Sex for rent (or lower rent) schemes are huge now with the housing crisis. It's predatory af. I'm in the process of helping my friend leave a scrote and it's almost impossible to find a place in her price range without an exploitative ad. I live in Vancouver, one of the most expensive cities in the world and I feel sick to my stomach knowing there are possibly thousands of women being exploited to avoid homelessness in this city alone. There are hundreds of millions of women in this situation worldwide. It's already dire enough knowing that the housing crisis has trapped many women in violent relationships/marriages as a means of survival. With these disgusting roommate arrangements proliferating, many women are going from the frying pan into the fire.

These are absolutely atrocious. Many years ago, I answered an advertisement for my own apartment, it was NOT listed as a roommate situation, but was listed for women only.

I found out that the landlord's dog would be living with me, and I declined on that grounds, then he blurted out that he himself, the landlord, would also be living in the apartment and caring for the dog. I still get the creeps thinking about that situation. The dishonesty and creepiness was over the top.

We need to talk about this. Seriously.

Men are blissfully aware about how fucked up things are economically right now, especially with a pandemic on top of things, and are taking full advantage of this set up. They are targeting usually younger women who don't have a lot of money, savings, or a job that pays enough to get herself a modest studio apartment in a decent area. They know about the wage gap, they know that women suffered tremendously from covid-19 in that many had to leave their jobs to care for parents and/or children, they know that there are mentally ill or other vulnerable women who don't know where to find decent housing, and they're abusing it all.

An idea? We women need to REALLY start to become female exclusive when it comes to housing. I am aghast by all the women out there who gleefully want to share living space with men or both sexes. We should ONLY board with other women.

Look for shared housing or apartments with multiple women, a-la-golden-girls. It's the best way to deal with this crisis we're having right now. I would be thrilled to find a small group of professional working (or student) women who are passionate about women safety and personal happiness together and share the rent. I absolutely refuse to room with a man, no matter how bad things get. He can still beat me. He can still rape me. He can install hidden cameras in the bathroom or my bedroom. He can still kick me out when he finds another woman he likes better.

All those pictures disgust me. They want a woman who can take care of them, cook for them, clean up after them? They need to become husband-material and have the money and hygiene and a nice house to be able to financially care for her as well as any children they can decide to have, after he marries her, of course. Fuck off with all of that if there is no money and a ring/paperwork on the table.
