One thing people don't seem to intuitively get is how different the same thing can look if you observe it at different levels of abstraction

So different that it can be contradictory. The safe example would be how at a high level of physics we see the arrow of time, entropy and irreversible causal events.

But at a lower level of abstraction the laws of physics are time reversible.

Another example that's more tricky is how we have "free will" or treat counter factuals as actually possible at our high level but on a low level such an idea would be incoherent. You only have true randomness or determinism.

Now some might argue that the lower the level of abstraction, the more fundamental. So the world is really "wave functions" or uncertainty is baked in.

But I'm not sure I agree. Your ontology matters. If you navigate reality as these large aggregates of molecules at this scale, then this scale of abstraction is exactly what is real to you. So depending on the use case you need to pick the right level of abstraction to treat as privileged.

Reductionism is when people blindly defer to the lowest levels and feel shitty.

Anyway the reason I bring this up is because all of this ties to the attraction between genders.

At the high level, people see and treat attraction as something subjective. They think they reject someone because of a large number of small inconsequential things, that's idiosyncratic to them. They don't admit to themselves that they might have judged the person lacking on any objective metric like status, looks, empathy, etc.

At this level, if you ask them, would you date this person if we changed these metrics. Most people would honestly say and believe it to be the truth that they wouldn't date them.

At this level, attraction is binary. It's like a kind of sexuality. You were never in the competiton.

But if you go lower in the ladder of abstraction you'd realise the inconsistency. You can't implement such a concept directly.

You will have a spectrum, there are people who you are attracted to more and less. People change and where you previously didn't feel it, now you do. Maybe they lost weight? Lmao

There are of course objective reasons why you didn't feel attraction. You just don't admit it to yourself because it's uncomfortable to see yourself judge a person like that. But we are built this way... To be critical about who gets to pass on our genes, humanity won't get very far if we were very liberal in that choice.

Anyway, the red pill is just pointing to the lower level of abstraction in most cases and screaming this is true! This is real?! You fuckers gaslit me.

And they have a point. But the blue pillers are operating at the correct level of abstraction. Most are doing so for the wrong reasons (culture, sheep etc) but the point remains. We can have different ways to fix the objective measures that make us unattractive instead of seeing this low level reality.

This is why we really need to teach philosophy and once ontology, abstractions and such frameworks are more common words you can really get a consensus on such thorny issues.

Imo respecting women and "treating them like normal human beings" is entirely dependent on seeing them as fundamentally different and respecting that.
