate setting; I can usually piece together why people feel the way they do and what led them to their conclusions regardless, even if I think those conclusions are stupid

I sometimes wonder if there are any other kinds of highly intelligent people beyond autists. I never met an highly intelligent person who is not really autistic in some way. Ive met some people who know how to seem intelligent without being intelligent beyond the norm. (like some people with Antisocial Personality Disorder in medicine or Narcissists in management) but all people I could verify their actual intelligence and I could safely put in the top 10% were autistic. many to a debilitating degree.

I do not know what my IQ is but I have been told I come across as intelligent and was in gifted classes when I was a kid. I think sometimes I rant my husbands ear off with going on tangents, and most of my close friends are pretty nerdy and we go into long conversations about niche subjects, actually most of my best friends are autistic. I think me and my husband go together just fine and understand each other, I am SUPER talkative and he is SUPER quiet, it works.

Intelligent women tend to be in relationships but don’t bother with the marriage thing based on what I’ve seen. They usually have some money, so a marriage would not benefit them economically like it does less intelligent women. But I don’t think that intelligent women have problems with interacting with the opposite sex, if that’s what you’re trying to get at.

Not sure about the IQ tests, they are not universal tbh. Your score can greatly vary from one IQ test to the other since they don't measure the same criterias in general. Even in psychology or in AI it's hard to have a universal definition of intelligence

Statements like these are worthless. Autism is not a personality disorder, and "many people tend" is not making any sense. Either "high iq people tend to have autism (correlation)", or "many high iq people have autism (percentage or absolute number?)" where you also need to define what "many" is, because it could be 30% or 50000.

What do you want to say and what are your sources?

Yeah, if we're using data from the 882 people included in the Scottish mental survey of 1932. It's heavily outdated and basically irrelevant unless we're using it to make cultural distinctions to more recent data.

If we look at 1994, then for people in general higher iq correlates to higher likelihood of being married within the decade for adolescents.

Though a lot of the correlation is multilayered.

Height correlates with iq.

Education correlates with iq.

Socioeconomic status correlates with education.

All of these correlate with income.

Controlling for each of these modestly correlating factors, each attenuates the effect some. Showing they can all be independent factors. However , controlling for all of them makes the iq effect alone pretty minimal so we're generally looking at a snowball effect with other related covariables.

Based on what? How many high IQ people do you know? None I know seem autistic at all.

Also, I don't quite like the autism word in general, since it's so subjective. Like "I like to be alone a lot" and "I like to focus on things a lot" and BOOM you're autistic.

With that said what's your IQs I've tested twice once at 6 for 135 again at 15 for 138.

You tested that with what? The Mensa test or some random online IQ test? I think everyone can get pretty high IQ result from those online test if they just take them couple of times.

Regarding your original topics. I think high IQ can be challenging especially for woman, since high IQ means you can do a lot with your mind, which then kind of makes you a researcher in heard and hence you have a lot of topics which interest you and hence you eventually kind of become an expert on a lot of topics. This might be a challenge for women because men might be a little intimidated by that - that is that a woman knows a lot more than what they do - and hence men might just back off from these woman, thinking that they don't have a change in impressing that woman due to their high overall knowledge of things, as well as their ability to sniff out BS.

Like lets be honest, a lot of times men like to exaggerate themselves to woman to impress them, which is very hard to do if the woman is very smart and hence a lot of men might just move on to "easier targets". Like men might feel like that if the woman can truly see through all of their BS and see them as what they truly are, that they might not have a very good change with that woman, since they know that they aren't the best man around, and hence if a woman can see it, they will reject them, and hence there is no point even trying.

Consider that the intelligence gap between 150 and 100 is roughly equal to the one between a 100 and a hamster (50 IQ), so a 150 pairing with a 100 is more like getting a pet than a partner, and having to dumb down nearly every thought gets old very very fast. Additionally, nobody likes to be in a position of a pet hamster in a relationship, no matter the level of intelligence. So you really have no option other than marrying or partnering in your IQ bracket 🤷🏽‍♂️

And yes, I would trade 50 IQ points for happiness and a partner any day, but alas...

Okay, so, let's just make this clear: IQ is one of the worst judges of actual intelligence. It's not compared across databases or has one universal standard. I've gotten my IQ tested by a neurologist and neuropsychiatrist, and even they said it's not the best judge. Most scores are inflated by individual factors, so most people need to chop about 20-30 points off before even beginning to see their actual IQ. I work in a place where there are genuine geniuses from MIT and CalTech. One day, they decided to have 1 of these super smart people do the test, and it came back with 190. I didn't even know that was possible. It's really unlikely that is his actual IQ, and he said as much.

Now, that said, conflating IQ to lack of dating success in either genders is pretty dumb. I went to an Ivy, and the smartest girls there were just as successful, if not more successful, than the dumb girls. Smarter girls tend to have a greater ability to reflect on their own actions and seek out criticism. The dumber ones tended to think they did nothing wrong and gave it no further thought. The most beautiful girl at my school was involved in advanced physics research. Attractive girls tend to go after things they want, and tend to be much better at getting those things. They tend to have more income, and are more financially stable, so they can spend more on their appearance. There's also a good amount of research to suggest that physically attractiveness and intelligence are genuinely correlative.
