Now I do see the distinction. With all these scenarios there is a clear and present implication that these men can do something to make someone's life or livelihood worse. What you really should be saying is “there’s no reason prostitution should be legal at this point”. Why? First, what is it about sex that makes it so special that it becomes the centre point of everything. You talk about relationships and marriages and what makes a person attractive and the main thing people worry about it sex. Yeah he’s nice and caring but will he be good in bed? Yeah she cooks and cleans and does things for you without complain, but will it be worth it having sex with her since she’s “curvy/chubby?” When it comes to people who want to get into a relationship, even though a person will love the person unconditionally, do things for the other, treat him/her right, be there for emotional support etc, if the sex isn’t good then the whole relationship is meaningless for them.

Next, what is it with this generation that they want women to be so objectified? What happened where women wanted to get a job doing paperwork at a company or crunch numbers at the bank or operate on a patient etc? Women wanted to be more than housewives who get pregnant, give birth, raise kids, clean and make a hot meal for a man when he returns home from work. Legalising prostitution makes no difference at all if all they’re doing is just getting penetrated for money. We went from women wanting to show that they too have skills which they can put to use and get paid for it, to now having women with no skills acting entitled and wanting money for luxury.

Women themselves even talk about how they don’t want to be objectified, how they don’t want to be looked as sex objects. They talk about how they want to be treated equally with men, the whole women empowerment and equality things. How exactly is it women empowerment when they have no shame of what they do? Before women would change behind closed doors with complete privacy, but now they’re wearing bikinis that doesn’t even cover their behinds and get wedged inside their butt cheeks.

Does it ever occur to anyone the long term issues that arise from this? You make prostitution acceptable, well look at New Zealand. There’s a cost of living crisis, houses are being unaffordable, and everyone is complaining about it except the prostitutes themselves. Women having sex with random men, can’t deny that this becomes a health concern. These prostitutes have no credibility. They cover their faces and keep a low profile and don’t make it known what they do, and they will be the first do scam you and try ruin your life. They’re worse than those Indian scammers.

They spermjack you and now you have to deal with legal cases. She makes false accusations against you and you try spend time trying to prove your innocence and then you wonder if that hour spent with her was worth it or not. The whole thing about consent. You have sex with a prostitute because she gave you consent but if she didn’t give you consent to kiss her and you do that, then good luck with time spent in court. Not just that, when it comes to consent, a man can just go and assault her sexually and then later say it was consensual, and that doesn’t constitute rape. Will it be worth it for the prostitute to go through that? To have one come in and rape and assault them physically and later say it was bondage and kinks and all consensual etc?

The whole thing should be illegal for many reasons. Just because people go out and have one drink or two and then climb in bed with each other after an hour doesn’t mean that it should be legal. It’s kinda like saying that guns should be made legal so that there can’t be gun violence when in reality it’s just encouraging gun violence by making it easily accessible.

But while I think decriminalising is good, legalising is a bit iffy and can cause more issues.

Its becuase feminists are split on the issue and can't unite on whether they want to support it or not. Most conservatives are against it, or at least state so publically.

Women would lose a lot of leverage they hold in the sexual marketplace if they made sex more accessible through prostitution. So it does not benefit them, though some feminists think it is liberating for women to do whatever they want with their bodies. Yet, some feminists realize that prostitution only leads to eventual regret and brokeness, so they are strongly against it. I personally agree with that perspective, but it is not logically consistent with the philosophy on the left. Afterall, many feminists preach "my body, my choice" yet when it comes to prostitution they try to control other women's bodies. Funny how that works!

Prostitution should be legal, though not for the reasons you stated here.

1) Like drugs, the demand exists regardless of the law. Making it illegal does not decrease the demand or the supply of the service. Since it doesn't act as a deterrent, making it illegal really doesn't accomplish any social good, it is simply vacuous deleterious virtue signaling.

2) By making it illegal, you simply create a black market, and a criminal industry, based around it. This causes a lot of correlatory social ills.

3) You normalize criminal behavior among people that would otherwise not be criminals as well. This effectively trains people to see laws as less rigid and therefor more easily dismissed, increasing overall crime.

4) If you legalize it, you can regulate it. This will act to decrease human trafficking, coercion, and other harmful methods used to push women into sex work. You can also help to regulate their health, mitigating the risk of spreading communicable diseases.

5) The sex work industry is huge. If they collected taxes on prostitution, we'd increase public revenue by about 2%.

To me, legalization is a no brainer. There's only benefits to legalizing it, while it's clearly deleterious to make it illegal.

Women want to have control over the selection process whenever it comes to sex. They need the law to be behind them so they can enforce this, just like marriage and divorces. So they will claim human trafficking when its clearly not (many decide to do on their own) as a clause for any legality. A prime example is when police set up entrapment stings to catch paying men, but rarely will they have any of those same entrapment stings when it comes to arresting the "working" girls (when they do this its because they are trying to meet a quota and this is one of the low hanging fruits they grasp for).

Ok, as someone who has a decent to high body count, has engaged the services of sex works, and has had multiple short and long term relationships. I’m tired of this argument, and it’s becoming more clear that the notion of replacing female intimacy, with escorts is just ludicrous. OP have you ever actually been with a sex worker before? TLDR: relationships with women (romantic or platonic) cannot be replaced, with male friends, sex workers, or ONS. You don’t need them, but they’re their own thing with varying value.

I'm American as well and having lived in other countries, America is suffocating to live in regarding sex and dating. I think your point is very valid, except we live in a society where people love seeing human trafficking instead of legalizing and protecting those who want to work in this industry.

Notice one thing about those in this thread against your comment is that their comments are completely based on emotions and not logic. They also have no good reasons to be against it. Little did they know, it's way more dangerous when it's unregulated, as we can see right now with the human trafficking cases.

If a woman or male wants to offer these services at their discretion, then why not? Legalizing it would protect them and protect customers. These statistics can be found in the Netherlands, Germany, Mexico...ect.

Also, prostitution was totally acceptable and legal coming back a few centuries.

I can only speak for the US, but prostitution is mainly illegal at the state level and is typically a misdemeanor.

It also wasn’t always illegal. Politicians, police, and moralists began cracking down on it in the 19th century over concerns about the spread of venereal disease and about young white women in particular being taken off the marriage market, so to speak.

The only reasons I can see is that there are some pre-teens and teenagers who are more developed and taller and stronger than I will ever be at any point of my adult life while there are other women who are smaller and more frail than I am. I would only worry about the exploitation of minors and the mentally ill under the guise of labeling them as consenting adults. I think that certain establishments that provide physical and legal protection for sex workers should be legal.

My only objection is when it crosses the line into becoming a public nuisance, i.e., streetwalkers openly soliciting customers, performing sex acts in public spaces or simulating sex acts in window displays. I suppose zoning and other ordinances could alleviate most of the problems.
