My opinion is that it’s a waste of time and it can be harmful to your skin. The point of pubic hair is to protect your vulva from dirt and bacteria and it’s also supposed to enhance sexual pleasure. Contact plucking and shaving causes irritation and ingrown hairs, and for who?! Males who can handle a natural full grown woman? I read somewhere (probably here) that the only people who have naturally hairless vulvas are LITERAL CHILDREN. It must be asked, WHY would any man be solely attracted to a woman who’s vulva looks like a child???

I do trim mine as it irritate me when it gets too long but outside of that I leave it natural. I told my husband prior to us marrying that I do not shave down there for the reasons above and he has accepted that. (Granted he actually shaves all of his because his really irritates him XD but that’s his personal choice)

I have a trimmer, I prefer it because I can trim very closely and get the sensation of bare skin without dealing with the regrowth of shaving or waxing. It's also helped me embrace hair I've decided to keep/style because I prefer to look like a woman (I feel less naked than when it's totally gone?) But I still get to trim for the hightened sensations I want.

I mean, the bald vulva thing definitely came out of porn. Before that, women kept their pubic hair and it wasn't something discussion worthy (in the UK at least, can't speak for other countries.) Then when it became a pornified expectation from men, that's when women started saying it was cleaner to shave (it isn't, good hygiene is what keeps you clean, not a lack of hair. If hair is unclean why don't we have lots of women shaving their head hair off in the name of cleanliness? I really don't think it's a coincidence that the hair women remove for alleged cleanliness purposes is also the hair men find gross because of porn. Plus, it is knownthat pubic hair reduces a woman’s chances of catching certain STIs, that’s one of the evolutionary reasons we have it.) I also am very passionate about ensuring that I don't make my vulva look pre-pubescent, ever since I found out that this trend in porn is correlated with a massive statistical increase in men streaming live CP.

No one can tell you what to do with your own body and if waxing it all off genuinely makes you happy then do it, but if you think that having hair on your vulva makes you unclean and/or ugly, I would hazard a guess that it is internalised misogyny that is making you do it, as opposed to a genuine desire to be bald.

And please, let’s stop implying that women who don’t have bald vulvas are being gross/unhygienic.

Years and years ago, I used to wax because I either had a boyfriend, expectations for casual sex, or lived close to the beach. Now I have neither and it’s liberating. I used to have so much anxiety about being “unprepared,” which speaks to how toxic my beliefs were about pleasing men and how little control I felt I had over my body. Me, I take a razor and shave any hair that peeks out from my drawers. Then, I take an electric shaver like for a beard and put the shortest attachment on and run it over the pubes. This keeps me neat and clean but also easily identifiable as a POST PUBESCENT ADULT WOMAN. 😆

Shaving everything gives me ingrown hairs, unpleasant bumps and itchiness. And I’d rather be comfortable than uncomfortable.

I do agree with the poster saying hairlessness heightens sensations. However, hairless pubes are not actually "cleaner", there's a reason we have hair down there. Theire role is to be a barrier against nasty bacteria!

Also, I've heard many ppl say men being obsessed with hairless vulvas is lowkey pd0, idk if that's true for all cases. Many times it seems to be more bc it looks like a prn star (not so much better lol).

Honestly I think every woman should do as she pleases, what bugs me is the expectation many men seem to have today that a woman should always be hairless down there. Just no.

Personally I don't find hairless vulvas so appealing anymore. I find pubes sexy on both men and women. Also I live in a EU country where ppl freely go about naked when in saunas - nudity is not as sexualised. When I see grown women with a completely waxed/lasered crotch, I can't help thinking that young girls who see this are internalizing the idea that their vulva has to look forever like a prepubescent child's.

Also it annoys me that today's swimsuits and bikini bottoms are so revealing that they're impossible to wear without waxing beforehand. It's as though there's an expectation, an assumption that women are going to pull out all their crotch hairs to go to the pool/beach. Bring back the 1950s swimsuits plz.

To end this rant with a more productive piece of advice: If you're in a relationship with a guy wants you to wax your pubes, then why don't you make him pay for the sessions?

Like others here, I don’t really care what you do, as long as you are doing it for your own comfort. I will point out that, contrary to what you might assume, having “bush” is actually cleaner, assuming you even minimally care for it (as in, bath regularly and scrub it) because the hairs trap potential irritants and can prevent infections. In fact, shaving or waxing the pelvic area is a major risk factor for yeast infections, BV, etc because the purpose of the hair is to prevent those things.

You should also consider ingrown hairs. I get a lot of them wherever I shave or wax, and they are insanely hard to get rid of. Not to mention really uncomfortable sometimes. Everyone knows waxing and especially shaving = more ingrown hairs.

