Had a thought I'll have to flesh out a bit more later but it seems to me that the male propensity for providing comfort and security has been coopted. Providing for and protecting children, pregnant women, and women with young children makes a guy feel useful and important. It's the validation guys crave. And it makes evolutionary sense.

Seems like many women have learned to tap into this propensity without having to go through all the mess and fuss of actually baring kids for the guy. Women are diverting effort and resources evolution earmarked for the next generation toward themselves.

In my experience, women don't just have an easier time romantically and sexually, they also have an easier time socially. In any social situation, I have never seen any female loners. There is always someone who wants to talk to them, whether that be another woman or a man.

Men go up and talk to women who are on their own in social situations. Reverse the genders and this almost never happens. Men have to be entirely proactive in all social situations and always have to prove themselves.
