I can totally see this. I am straight but have gay friends and and an interesting experience my first time at a gay (predominantly male) leather bar. Basically I didn’t know what to expect and was somewhat apprehensive.

When I walked in guys were smiling and friendly (not hitting on my just genuinely friendly). They had a bunch of TVs and they were all on sports. Most were pounding back beers. The dance floor had a bunch of dudes going wild with no shirts on.

The vibe I got was it was just dudes being dudes, but I’m another level. They were free to be themselves and as masculine as they wanted to be without judgment. I was honestly a bit jealous.

These was nothing feminine about it. You don’t see this side of gay culture very much on network tv.

Emotionally the relationships feel one-sided. And if I try open up I resentment for it.

Your points aren't true for everyone though. My husband and I both paid for our dates, it wasn't a big deal. We both were students with a shortage of money and we both were interested in seeing each other. We both share our worries and emotions, I don't expect him to hold everything in. We work as a team, we have common plans and we both should make efforts to achieve them.

Attitude to sex is different, yes. It would be a bit easier if there wasn't a long history of slutshaming, but we have what we have. For many women the possible pleasure just doesn't outweigh the risks of casual sex.

Try dating a women, you got to bribe her on a first date by paying for her time. Nope in the gay world, we split that shit quick. He is not going to pretend that his time is more valuable.

Not in my experience. I see it more consistently from people my age but dates tend to be more even regardless of gender dynamics. The usual rationale is the person who is the one asking out the other pays, and all dates after that are more by the ear, but even then it's not a hard and fast rule. Going dutch is how most of my friends do dates and usually my guy friends are more adamant about paying, they're usually the more conservative ones and they say they actually prefer/enjoy it that way.

Talk to a guy about online dating, he is all about getting to the point to see if we have chemistry. Not with woman, jump through this hoop, now jump through that hoop, just to get a chance to see if we have chemistry.

Half-true, if it's about sex than yeah straight to the point is pretty much how it goes, no shame in that either, as someone that likes sex and doesn't want to be a relationship it's actually refreshing to just kinda be direct about it and figure out if you actually want to sleep together. But when it comes to relationships some gay/bu men tend to jerk around at the beginning.

This just sounds like an exaggerated statement. Some validity to this but to the inverse, and that's probably just from personal experience. I've mentioned in another thread that most of my relationships with women felt like I was being smothered and mothered, I didn't feel like an equal I felt like a tag along, and while it seemed good intentioned it wasn't always enjoyed. I'm a fully capable and independent adult that wants a partner not a parent. With men I did feel more like an equal during the relationship.

(However, another poster in the thread mentioned that some women fall into habits like that because they're so used to seeing that dynamic growing up and being in relationships where their partner isn't doing their fair share. I can definitely understand that, so that's not an inherent fault against women more so just some problems arising from gender stereotypes and traditional gender roles.)

This just seems like a personal thing. If I'm dating or in a relationship with someone I should be comfortable enough with that person to share and express emotions regardless of gender. I should also have the capacity and willingness to empathize with my partner. If that's not happening either you're a bad partner or you have bad partners or both.

This isn't to say I haven't seen relationships where sometimes women treat their partners like emotional sponges without recognizing and understanding their emotions. Likewise men sometimes don't understand and validate the emotions of their partners and sometimes won't try to express or communicate their emotions. I chalk both up to just being a bad partner.

This one I also don't get. Why do you have to constantly prove yourself to your partner, is that something you have to do, or something you think you have to do. In my relationships with men and women I don't feel like I need to "prove" myself, we're two people who like each other and are trying to have a good time together there really shouldn't be anything I have to prove. If I was in a relationship with a person that constantly needed me to prove myself I'd just leave.

I feel like there's a big cultural meme that dating and relationships would be so much easier and better if you were attracted to the same gender. Aside from how myopic that is (especially when you consider hardships you can face just from being in a gay relationship), it's just patently false. Gay relationships aren't inherently better than straight ones, they can be just as challenging and unfulfilling. Some relationships are just better than others, either because the partners are more compatible or because you put more work into them when you aren't, that's true for all relationships.

I don't think it's as one sided as you say it is, but according to gay and bi dudes I know, dating men seem far more easier and straight forward than dating girls. It's also far more egalitarian than most heterosexual relationships, and men are far more likely to be emotionally vulnerable to each other. There's less pressure on men to pigeonhole themselves to one gender role or to constantly perform to maintain respect and sexual access. I think it's why bi men are partly seen as undateable to a lot of straight women. They know they've experienced the other side and won't tolerate a lot of the bullshit the average man must endure to get a whiff of pussy. But I think if you're a bi dude who likes courting and chasing women, and dealing with the neuroticism of the average women and constantly proving your masculinity because it makes you feel like a big man to treat someone like a dependent, and you seek validation from it, not to mention enjoy some form of monogamy, you'll probably be a disappointed by most men. OK - I think you nailed down the data but have the wrong conclusion. Everything you said is true but it doesn't have anything to do with gender (at least not in a blackwhite way that you put it.)

