It's tremendously profitable. I paid all the bills while my wife kept all of her income and directed it to her business. When we divorced she claimed her business was shut down (it isn't) and claimed 100% of the home equity, all of my life savings and approximately 40% of my current income in support payments that leaves out over $150,000 in legal fees between the two of us and we were never rich. She's also free to repartner and run the same scam all over again as the laws on material changes post divorce are quite weak (in Canada anyway)

women want the big, fairy tale wedding and perhaps settle for someone they shouldn’t have or just don’t understand what marriage takes beyond the wedding.
it is more profitable, as someone else mentioned, for women to get divorced. They have less to lose therefore are more willing to “pull the trigger” so to speak
women have been lied to and accepted the lie that we can have and do it all. They end up not happy and blame the easiest person to blame - their husband.
choosing divorce is considered brave and fighting the patriarchy (IMO) - that’s why single motherhood gets revered: “oh wow she’s so brave to leave that terrible guy”
anything that makes a woman unhappy (regardless of what she has done) is abuse. Your husband won’t clean? Oh he’s abusing you. Your husband expects sex? Oh that’s sexual abuse that’s even worse! Whereas whatever a woman does is considered empowerment (ie if she doesn’t want sex and says no that’s brave, if her husband doesn’t want sex he’s not meeting her needs). If a woman divorces for these reasons - she is brave and powerful.

These things are usually multifaceted. Unrealistic expectations set by film and TV (like it or not, the entertainment media you consume does shape your opinions and beliefs about many things in life) and social media constantly telling them that they’re queens or goddesses and that they should never settle for anything less than what they’re worth while telling them they’re beyond calculable value.

They’re told that they deserve the best of the best; hot as Channing Tatum and rich as Warren Buffet. They’re also indoctrinated to believe that such men exist in abundance.

They’re encouraged to focus on themselves; to center their lives around themselves.

And then reality hits.

They come to realize that nice abs don’t pay the bills. So they find an average guy with a decent job and rope him in. And then of course they don’t get “the tingles” from him as they did with the Chads of boyfriends’ past (and she’s probably exaggerating her experiences in her mind, hindsight bias and all that), and so they get bored. And then that boredom leads to frustration. “Why can’t he just work out more? Why can’t he be spontaneous? Chad McDouche would randomly show up at my house in the middle of the night and blow my back out, why won’t my husband that’s been working tons of overtime to pay our bills do that for me? Does he even appreciate what he has?! He got me! He won! He got the prize! So why is he not taking care of his prize?!”

Then there’s the circle of shitty friends. “Gurrl, you need to dump his ass! All he does is work! He’s making you do so much emotional labor, which is totally a real thing and just as valid as actual labor! You’re a queen, you deserve better!”

And then they start looking at what life would look like after a divorce. Well, as it turns out, at least in the US, it would look pretty good. She gets half of everything, she gets the kids, if there are any; great weapons for emotional abuse and manipulation later on. And, she can chase Chads and Tyrones again in the never-ending quest for tingles. As everything and everyone has told her for years, she can have it all.

Women almost always marry up, meaning that the husband is almost always richer.

The fact is it is a win-win for them. If it works, they get supported for life. If it doesn't, they get to grab a significant amount of money and stock, steal half of his retirement funds + get a house/apartment + be supported for life.

I think women are more sensitive to most of these issues. They put more importance to them.

If a woman beats her husband, he probably won't divorce her and might not even think too much about it, let alone tell others about what happened. If a couple does nothing together besides having occasional sex, and otherwise don't really talk to each other, never really spend time together, and argue fairly often, the man probably won't see this as a reason for divorce. The woman will.

To be honest, I think there’s a lot of information missing from this statistic. Infidelity is one of the primary reasons why divorces occur, as well as a lack of communication. On whose side? Who knows. Either way, I think women just expect more out of their partners than they originally calculate when they consider marriage. Maybe it’s also that women tend to have easier times getting in and out of relationships than men because they’re seen socially as sort these soft, kind beings that need to be protected (I’m speaking about men seeing them this way). So in that way, men will eat that shit up. They don’t have to work as hard to move into a new relationship as men do.

