I’m solo travelling in Croatia right now and just had this epiphany of how vastly different the “solo travel” experience is for average looking men and women in their 20s/30s.

A woman will go to a hostel, maybe a female only room, and instantly form connections with the other women in her room “omg travel besties” and essentially get adopted into the group. She’ll go out with them sightseeing, partying, having fun and probably hooking up with a well above average local man from a club or dating apps.

A man will most likely avoid the hostel, or if he does go he’ll just have a few awkward conversations and no one will want to hang out with him (he’s just another single guy after all), he’ll spend the entire trip by himself taking in the sights, if he does go to a club no women will speak to him, no men will either beyond basic conversation. Zero matches on dating apps.

Post trip, the woman will go on about how “amazing, life changing and empowering it was” and giggle with her friends about her "experiences" with local men, whereas the man will feel sad about not having anyone to share his experience with while on the trip.

EDIT: I'm only talking about solo travel in Europe.