That said, I know plenty of women who just prefer the feeling of being waxed. If that is worth it to you, there’s no shame in doing what you want. The other risks can be managed (with good hygiene, a preventative ingrown hair treatment) so there’s really no wrong answer.

I always ask women to question why they remove body hair. It's never as straight forward as you think.

"I just like it" -Why? "It's hygenic" -Do you believe that about men's body hair? Have you looked for the evolutionaty reason for body hair? "It looks more beautiful" -Who wants you to think that? Look up Bartholin cyst. Extremely painful. Shaving/waxing can contribute to this condition. Anytime I’ve seen a woman present to the ER for this she’s bald in the pubic region.

At the end of the day your personal comfort is the most important but with that said… I had a moment about a year ago where I noticed that I would be shaving out of shame. I’ve never had a boyfriend, never even had my first kiss and I am in college with so many goals and aspirations. Yet whenever I undressed to get in the shower and saw that I had body hair on my pits, legs, privates, I imagine how gross I would appeal to a man without even realizing it. I had these reoccurring thoughts that went along the lines of “women in movies never have body hair, I want to be carelessly beautiful like they are” and “men love to see a carelessly beautiful woman”.

Then one day I actually dissected these thoughts and realized how much of what I was doing was in result of being groomed for so long by the male gaze and rejected my matured body for it. I have only been shaving when I truly wanted to since then and I have never felt more beautiful and empowered by that. Obviously my experience is merely anecdotal and every woman has their own journey with body hair but sometimes it takes looking inwards on the things we do to really see who exactly we were doing them for.

Since you mention you find it oainful and expensive, I would suggest you reevaluate if it’s what you truly want or not. For me the sensation of hair down there rubbing on clothes bothers me. If you find the right place, usually a small cosmetic office, laser hair removal is can be about the same price. I was going every six weeks for $80 and there are no bumps and less and less hair grows back each time. It’s amazing!

I think try letting everything grow out while actually engaging with the change positively and then check what you do like and what you don't like. I found out I really like my leg hair a lot. It's soft once long and I can now admit I only used to remove it for pick me reasons. Armpit hair for example was a huge no for me because using deodorant gets messy, so I prefer keeping it clean. Find out if the full bush is for you or just trimmed, wax some, etc. Whatever you feel comfortable leaving alone when noone is going to see is what you should aim for. That's how you make sure that it's for the right reasons.

I'd say if you perceive that it feels "cleaner" when waxed bare you have some internalized misogyny about your natural body being "unclean" and you do have some unlearning to do. Try a trimmer. No ongoing fees, no inconvenient appointments, no pain, no skin irritation or bleeding, no itchy regrowth and no non-pornsick, non-pedo man will have an issue with a trimmed hedge.

It's similar to getting comfortable leaving the house without an expensive blowout or full face of makeup (a huge source of anxiety for me in my early 20s). You will probably feel uncomfortable or anxious at first but once you push past it you will be SO much more relaxed and confident with yourself, not to mention the time and money you'll save. Once you adapt to seeing your natural body you probably won't find it so much less attractive than waxing either. Again, an extremely pornsick guy might balk at anything less than a full Brazilian but you don't want one of those anyway and the vast majority of men won't care at all.

It's your body, your choice, but often we aren't actually making our own authentic choices because we've absorbed so much perception-warping messaging from the outside world. It's NEVER a bad idea to become more comfortable with your natural body. That's always an empowering choice. And hey, waxing will always be there if you change your mind - but you have nothing to lose and a lot to gain by getting outside your (current) comfort zone and trying something new.

If I’m not in a relationship or going to the beach, I let a full bush grow out. It feels great. I was once backpacking across Asia and just left everything to grow out the way men grow out their beards when they travel.

I trim when I go swimming or am seeing someone. I realize that shaving when going swimming is fully because of the patriarchy - God forbid someone at the beach sees that I have pubic hair! I trim when I’m seeing someone so that oral is comfortable for them and they also don’t pull out any hair with their teeth. It’s mostly about comfort in that regard.

TBH, I like being slightly “trimmed up” down there because I personally feel more sanitary, especially because I have fairly heavy cycles, so less hair= less mess. So not necessarily for a dude, but I do keep myself trim during a relationship, just as I expect a guy to (and I do expect him to). I think if you feel better, and it makes you feel sanitary, then do you. It doesn’t have to be a “pick me” trait, just like genuinely enjoying/wearing makeup because it makes you feel good and confident isn’t being a “pick me.”

