I come across some really disturbing comments on reddit from time to time that really misunderstand how a woman's attraction works. I thought of starting a thread to clarify this in case it helps some one. Also I saw some comments about how women are not honest with what they like so I thought I ll try and simplify the complex process that is mate selection.

We can say there are two parts to a woman's decision to pursue a relation. First part is attraction / infatuation which is subconscious and governed by primal instinct aka lizard brain and then there is a sort of an evaluation which is conscious and governed by frontal lobe. Both work in tandem (unlike men) and women can switch between thinking from each angle with ease.

Triggers for infatuation: 1. Physical masculine marks - this includes everything that's a masculine marker I.e. differentiates men from women. It include wider jaw, short hair, height, deep voice, big hands, broad shoulders, muscles, agility, strength

  1. Behavioral masculine markers - Confidence, Physically active, Risk taking, leadership, intelligence, mental stability, protectiveness, ability to negotiate with other men, humor and charm

  2. Good DNA markers: Overall physically fitness, body mass percentage, body fat percentage, facial symmetry, muscles, lack of disease, no mouth breathing, body posture, body balance, alertness, energy levels

Mate evaluation - Now if a well functioning woman finds someone she is attracted to that doesn't mean she will go ahead with the relationship. There would now be a sort of cost benefit analysis in which the prime factors to judge the mating candidate would be:

  1. Money : would he be able to support a family?
  2. Pursuit : is he really into me? Will he go out of his way for what I want or am I a convenient option
  3. Personality : do we get along?
  4. Friendship : is he a friend?
  5. Emotional stability: Can he help me stabilize my mood during emotionally challenging times like pregnancy, PMSing and the general lows of life
  6. Conversation : Can I talk to him for the rest of my life?
  7. Compassion: does he care about those weaker than him?
  8. Fatherhood: can he be a good father? Does he care for kids?
  9. Kind heart: is he a man of honor or deceit?
  10. Love: does he love me or am I a passing phase?
  11. LTR: is he capable of holding a LTR?
  12. Maturity: is he mature enough to know what it take to start a family or is he still a kid
  13. Sex: Do we jam?
  14. Do I feel safe with him?
  15. Can he make me orgasm?
  16. Is he a good support system?
  17. Will association with him lift my social status?
  18. Can I learn something from him?
  19. Does he balance my weaknesses ?
  20. Does he respect other women?
  21. Is he sexist?
  22. With him does my life change for the better or worse?
  23. Do I like his friend circle?
  24. Is his upbringing, and attitude on life something that I agree with?
  25. Does he groom? Is he clean?
  26. Is he dependable?
  27. Does he have a positive outlook on life?
  28. Is he fun ?
  29. Does his past relationship history have any red flag?
  30. Does he have any red flags that I should be aware of?
  31. Are we in the same place in life?

As you can see it's a complex process. It just doesn't depend on one thing. Getting several of these right can be good enough. What matters is the whole package. Reducing this into simple ideologies might make you miserable.

E.g. Very Young Girls going after infatuation and not evaluating (Chad) is probably because they are still immature. Women going with Beta Bux just means that she trusted her frontal lobe over primal instinct. Which isn't always a bad thing.

Of course someone who fits every criteria is the best. Some of it is handed over to you simply because you are male. For the rest, groom yourself, be fit, and be a good person. This should be more than enough.
