I see posts like "men do everything just to skip therapy" all over social media by women.

Men and women are different. They are not the same. The difference between sexes goes way beyond just genitals.

Men tend to use more task oriented and problem solving coping strategies. Women tend to use more emotion focused coping and support seeking. Thats not just culturally but also biological ingraned.

Men's issues often times need different approaches than women's issues. While there are different kinds of therapies, most of them revolve around talking, solving by talking. Ive been there, trust me.

Things that work for women, might not work for men, and we should stop pretending it does.

Bertha Pappenheim was treated by Josef Breuer in the 1880s. At some point in a session as a patient, she pretty much said that she is done with listening, wants to talk and he should listen. And thats what she did, and it seemed like it worked better for her. The common therapy was basically kickstarted by a female patient. Its seen by alot as the origin of the Psychoanalysis therapy.

Im not saying therapy cant help men at all and there is no reason not to try it out, dont get me wrong.

But acting like its this one fits all solution, because women just seem to make better experiences with it, is not helping men.

Alot of men need goals, they need told what to do and get to work. Thats our therapy. Thats why many men hit the gym after a breakup, and it works. I know it sounds stereotypical, but sitting in a room talking to a stranger is not doing it for alot of men.

And women have to open their mind about the possibility that what works for them, might not work exactly the same for us.
