This is how I see this:

Men in these types of situations often complain about a woman’s desire for sex with him dropping off and I wonder in what ways his desired behaviour towards her has dropped off from her point of view? In my view, men’s sex drive is higher than women’s - not at all that women love orgasms any less, simply our drive to seek out sex and have sex is not as strong. We don’t generally feel as bereft without it and don’t associate it as strongly with a demonstration of love and affection as men tend to. There are many ways a man can demonstrate to a woman that he loves her and she is a priority in his life - but men tend to primarily view sex as how a woman shows he is a priority in her life and she loves him. It can put women in a difficult position because sex is often not something women can enjoy when they’re stressed or unhappy and then a pressure can build up to be sexual for a man’s sake when they don’t want to and it becomes a negative in her mind…

Anyway, everyone settles to some degree in an LTR - gets a bit comfortable and starts to take some things for granted or pull back on efforts they used to make for their partner. But many let it slide too far (both men and women are guilty).

Lots of men start off writing romantic and sexy notes to their partner, doing spontaneous things (small gifts, activities/nights out, etc), being affectionate and flirty and simply seeming attentive towards her and interested in her thoughts and feelings. Over time, the little spontaneous things often fall away, the attentiveness gets less and less and the affection might come only when he wants sex and otherwise he seems kind of distant and non-romantic. All of that is a man letting his “side of the deal” down but still expecting the same sexual enthusiasm from a woman who now doesn’t feel her partner is as interested in her happiness as he used to be. Now it seems like sex is his only goal and perhaps all that attentiveness and consideration to her feelings and individual needs was not very genuine. This is especially true if he nags her for sex or begs or tries to guilt her into it - it’s just going to make it seem like he doesn’t care about how she feels.

It really does go both ways. Women starting to pull away from sex makes men feel rejected and unloved - and like perhaps she never cared about sex in the first place and just did it long enough to “trap” him before showing her true low libido. Both sides can ascribe this sort of disingenuousness to one another - that men only pretend to like a woman and want to spend non-sexual time with her so that they can have sex. And that women only pretend to like sex so they can get a man’s committed labour and resources.

It’s a rather unfair view as I think most of the time both have simply settled too much and as a consequence started to feel less desire from one another and subsequently less incentive to keep up “their side” and make the effort to engage in activities that make the other happier. Women don’t tend to want sex quite as often as a man or prioritise it as much and men don’t tend to prioritise companionship or want to spend as much non-sexual time together. It’s never going to be symmetrical - some compromise is needed and some “settling” is inevitable from the beginning where both will be going all out to be as pleasing to their partner as possible. It’s never going to last at that intensity forever.

Also, if the sex is really good, women don’t just stop wanting it all together. Most women enjoy good sex and like having orgasms - but we don’t crave mediocre sex or “duty sex”. Men, it seems to me, will take “mediocre” or even “bad” sex over no sex. Women won’t.

I only had that issue with one relationship, my 16 year marriage where we had an amazing sex life for 6 years pre kids, then pretty good for the next 5 years with one kid… then after the second kid, life stress and and just general incompatibility it turned into a dead bedroom. Ok look, you’re confusing a high libido with an inability to control yourself. Women have to be more selective about who we sleep with. It’s safer, more practical, and less likely to put us in an unsatisfactory situation.

If you’re in a committed relationship and she’s losing interest (not just one woman, every woman you date) it’s a you problem. If it was one woman and it was a really longterm relationship in which you lived together, there could be a different cause.

Weird if this is not the case but it sure looks like it looking at the replies but.. Ha I mean it’s always the man that’s bad at sex and not the woman that’s bad at communicating her needs. I have the same experience as OP.

Dumped my ex gf because of it, she just accepted to have sex but didn't have that intrinsic desire to have sex.

I asked her multiple times if I was doing something wrong and she always answered no there is no problem, she never complained about anything sex related. But it always seemed to be a chore/duty for her.

It was the same with the majority of other women I've dated.

And with lesbian sex you remove a lot of the reasons straight women don’t hook up (fear of pregnancy, piv is riskier for std transmission, fear of assault as most men are physically stronger than most women etc)

I think the answer is simple. Generally, men are fertile every day while women are fertile maybe 1-3 days a month. Therefore, women’s bodies don’t tend to feel a strong desire to pursue sex outside of that short time frame. It’s even worse if the woman is taking hormonal birth control.

How many female animals do you see wanting to have sex when they’re not in heat? It doesn’t happen very often. Same with human females. The difference is that women may want sex for closeness, connection, validation, etc. Because women aren’t ovulating the majority of the month, it’s easier for them to get distracted by everything else. Their bodies are content being in a state of indifference.

In my relationship, the longer we go without sex the harder it is to start again because it's like my body isn't used to it anymore, so sex becomes painful. If we have frequent sex (daily or every other day) then there's much less issue.

I will say foreplay matters much more for women. If my partner wants sudden sex, most times I wont, but if he's hugging me etc prior and being really affectionate then I likely will. I do think that as a couple it's important to compromise, and sex is much more important for mens emotions than womens. Men bond often by having sex, so sometimes (as someone with a low libido), it's important to be open to it on occasion even if you're not in the mood. (all of this is IMO)
