I use to think obsessing over a woman's age/fertility is something only bitter men do, but then I had guys friends do the same thing. These guys were sharing a collage of bumble profiles of women ranging from 28 to 46 stating they still wanted kids and my friends acting like "it's too late for them now. They're delusional". I realize this mentality is due to a lack of exposure to career women who sacrificed their "prime fertile years". Well, half my family is filled with those types of women. All but two of those career women had children.

What typically happens is getting IVF, other fertility treatments, and being constantly monitored for risks. I have a cousin that had two healthy daughters at 36 and 38. I have a relative who had 3 kids in her 30s (during the 70s): 30, 33, and 36. Keep in mind, we now have surrogacy, so even if a woman can't physically carry a baby, they can just have someone else do it.

"But what about birth defects?"

From what I can gather, the increase of defects is massive COMPARED to younger women (except teenagers), but the overall risk of defects is still pretty low.

Even with 40 year olds having the highest risk of Down syndrome babies, I'm only seeing a 1% chance.

Even if they have a child with defects, it's still better to have an older mother with the knowledge and resources to accommodate these defects than have a 20 year old who can't provide such things. Please remember, 20 year olds can have children with defects too.

The other flaw in the obsession with prime years and fertility, is that the men obsessing over those things are also obsess over single motherhood. They don't seem to realize that most of those single moms were teenagers and young adults in committed relationships with deadbeat men. Also, younger mothers are more likely to be in poverty and less likely have completed high school (and/or never went to college).

People who think young women should just be married mothers have not recognized the social and economic problems of doing that. It hardly benefits the woman or the child.

It shocks me that so many men don't understand that women aren't eggless at 30. On that bumble pic (I can't show it because it had women's faces and names), of the 63 women mocked, 16 of them under 30 (one being 24) and 5 of them were early 30s. A total of 21 of them still eligible to have healthy children.

Now, if an older woman put off motherhood for a career AND she's broke, then she's insane.