Try an experiment: go on a tinder date with a girl that is below your standards. You'll realize that the real question is not gender but who in the couple has the power.

If i'm on a date with a girl that i'm too good for (happens on tinder with bad pics unfortunately.) I'm immediately instinctively the 'woman' and she's the 'man'. I find myself yawning, making zero effort in the conversation, splitting the bill as if it were unthinkable that I would pay, treating her like my personal psychiatrist (once i flat out asked her about advice on how to win this other girl over) having her listen to all my emotions, giving almost zero interest when she tries to 'share back'. And at the end of the date after taking everything and giving nothing back - she's still good to go home with me.

Disclaimer:Don't get me wrong - I'm just like everybody else. When i'm in the weaker position - it takes every bone in my body to not kneel before the pedestal of the perfect girl i have in front of me, hoping that if i contribute enough value to her life she'll 'choose me'. It's a hard trap we all fall into as the weaker player - we think if we just worship the powerful partner enough we can convince them to give us what we want. But it's the worst thing you can do for yourself and only works out in very few specific situations.

Let’s just agree that men and women are fundamentally different and actual effort must be put in for any sort of relationship longer than the amount of time it takes to have sex.

I’m sure if men and women could both procreate separately, they would, as guys tend to get along better with other guys in the long-term, and women seem to typically be more fluid on the whatever-its-called scale (the one that measures heterosexual vs homosexual inclination).

I don’t personally think that men’s and women’s values are supposed to line up because we have evolved differently due to different adaptive issues relating to our biological differences.

Monogamy is used more as a strategy for maintaining a species than it is a hard and fast rule that is unchangeable and permanently programmed into a species. Species need to be flexible and able to adapt to stressors places on them by the environment. Otherwise they might go extinct at some point for failing to evolve/change.

That being said, I think we’re far beyond the need for maintenance. We’ve reached a point where some people are not going to reproduce, or where people will start outright killing their children (via abortion) because the ability to enjoy life has become sparse. Other animals are known to kill their offspring in harsh environments where stress is placed on the parents.

I think most people are struggling to grasp the concept of this and are simply not willing to accept that they won’t/might not be able to enjoy life to the extent that they want to (i.e., having casual sex or even finding a decent-paying job).

But seriously - what you describe there is the paralel between tops and bottom while dating. The things you feel and enjoy with a man, is what women feel and enjoy with a man. Date as a top and you will find the type of effort to make it work and spark the chemistry like you find with women.

The amount of effort that it takes to get the ball rolling with a dude is just smaller, and the amount of effort and energy they push back with is just greater. Yup this is exactly how I view Gay men relationships from the outside. When I project and empathise this is how my mind projects it would be like to be homo. I agree with the top comments. I've been in 4 serious relationships with women, longest being 7 years, current almost three. I have improved myself immensely thanks to the unforgiving pressures I've subjected myself to by attempting to maintain those relationships, especially the current one, so I do not regret my time spent with the women I have. However, I often wonder what the incentive will be to continue my LTR aside from further family building/more kids (I already have two). I've shared some of the most deep, profound experiences with my current gf. Our chemistry is something I have never experienced before. Her love for me is immense, as well as mine for her, and yet, the drawbacks are absolutely glaring, which are so massively exasperated by the current gynocentric paradigm. On one hand, I would not be as strong as I am currently am without enduring the selective pressures that men who date women have been increasingly subjected to, but on the other hand, the process has extracted from me far more time and energy than would otherwise be necessary in a healthy patriarchal society. Resentment must be discarded to live a happy life in spite of whatever circumstances we are born in, but ultimately the cost/reward analysis of a heterosexual relationship has come full-circle for me...it remains fluid.

It sounds to me like you go after the wrong type of women. Being a lesbian myself I’ve never encountered that. I know a couple of straight guy friends who gfs aren’t like that either. I think maybe you need to evaluate what kind of women you go after, or allow to use up some of your time. Here is the thing with women, if you want it to be just as easy and straightforward as with men, you have to step over a certain threshold.

She needs to be "dominated" in order to want to come forward instead of running away so you would chase her.

You need to earn her respect, because she doesn't have that respect for avarege men. But once you have demonstrated that you are no avarege chump, and you can verbally sexually dominate her, she happily melts for you.
