This is true for both men and women, but particularly men because women are the more selective sex. Things like your genetics and height cannot reasonably be changed, but bodyfat levels can.

Women are also able to carry more fat than men, especially in their boobs and butts, and still look good if the fat is minimal in the rest of their bodies such as their waist and limbs.

Men on the other hand can only carry more fat if they have very a large frame (big bones), have very high muscle mass, or are white and tall since women overwhelmingly choose those traits in men.

Looks are the most important tangible factor when it comes to initial attraction, and looks are even more important for men than women - especially face.

After genetics, body fat percentage affects the way a man’s face looks more than anything else. A 5% change in body fat percentage, as little as 10lbs of fat, can be the difference between having chiseled features that women swoon over or being invisible.

Before anyone decides for themselves that they are ugly, they should get their bodyfat percentage to an ideal range (8-15% for men) and see what their face actually looks like.
