I've always thought it the uses of toxic masculinity and healthy masculinity was essentially just to reinforce strict gender roles on men, not free men of restrictions that lead to the vicious cycle we still see. They sell this idea of toxic masculinity which really is taking instances of mental illness and suggesting this was ever something anyone has encouraged in men, and then sell healthy masculinity as literally the exact definition of traditional masculinity, like it's actually insane, and I feel insane thinking I'm the only one who sees it.

I’m hearing more and more stories about women getting physically attacked/assaulted while nearby men do nothing. Of course all bystanders (male or female) should call the cops when things like this happen. But I guess more guys these days are worried that they themselves will get arrested for defending the woman. Our society used to have the idea that men had a responsibility to take care of women, but people are now taught that idea is sexist. I personally still think it’s a good idea as men are physically larger, but I get why men raised in a feminist society would treat a random woman the same way they would treat a random dude. I also think when anyone is in danger it’s good for anyone (male or female) to try and do what they can to help. But we also have a society that atomizes and divides people.

A few reasons why men don't step up to protect women as much anymore:

The men could be charged.
Feminism. Yes, unironically, feminism is also a cause of this. For many years, many men have seen women online mention how they don't need men anymore (to even protect them, etc), shit on men, how men are dogs, useless, etc.
They don't want to risk their own lives just to save someone else's possessions being stolen as there have been examples of men being killed/badly hurt from helping.

Men are already doing plenty to keep women safe, if not simply because it's mainly men who maintain the infrastructure, taxes and law enforcement that keeps most women safe. Crimes still happen though, and it's incredibly delusional to expect strangers to put themselves in danger for your sake, simply on the basis that they are a man or you are a woman, especially if you are a woman and therefore less likely to be shot, killed or maimed by a violent person than a man.

Most women would also not put themselves in danger to protect men, even when being a woman would actually put them in a better position to help those men. Most women won't even protect men from other women, whether that be violent or non-violent aggression, despite being in a much safer position to do so as women.

Also, a lot of men will still put themselves in harm way, even if it is completely sexist for anyone to expect them to. Men would be far more likely to put themselves in harms way, or sacrifice themselves, for the women in their lives. What's worse is that so many women actually expect traditional roles out of men but still expect to be completely exempt from any and all gender roles placed upon them. These women want servitude from men without offering any servitude themselves, which is just slavery.

I remember once my family and I were leaving the house when we heard our neighbors making a fuss outside, we thought they were being goofy until we eventually realized the women were freaking out because their child was choking. We all kinda paused like, "oh, they're serious" and heard one of them on the phone with 911. Another time I remember was when I was working as a bagger in a grocery store, I was bringing in carts from outside and had the big long row of them to push, a short distance away a man that regularly used crutches (maybe scoliosis?) had tipped over onto the pavement, there were many people around but I recall four women stopping and doing that stupid short "oh, oh!" gasp and just watching. My hands were tied but I saw another guy rush over to help him up as the first man kept saying "he was fine, don't worry". This was back in 2008 and I still remember how upset I was seeing whole groups of women just not do anything to help each other in these instances. I just don't understand. 🤷

I don't care about helping her, as I would. But I'd have to know a few things first:

1) She didn't actually in some way do something really dumb and selfish to put herself into this situation.

2) She isn't going to somehow roast me on social media for doing so. But given the present evidence she probably would, so good job men nearby for not helping her.

3) I wouldn't get a sexual harassment lawsuit for being in her general proximity while fighting off the robbbers.

Any man who wouldn't fight off the robbbers under these conditions, learn how to fight and man up.

If I don't know these three things, she's on her own.

Best solution: stop being a feminist, get a husband, and listen to what he has to say about your safety.

Meanwhile, I'm surprised this group hasn't brought up that one of the people who died at the trump rally was using his body as a shield for 2 females. That's what men do, instinctively. Maybe that's why it's so EXPECTED.

I’m a bit older. Gen x. When I was in college a girl got purse snatched. I tan and got her purse back. She was very thankful but I did t know if he had a knife or something. And honestly I’d probably do it again because it’s just nature and in the moment not thinking. But with how much women have fought to be equal I shouldn’t. Sadly women have created this environment. Maybe today I’d 2nd guess it. And I definitely don’t blame these men. Women asked for it. They can have it. Not all women of course.

This is the problem with modern day societal relationship between males and females and understanding our roles in society? Chivalry has been killed by feminism but it doesn’t mean that men become a victim to this horrendous ideology and let chivalry die.

Matter of fact if men practice stoicism and look to take care of the weak and innocent, then the world would be a much better place. If men practice stoicism things like only fans prostitution brothels would no longer exist because there would be no more a market for them.

It’s better to be kind, courteous, caring, virtuous, and have a lot of compassion because you become a better human being for it.

I’m pretty sure three men helping one woman out, is low risk for the group of men helping. Since they’re then outnumbering the robber?? I’m a pretty weak girl myself, and I tried to help a woman out from being robbed, it’s about helping a person out, not wanting men to get hurt. Naturally, nothing I did helped until a man intervened as well, because then we outnumbered the one guy robbing her.

Just like there are men who don't hate women, there are women who don't expect men to be their savior because they do know that deep down, we're all 🐱🐱. Expecting men to "save" women is weaponized incompetence... if my son gets stabbed because he would interfere in a robbing because the victim is a girl, I would be so mad at him. I teach him to save everyone just like I would interfere if I see something wrong, whether it's a man or woman. Just proves women can be natural born women and still have bigger balls than some men.

If someone is in danger you should help them, not because your a man or woman but because thats called having humanity. If there were 3 people there they should have helped regardless of gender. And if they didn’t they shouldn’t be held responsible, but it does show your character.

Disagree with the comments in OP’s post and OP himself. We should be able to help people in needs (as long as we don’t put our own life at risk), however it’s not because we’re men, it’s because we are humans. Therefore, we should expect the same treatment from women

Shouldn't matter it its a women or not. I'd help anyone that needed it, unless it was a serious danger to me or my family/people with me. If I was 3 of my mates tho, I'd absolutely be helping.

If you wouldn't then I'm sorry but it says more about you than any body else.
