I think people are far too caught up on the idea of a "type" when it comes to men's tastes.

The studies are very clear on this. The average man finds the average woman to be attractive. In the end, that's the only prerequisite for a guy to be willing to initiate an attempt to foster a long-term relationship.

How the woman fairs beyond that depends on everything else not ascribed to looks. And even then, it mostly derives from whether or not he thinks she will bring him peace or a headache.

Most of us don't get the privilege of having a type, if a woman likes us that's enough incentive to consider her.

Yes there are certain traits I consider more attractive and would prefer overall, but if a woman shows interest in me and is at least a 4 in my eyes I'm not gonna start bitching about types, just her showing interest might be enough for me to see her as pretty.

The total number of women that have liked me in the past 22 years has been 2, both decently attractive, none really had traits that corresponded to the aforementioned.

I have a type, but I also just generally like women so when presented with women I can generally find something to like about them.

I am gynosexual in this way.

There are things that make women stand out more, seem more compatible, more interesting. But most of what works against women isn't seen, it's experienced and heard. That's not to say that every woman is attractive to me in a wholistic way, they're not and I actively choose not to attempt engaging with most of them romantically. But it takes a lot for a woman to just be repulsive to me.

The worst most would ever get from me is a No, but thank you.

When I was younger I definitely had quite a narrow view of what I considered attractive. My first celebrity crush was Angelina Jolie in Tomb Raider for crying out loud, that's about as traditional as you can get.

As I got older my horizons most definitely broadened out from there. But dark haired, pale skinned women with striking eyes are definitely my weakness.

My experience has been that men definitely have preferences like thin/thick, blonde/brunette, tits/ass, etc. Personality wise, some crave that alt manic pixie dream girl while others are cool with the girl next door or the shy librarian vibe.

I would say most men and women have types ime. The question is whether they conciously recognize it. It's the kind of pattern that people close to you will often notice before you do.

I didn't realize I had a thing for nerdy somewhat feminine brunettes who work or want to work in education until someone pointed it out to me.

No, most men do not have a type. Usually what happens is that over time you develop and affinity for the type of women who like you the most and treat you the best. That's just fact.

About 1 in 4 guys who earn more than $150,000 a year in my area have married women from east asia. Why? Because these guys are tech nerds and they learned early on that women in the US despise intelligence and the traits that come with it. You see these guys are crazy about women from cultures that value intellect. They don't even care how these women look many times. By the time the local girls decide they want a guy with that money, and are willing to put up with a sweaty nerd... it's too late. Lots of pissed off lesbians in my tech hub city.

People have preferences. You put a darkly handsome, British guy in a cloak (Alan Rickman) and you will get by wife's attention. You hand Rachel Weisz from the Mummy a pair of eyeglasses to wear and I will notice. But that just covers the superficial. I remember a meme where a woman joked that she was better looking than her exe's new girl. Someone comment that he must have learned, due to her, that some things matter more than looks in a relationship.

I think having a type covers a lot of ground. Sometimes a type is more a personality than a look; it could likely even be a pheromone. These things cut across traditional racial lines and body types.

the average man's type is average and above women, we all have some specific traits(big ass , small tits or dakr hair....)we would be prefer but a tiny % of us would date solely the women who fit their preference

the average woman's type is chad they all have a specific version of chad that they would prefer (thug, feminine, blonde...) but in the end they will accept any chad who comes their way and attribute their choice to a type when in reality they are (almost) all attracted to the baseline chad features (sharp jawline, tall, hunter eyes, full head of hair, straight white teeth,..)

I definitely have a type, to the point that there are women who are widely considered attractive I would not sleep with given the opportunity. I do think my preferences are more strict than most men’s, but I’m not alone in that either. Personality can also be a deal breaker, if a woman is good looking but I don’t like her, I’m not willing to spend time with her.

Unfortunately men in general are not only very lonely and invisible, they also have lack of self control over sex, maybe related to the 2 first symptoms, maybe not. When you are starving you dont care much what is inside the sandwich.

Theres studies showing 63% of men under 30 in 2023 are single without sex, when you compare to woman’s is almost half of that.

I think guys can have types. Met a gym rat white dude who was into Latinas. At a mixer I asked if he wanted to talk to some white girls and he said he was more into the "caramel". It comes from the kind of women who are into you which is why there's so many white men who date tons of Asian women.

I think the issue with this question is men and women don’t seem to use type in the same way.

Women seem to treat the word “type” as meaning “the kind of people I find attractive”. That’s a very female way of looking at it as women are generally more selective when looking at the sex they’re attracted to.

Men use the word more to refer to “a specific kind of person I find attractive”, but it isn’t an essential requirement for the man to find someone attractive. A man’s type is more like “if I could build a partner in a character builder, how would I do it?” type of arrangement.

This is why women seem confused by the idea of men dating women “not their type” thinking it means that the man isn’t attracted to them “properly” or is “settling” which isn’t true.

Just because my favourite hypothetical meal in the whole wide world is meal X, it doesn’t mean I can’t actively seek out meal Y, enjoy meal Y fully and actually want more of meal Y.

I think men find most women attractive but I also think every man has a type, and if he could, would rather have a woman with those attributes over a woman of the same looks rating without them- if he had the option of pulling either of them.

That’s why men tend to care less about type- they can’t always pull what type of woman they may prefer.

I think a lot of men don't feel they have a type or think a type has to be only one thing (like they all need to look the exact same or have the same colouring or something), but usually when you look at who they've been into from a looks or personality perspective they have a lot in common. The answer to the question, "What do you find attractive?" is your type, and most men can answer that no problem. Men often like to paint themselves as having no standards, I think because they like to feel that they're giving everyone a "chance" (by just...thinking about them I guess) and are justified in complaining about how women who are their type aren't doing that for them.
