For men, effort from a woman is highly attractive. Many would prefer an average or below-average woman who puts in effort over a conventionally attractive one who doesn’t. Effort is so important that a woman initially deemed unattractive can become desirable simply by how much she invests in the relationship. Likewise, a lack of effort can make even a highly attractive woman seem unappealing. In other words, effort has the power to move the needle in either direction, it can make a woman desirable or take away from her desirability.

For women, however, effort alone holds little value. Their attraction works almost in reverse, effort only matters if it comes from a man they already find attractive. In many cases, too much effort from an average-looking man can even be a turnoff. A woman will often prefer a conventionally attractive man who puts in minimal effort over a caring and devoted man she sees as average. No amount of effort can make a "5" qualify in her eyes. In fact, effort from the "wrong" man can sometimes backfire, making him seem desperate or unworthy, rather than increasing his attractiveness.

This creates a stark contrast: for men, effort is a deciding factor, it can elevate or diminish a woman’s desirability. But for women, effort hardly plays a role. It doesn’t create attraction where there wasn’t any to begin with, nor does a lack of effort necessarily make a desirable man any less attractive. Instead, effort only enhances the appeal of a man they already find attractive, while doing little to nothing for those they don’t.

Q4W: So why do men and women view effort so differently in attraction? Why don’t women find effort from an average man appealing? Why does effort only seem attractive when it comes from a man they already desire? Put another way, why is effort not a key factor for women when judging a man’s attractiveness? Why is it nonessential? And if effort from an average man is often a turnoff, does this mean attraction is more about raw desirability than the actions taken to build a connection for women?

(Note: This isn’t about people really struggling to find a partner but rather about those who are close to average or conventionally attractive. It also largely excludes older women, as many seek effort for personal gain rather than genuine attraction.)
