I'm bringing this question up because I noticed a post on a women's dating subreddit where the users and moderators are actively advocating snooping on their male partners' phones without their consent.

Another unhinged post from paranoid FDS women who are not psychologically ready to be in relationships. They unironically need therapy. Going into a relationship and immediately violating the foundation of trust with dishonest behavior is a red flag.

On the flip side: If you want to look at your partners things just ask. If something has happened that made you suspicious, it's very likely you will find something. This is why some couples therapists will recommend an open device policy. The expectation that you have full privacy is not congruent with being in a committed relationship, especially if there are trust issues.

Also - don't cheat, physically or emotionally. Don't post unhinged extremist content on subs like MGTOW/FDS that would make your partner hate you if they read it. It's normal to have private things on your phone that you'd prefer others not to see, but it's not normal to have things you need to hide because they are bad.

Snooping sucks. I know a lot of people feel it necessary, but couldn’t be me. If anything, we know too much about each other’s lives and are similarly unmotivated to snoop. Personally, I feel that if you need to snoop you need to talk.

I'd call FDS as much of a dating advice group as I'd call TRP a dating advice group. I would take whatever both groups say with a heavy grain of salt. That being said me and my wife both know as much of each other's login stuff as we can remember, mostly for convenience. Accessing google maps while driving, getting netflix going before dinner, that sort of thing. Were I dating someone I hadn't been involved with for a long period of time I would likely restrict access to my phone and google account as I would any other friend. If there's trust, you shouldn't need to snoop, if there's not, you shouldn't be in the relationship anyway.

I think it's not a nice thing to do and shouldn't be encouraged. I also think it's something pretty much everyone has done whether they'll admit it or not.

Feeling the need to do it doesn't bode well for the relationship, but I don't necessarily think it's a death sentence either.

I think past a certain point in a relationship it's just not a relevant concept because you both have access to each other's devices and probably know passcodes etc. At that point I think if a person is being cagey and secretive about their passwords that is probably cause for concern.

Sharing my passwords with my ex turned out really bad for me. He dumped me, but then changed his mind and when I finally didn’t take him back he went a little off the deep end and started logging into some of my accounts, screenshoot some convos I had with male classmates and tried to frame it as me cheating, threatened to post stuff on my accounts if I didn’t talk to him, etc. So I fully agree with this. If someone wants to go through my socials or my phone I’m more than glad to unlock it and hand it over, but if you want my passwords you can fuck off.

I'm not ok with snooping. I'm kinda territorial about my stuff. If you want to do something with my stuff (like put my shirt in the washing machine) you need to ask me or, at the very least, inform me about your intentions to the object.

When I want to use other's stuff, I ask for permission and inform of the intentions (like asking dad for his computer password, because I need to quickly check something on the internet and his computer is turned on (and mine is shut down)).

I "trained" my mom to when she tidies the comon places (everyone cleans their own rooms and when there is a lot of your stuff in the common rooms you tidy up your stuff) and wants to put away some of my stuff, that she should put them on my bed and then I will put them wehere I want them.

I am on the other side of the argument. I believe that 2 partners should have full access to each others phones/computers. That solves the snooping problem too. If you cant do that, you have no business being in a relationship.

There is a reason traditional marriages worked. There was no keeping secrets from each other. But ever since social media becane a thing everyone got all fussy about privacy. If you act on each others behalf on social media and the internet (as in you dont do sneaky or direspectful stuff) your relationship has a much higher chance of succeeding.

Keeping secrets in relationships was never a thing associated with relationship success. Dont try to make it, it clearly doesnt work.

Of course it's a great way for men to make women look bad "oh I didn't give my consent for you to see that on my phone." With that said, we are now in the age that many apps make it way too easy to hide messages, images, etc. You can go through the phone of the nastiest, porn-addicted, cheating SOB and still find nothing. It only works if the cheater is still very inexperienced compared to the catcher, pretty much.

But I think the real issue here is that deep down, most women would prefer to ignore their male partners' cheating if they don't have to confront it. So I think that on balance, it's a bad idea for a woman to snoop on her man.

Personally I hate the idea of snooping through someone’s phone and only did it went my ex’s phone got a notification for a dating site. Came up on his Home Screen, was having my doubts but once I saw those notifications, I knew it wasn’t just doubts. Personally I’m staying away from dating for a bit to try and get over that but I realize it’s not fair to put my next partner under super scrutiny for what a past partner did. I don’t trust my instincts to not be clouded by my previous relationship so I plan on working on it.