Just thoughts from a woman, and it’s definitely not applicable to everyone in every scenario, but it does seem to be a common occurrence.

I think a lot of people, men and women, get married due to societal pressure without realizing what it's all about. I would put myself in that boat. I was young and dumb at the time. When I got older I realized what marriage was all about and I wanted out.

I think women simply have more incentive to leave than men do. They have the financial incentive, they'll probably get custody of children if they want it, and they'll have an easier time in the dating world if they're even remotely attractive.

Men have to worry about losing a lot of money, losing the children, and entering a dating world where the average guy isn't going to get much action. I think a lot of guys stay in bad relationships because they think the alternative might be even worse. I would probably disagree with them in most cases, but I think that's their logic.

From what I understand, there are 2 mains things.

The idea that as soon as they get married their lives will magically change (with his effort alone, of course) to be a fairy tale. A lot of people here are saying for the money... But as a woman, I couldn't string someone along for an entire marriage and divorce for money. I know it happens with some sugar babies, and some women (and people generally) are horrible like that, but it's so fake and cruel that I can't imagine that's the reason for most of them.

I think it's more likely that women are just more eager to do the whole "marriage and children" thing sooner (we go infertile, have motherly instincts and feel the need to settle down quickly), but in the long run are more likely to be unhappy with the behaviour of the man. The thing about women expecting a man to change whereas a man doesn't expect that is definitely true for a lot of people.

Women are also fed the idea of having a "fairytale marriage" and all that. In boys' films, the main guy usually defeats the bad guy. In girls' films, the girl meets a guy, they defeat the bad guy together (or she's helpless and rescued by the guy) and in the end they get married. Think cinderella, snow white, sleeping beauty, tangled.... We're told that our "happy ever after" is finding a guy AND getting married!! Just to find that real life isn't like that.

It's because, IMO, 80% of women don't want a marriage and a family....they want a wedding ceremony and kids...

They push because they are up against time....the biological clock is always ticking. The older she gets the more "in a rush" she becomes and the more likely she is to settle for a sperm donor (rather than a husband, partner and teammate)...that she can get rid of later and vulture his assets.

I follow this sub to hear views from the other side since I am a woman, and I have found a lot of posts here informative, but all of these comments are incredibly sexist and disappointing.

Not a SINGLE comment states the idea that maybe, just maybe, a woman is filing for divorce because her husband is doing something wrong? Expecting her to be like his mom? Not pulling his weight? Everyone is saying money, princess complex, societal expectations…really?

Go read any subreddit involving women, parenting, marriage, etc and you will see countless posts about men checking out of marriages and fatherhood. Not saying it is always the man’s fault or even a majority of the time but let’s not pretend it’s some evil, stupid female conspiracy 100% of the time. Wow.

I live in the Philippines and we're the only country in the world besides the Vatican that doesn't allow divorce (unless you're Muslim). This is both good and bad depending on which side of the problematic marriage you're on.

Marriage is very financially profitable for women. Men are still likely to be breadwinners and take care of life's necessities during the marriage and then after divorce, courts are overwhelmingly likely to ensure that the man continues to support his ex-partner.

Why wouldn't they be pushing for this to continue?

Have no fault divorce simply let both parties leave with what they brought and watch those cases either evaporate or a massive spike in unsubstantiated abuse claims.

I think this post is sexist,not every woman pushes for a marriage and not every woman is the reason of a break up or a divorce, if it's true that 70-80% of divorces are by women it still disregards reasons such as cheating or loss of interest by either of the partners

And it's most women.....even divorcees. My girlfriend has a timeline...meaning she'll only wait so long. She's also aware that as a business owner I will have a very airtight prenuptial agreement. She's a good woman who has been married once and in another relationship, both to shitty men. But, yea....she's a marry me or I'll eventually leave gal. Most are. You stay single or get married with a prenup.

The more men realize these statistics, the better off they'll be:

50% of all divorce ends in marriage.
90% of all divorces initiated by women.
90% of all custody given to mothers.

What to do:
