I think women's beauty is culturally fetishized more than men's. Women are more sexualized and objectified in media etc so that we generally see women as more valuable of something to obtain sexually.

I also think that women have things like make up, fashion, hair and beauty standards so the average woman can peacock more whereas the average man walks about it the same neutral colors jeans/shirt combo.*

I think when I, for one, make this argument. I mean it this way, I think it's a complex systemic thing rather than a statement about the average woman vs the average woman.

Also, to counter one point you made, I think the obesity split is pretty much equal between men and women.

*I'd also like to add to this point that i think there's a certain charm, value and attractiveness in the opposite sex making an effort to look/smell good and healthy, rather than the simplicity of just looking good.

Its true and even goes further. good looks are symmetrical faces with good development of bones. Its the gene, gene damage and nutrient deficiencies in childhood what determines how good that is. Since female and males come from the same egg cells, potentially have the same parents and nutrition, they need to be equally good looking statistically . Now women use lots of make up, which inflates there looks drastically and men are less selective for sex which women equate with good enough for relationship because for them it’s synonymous, inflating their perception even further. So women have a complete inflated perception of their looks. How often do you actually see a women looking hot without make up? well its just as rare as good looking men.

Women are better looking on magazine pages and in insta because there is an entire industry of makeup and clothing where thousands of people sit and dedicate themselves full time to make women look hotter simply by putting something on their face or make their tits look better with fabric.

Most images you see on porn websites are made by professional photographers who know about poses, lighing, use a lot of Photoshop. They are full time professionalls who are paid to make a landwhale look like a goddess.

And then, you have men, who briush their teeth, shower and go to work/study.

If you accept those terms, yeah women are looking better. But if you strip women of their makeup, their clothing and photoshop, all you get is a very humble view. It is genetically harder for women to fight fat, they have genetically less muscle mass. A guy that simply plays football 2 a week with a can of beer in his hand will look better than a girl that cares about her diet and goes to the gym smartly.

Men look better and for men it is easier to look better.

I agree with the conclusion, but not the primary reasoning. It's really just makeup. Makeup raises your score by 1 or 2 points, and almost all women wear it regularly, while it's socially unacceptable for men to do so. This makes women seem 1 or 2 points more attractive than men at every level of the distribution.

Obviously women have a major leg up thanks to make-up, hair extensions etc… I’d say on average, with no make up, men and women probably look the same. I do agree with the fact that unattractive women think they can score a good looking guy just cause they have pussy. There is another factor you miss, at least men see women as more beautiful, I am not so sure if it's true for women, too that they see man as more attractive then another women.

But it's not a objective thing, you can think a beard is attractive as women but you likely don't want a beard on a women and don't find it attractive as hetero men.

So at least man and maybe also women see the other sex more attractive. Now women say they see themself often as 10 even if they are clearly not, but that is more a overcompensation, and especially if they say it in public they rather lie because of insecurity.

Deep down without somebody else in the room they know they are no 10, or they redefine it because they hate to be judged by their looks they will say I am 10 because of my personality.

But if you get somehow a women to be honest about that they would rate themself also lower / more realistic.

But yes we are biased by our sex blindness. Sure makeup adds onto that.

I agree with this take. I’m in an affluent part of the U.S. known for pretty good looking people and I often go days or weeks without seeing a woman who’s genuinely good looking.

If I’m hanging out in a mixed sex environment, the guys are certainly on par with - and often better looking - than the women.

The only exception seems to be with younger women, about 21-24. These women tend to look noticeably better than the guys.

Once you get closer to 30 though, no way women on a whole look better. Often I find the reverse is true. Particularly once women find a long term partner, they seem to just abandon the idea of putting a lot of effort into their weight and looks.

But, men are now on average weighing much less than women, and that skews it back to men looking better by not looking unhealthy.

You are jumping the gun. As far as I know, male vs. female attractiveness is under study and an open question, including what metrics one would use to compare the genders by.

There is enough reason to believe that women are more selected for beauty than men, and thus that females being more attractive is a possibility. It's been a while since I looked into this, so if the literature has recently come to a firm conclusion that this is not true, I'm happy to be corrected.

A few pictures of an average unwaxed, unshaven women without makeup will change your mind very quickly on this topic. Hell just google “celebrities without makeup” or “pornstars without make up” and you’ll see a lot of women who look like they’re recovering from the flu or teenage acne.

Eh, women might not be genetically more attractive but tend to do more to enhance their looks. It’s also possible women really have evolved to be more aesthetically pleasing to most eyes, a female “5” does not technically have to be just as pleasing or unpleasing to look at as a male “5.” Just like you probably find the average male bird “prettier” than the average female bird despite them both being average, this could be reversed in humans. Not saying it is the case, but it’s possible. One video of drunk chicks is kinda irrelevant... you could video fat dudes stumbling around drunk or playing video games at home and come to the conclusion that men are all pretty gross too, if that’s who happened to be in your line of sight.

I think if we look around the courtain that at least most/many man see women as much more beautiful because well they are straight and therefor are biologically "brain damaged" to see women as more beautiful as man. (I am not so sure about the opposite, but to some degree probably it applies, too, at least when love for a particular man kicked in already).

Besides that, which makes the question unanswerable because if you have 2 very different brains that judge looks very different how can you have then a objective statement about looks, but I think like with intelligence the range is bigger, women tend to be more all group at 6ish for the most part, (younger women at least) man vary from 2 to 8, like with intelligence where you have more genies and morrons with man but all women have around 100 iq.

I mean makeup is a great equalizer for beauty, there are 3-4 main types of women, mostly grouped by hair color, and then you have 4 types of women that most women paint on their faces.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder (or rather the frame-of-reference of the beholder). For instance, we humans perceive the deep red feathers of male cardinals as more attractive than the dull-colored female cardinals, but would the birds themselves see it that way? How would an alien species view us humans? When divorced from human sexuality, how would an outside observer view humanity? Humans themselves see woman as "prettier" or "more attractive" bc we're evolutionarily programmed to think so. It has little to do with anything objectively "beautiful" or "ugly".

On average women are better looking than men because most androgenic/masculine traits are very fisherian and are very costly to the body in terms of metabolic expenditure and vulnerability to pathogens (ie more surface area, larger airways, increased glycogen capacity, rbc to wbc ratio). This is part of why testosterone production and expression of androgenic traits are so heavily regulated by negative feedback and why mens' bodies are so stubborn to have more androgenic traits than their immune systems can handle. Part of the purpose of these traits is to test a boy's immune system and metabolism to determine whether they will be fit for breeding or not. This is also why there is more variation in males and their phenotypes than in females (more variation in height. Weight, muscle mass, penis size etc.)

Who are these obese women wanting fit men? I haven't met any. Though I'll agree that men have lower standards. A lot of women are delusional (about height mainly) and I find women who get a lot of plastic surgery/work done are trying hard to seem more high value than they are, which is just sad to me. If I was a guy, I'd be more into someone's natural look than the fake face look.
