I want to agree with you on the equal part anyways. I personally think men know women are superior which is why they constantly have to claim it themselves, like an insecure child trying to soothe himself.

If the RP taught me anything it’s that men are the more “disposable” gender so not sure how they can also be “superior”. Ultimately we need men less for survival and in the game of life nothing really matters but that. Men are strong because they need to compete, but women? We pick the winners.

I think it’s important to distinguish between categorical equality and equality under the law. Obviously, human beings are not all equally strong, equally intelligent, or equally virtuous. However, it’s important that everyone, regardless of his station or lot in life, be afforded equal treatment of the law and enjoy equal moral consideration.

If, for example, men are demonstrated to be inherently inferior at caring for others, this should not be used as a warrant to limit any individual man in his ambition to be a nurse. Everyone should be allowed the opportunity succeed, or fail, according to their own merits.

I do presume you are trolling, but this is a generally point I find interesting.

This would largely depend on the kind of equality, especially since most things that men are naturally better at women than (grip strength, aggression/emotional outburst, physical threat interests, threat to its own species, burst strength), most other animals of a similar mass are way better than men at.

Most of the things that women are naturally better than men at (social skills, pattern recognition, fine finger skills, mammalian bipedal balance and movement, childcare and teaching, longevity) most other animals in general are way worse at.

Most other traits that women historically have been worse that have had nothing to do with nature: Women generally do more work and responsibility in most cultures, but men's roles are given more respect and can earn them more money regardless of the role's overall use. Likewise, women have been restricted from education by men specifically, and women are no more or less emotional than men- hell, testosterone is explicitly an emotional hormone. There is a reason roided athletes are stereotyped to be crazy. The idea that women are more emotional is just straight-up myth.

But in general, if we valued the natural traits that make men superior, we'd have to consider humans an inferior race to hundreds of other species.

Because the papers I've read on this subject have found minor differences but I'm not convinced they're really large enough to have much impact outside of men or women being more likely to pick certain career paths

Well it depends on what you define as equal. I think they should be equal in terms of respect in society, bodily autonomy and ability to foster a career. Beyond that though it is unreasonable to say that there are no distinct differences. There definitely are and they allow for us to hold unique roles, in some cases different from one another, in society.

I think they can have legal equality, but not natural equality, if that makes sense. For example, in a lot of media these days you see very small women taking on huge guys in fights and defeating them all without a scratch. Yeah... that'd never happen. That's not say that there aren't bigger, stronger women out there who can't hold their own, but men as a sex are way stronger physically than women. I think pretending that's not true actually puts women at risk. I've looked at the physical strength data of men vs. women, and, on average, the bottom 5% of males are as strong or stronger than the top 5% of females across almost all metrics.

When Mao tookover China as part of the communist revolution, he made the sexes completely equal. Even pregnant women had to go dig ditches and do all the jobs that men did -- backbreaking labour. There were no sanitary products for women because "women were just like men." Women got sick and died way more quickly than the men because they were trying to perform tasks that were wildly unsuitable to their stature.

However, there are different ways to be strong, and women have other natural strengths that men don't have. Women, as a cohort, tend to be better communicators, better at team work, better at empathy and emotional intelligence, and better at group dynamics. This is why, traditionally, they ruled the domestic/family realm of life. They kept the family unit together.

Just a disclaimer... I'm only talking statistics and psychological trends here. Obviously there are going to be outliers who don't conform to these.

The ironic thing is that now, in China, they are doing the total opposite of the what the western world is doing. In the western world, Marxists are now trying to erase gender. In China, they are re-asserting the gender binary because decades of communism tried to erase it. So women try to look more girly and men try to look more manly. It's interesting.

I think what really needs to end is sexist superiority complexes. Just because men are physically stronger does not mean they are "better." Women have a lot of natural advantages too. Men and women fighting over which is better is like trying to cut off the nose to spite the face. We need both, both are not naturally equal, and both are important -- how hard is it to understand that?

You’re mistaking equality from an opportunity/societal treatment pov to being the literal same.

Most people, regardless of gender or ideological orientation, know that men and women are different - that being said, i believe that when entirely left on our own devices, most people will side with their strengths, whether it’s a minority fit or whether you’re an outlier.

The point is we have to give people the freedom to choose their own path, and we shouldn’t enforce these differences or use them to look down at others (which this post frankly rides too close to doing).

There is a weird concept going on here that rides on superiority, which…. isn’t true, we’re different, that’s a fact, but we all have our own strengths and we’re all better off embracing the value we provide for each other than this weird posturing

I would argue that raising and caring for a child is one of the biggest responsibilities a person could take on. And that it is a role that generally tends to be taken by women.

I am not saying that it should be. I think there should be longer paternity leaves. My point is that men are not inherently more accepting of pressure and responsibility and better at handling it. Men are just generally more accepting of responsibilities that a patriarchal society deems as more valuable. They are less accepting and of responsibilities that are seen as feminine and therefore less valuable by society.

From what I understand (there could be data that suggests otherwise I am open to changing my view) the rise in women taking on the responsibility of working and contributing to the household income has not lead to a proportional rise in men taking up responsibilities of caregiving and housework.

The amount of marriages in opposite sex couples where both parters contribute equally to household income has almost tripled since 1972. Yet women in these relationships still on average spend 40% more time than men on caregiving and more than double the amount of time on housework. This is from a Pew research study I can link if anyone is interested.

Women are taking up more responsibility in working, yet men are not taking up more responsibility in housework and caregiving at the same rate to account for this.

I disagree with your statement, though this might be because we have different opinions on what constitutes ‘responsibility’.

Physically I agree men often will have an edge. But as leaders I disagree. There have been and continue to be horrendous male leaders. I don't even understand how you can make such a claim with a strait face. List the 10 worst ideas you have ever heard. The majority probably were championed by men. There are some studies that show that female police officers are less likely to have situations escalate than male police officers. Anecdotally, I've had male and female bosses and teachers, and it's 50-50 as to who will be competent or not.

Why? Partly because the male tends to act out more when faced with ego challenges. Women are just as egotistical, but , perhaps because of socialization or perhaps because they lack physical strength, they tend to deal with it in different ways rather than just reacting.

No two different things can be completely equal in every dimension. So it's more a matter of getting into the weeds on the specifics. In a conceptual sense, I view the moral value of men and women as equal. Society should prioritize their true happiness (whatever that means) equally. Beyond that, we can talk.