Also depends entirely on the relationship, I’ve know some people who just freely switch phones with their SO for whatever reason but they don’t feel like they are hiding anything. On the other side some people just value privacy more and both are reasonable I believe. Just depends on how you and your partner decide to proceed

I don’t feel any sympathy for people who cheat and then complain that their partner snooped on their phone. None whatsoever. However, snooping when you don’t have any evidence to justify it (if you’re married then evidence is useful in court, and again, if you’re 90% certain and snooped for closure, the cheater doesn’t have my sympathy), is a slippery slope into emotional abuse.

I would instead advocate transparency with your partner. Share where you’re going and who you’re with, and expect the same from them. If they don’t, then leave and find someone who does. My partner and I look at memes on each other’s phones without any issues and we have never snooped on each other, despite the fact both of us have severe trust issues. We acknowledge our trust issues and remain open.

We don't generally look up the others stuff unless there's a reason to do so, but we use the same LastPass membership, know phone unlocks and card pins etc. We're going into marriage, at that point there's practical reasons now everything isn't paper based. If anything happens to one of us access to some accounts makes things easier. A bit different from someone you don't really know I guess.

If he wanted to look up my stuff I wouldn't care so much for the content (because it's boring), if he feels the need to snoop at 'nothing hidden' trust levels then I'm probably doing something wrong.

If you feel the need to snoop, something is probably already wrong. Likewise, if you feel the need to disable fingerprint and face recognition and switch up your lock pattern, something is probably already wrong.

I do get where the FDS post is coming from but don’t fully agree. Imo snooping is sometimes justified (maybe you suspect your spouse is cheating but you really need to know for sure before filing for divorce), but you shouldn’t just be violating your partner’s privacy. I know I wouldn’t be ok with that. As I said before, if it’s at that point, it’s already over.

Full disclosure: there was one time that I snooped. It wasn’t so much about the possibility of cheating, but I will not lie, I had concerns. Well sometimes it's appropriate. But it's a matter of self control more and the importance of it. There are times when suspicious circumstances have justified it. Your SO has brought over 1 million strange men or women into your bedroom while you were away and they have always the stench of sex pervading every part of their existence. At that point its just kind of a war begets war, everything is fair in love and war thing. You're not really doing anything wrong by being righteously suspicious.

However, if there isn't any good reason there's no justification for it, unless it's extremely mundane, like maybe seeing what television shows they subscribe to to see if you guys like the same stuff or something. In other cases where the person is acting selfishly, impulsively, irrationally, hostile, or violates any of the basic things of ettiquete between relationships it's wrong.

I especially hate it if what they've done was destroy or tamper with something extremely delicate to satisfy a purely selfish desire. For some reason I can't remember an instance like ths but I can feel it. You have something that simply cannot be touched or it will be damaged and some snoop gies and wrecks it because they just had to know something about something. Annoying as hell. A complete lack of respect for the other person's feelings and it forces that person to gave to be vigilantly afraid of the other person's crazy tendencies.

I guess one way to treat it too is that there's a consequence that goes along with it. It's a type of offense that you'd be careful using against people. It should be treated with diligence, dutifully, and respect.

I checked the link after.... FDS..... SMH.... They're clearly crazy people. You'd think it would be obvious to everyone, those are the girls you never want to be around or let your pets, children or any helpless human around. Yet, it's like they still want to fuck them that's why they still care about whatever they're going off about. Freaking simps. I for one am happy that there's a type of fly trap for those type of insects. I make a strong effort to runaway and hide my pee pee away from crazy, those girls make it easy for me to spot them. Every crazy thing they say I'm sitting there with pop corn and gasoline watching the fires they've started on themselves waiting to throw in more fuel.

People are immoral and they will gladly justify their shitty behavior because in their own minds they are exceptions to the rule. Btw, I take things a step further and never leave my phones laying around and it's always locked with fingerprint. I also don't let women sleep over nor do I sleep over at their place- sorry sex is great and all but that doesn't entitle you to my personal space for a sleep over, nor am I interested in spending the night in a place that will definitely be about 5 degrees hot and smelling of cat piss.

I am strongly personally opposed because it's not only my privacy that's of concern, otherwise I wouldn't care.

My private conversations are private between myself and the other person. Unauthorized access to these is not simply an invasion of my privacy, but the third party's as well.

My phone is also necessary for various 2FA functions for work, etc. It needs to be secure.

I think snooping should carry a bigger penalty and should be made illegal across the board.

If this sub is advocating for it's member to commit a crime how in hell is it not banned? Where are the AgainstHateSubreddits people at to report this and at least get this post banned if they feel the entire subreddit isn't sexist enough to get flagged?