THAT BEING SAID— I will say that I got just a standard bikini laser treatment (so not completely bare, I have a thicker “landing strip” in the middle lol) done with a groupon a couple years ago and it was a GREAT decision. Way better bang for your buck than waxing if you go the groupon route! It’s less painful IMO too, less risk of infection/ingrown hairs, and obviously much longer lasting!

i’ve been wondering what we all think about this too. it feels ‘cleaner,’ especially when i’m working out almost every day. but singleness combined with COVID completely obliterated my desire to go out and pay money for a wax. i still get my nails done, but as far as the bikini area’s concerned i’m apparently happy enough just trimming it so i don’t get all sweaty.

the one guy i slept with last year turned out to have porn-induced ED, which of course he blamed on my pubic hair and a million other things. i thought about getting a wax fOr HiM, but ultimately cut my losses and blocked/deleted. if i’m fine with a trim, i’m not about to spend money for the reward of disappointing sex with an insecure man.

I just trim.. I get horrible in grown hairs when I shave or wax. So I only shave or wax if I'm going to be wearing a bikini. Being completely shaved I find causes chaffing because there seems to be more sweat and also, this is weird, but when I pee it sprays everywhere. I don't know if other people get this but for me 100% it's more comfortable with some hair. If a guy has a problem with that it's definitely a great way to vet.

I prefer to keep my hair because of that, I usually just trim it and shave patterns and designs into my pubes, it's actually kinda fun. I've done lightning bolts, arrows, hearts, etc. That way I don't look like a prepubescent kid and I can express my artistic side.

I never waxed and I probably won’t ever. I have used Nair or tried trimming in the past, but I can count the amount of times if Ive done it on one hand. Being bald down there is so strange, I can barely remember a time in my life where I didn’t have hair so being hairy feels natural for me. I don’t feel any obligation to really shave down there bc I had a partner who was really made me feel comfortable having a bush (despite being very pornsick lol)

I will say though that having hair down there has actually help me curb sexual violence a few times. While I don’t recommend this as a strategy necessarily, but I think having a bush ruins the fantasy for most pornsick rapists

Personally I've used a laser home device on my legs, armpits, bikini line. My legs really took to it and hair is not prickly anymore, grows slowly and some areas have no hair. armspits/pubic hair is a bit different it definitely slows some growth and made growth less consistent. But I think I'd need in office laser to get more permanent removal!

To me it's worth it. I don't mind hair in some spaces, and didn't start lasering due to any man. It just helps to cut down on time spent shaving.

I always got ingrowns and itchy regrowth. I dont even shave anymore because my skin is pretty sensitive. But I use something akin to a beard trimmer to remove some length. I've never had anyone say anything about it. I used to tell people before it got to the point where they'd see it. Nobody seemed to care. I do still feel a little self conscious at the beach or when people really obviously look at my legs in public 🤷🏽‍♀️ but it's come down to comfort vs expectations for me

I prefer a landing strip or a delta, if a man wants me completely bare it's a red flag. The men who did were pornsick freaks. And my hair is extremely thick and really coarse, I wouldn't want a mouthful of that tbh. Head is just more enjoyable without all of that in the way. I prefer my men to be trimmed as well, too much hair or none at all is weird.

I'm more committed to the upkeep in the summer and usually just stick to trims in the winter. I'm trying to be more regular about it, because the longer between waxes the more it hurts. And I also personally like the feel of it, I just love smooth skin all over lol. I feel like my opinion would be very different, if I was lucky enough to have fine, thin, light body hair.

A few years ago I bought a Groupon for laser hair removal. It was mildly painful, but bearable. I did 6 treatments and barely had public hair during that time. Now, maybe 4 years later, I still have pubic hair (though less and thinner than before) and I trim it occasionally.

My body hair doesn’t bother me so I don’t do much apart from an occasional trim.

If a guy gets into your pants, he should just be happy to be there. Obviously, expecting someone to go down on you when your pubes are reminiscent of Don King's head isn't very "courteous," but if we're talking about short trimmed hair vs waxing everything bald... I think the idea is that if you vet men well enough during dating, you're able to weed out the pornsick, misogynistic men who would be sickened by normal body hair before you get to the level where you'd have sex with them.

As other commenters have said, your personal preferences are your own business, but yeah, be aware that it stems from ingrained porn preferences for a prepubescent appearance. If you're feeling cognitive dissonance over your waxing, lean into that feeling. Female bodies are a battlefield. You are purposely cut off from self love, bodily autonomy, ownership and choice by a system that objectifies, consumes, and capitalizes off your body. It is critical as part of your feminist practice and reconnecting to your body that you explore WHY you treat your body in the way you do and WHAT feelings that gives you when you run counter to it. Allow yourself to process those feelings whether they are body dysphoria or disgust or fear. Observe them, engage in them, explore their source. Maybe it's too much - step back and try again later. What does that feel like? What happens when your fundamentally shift your perspective on your body and put your feelings into a constructive space? What if that body dysphoria is you shedding a narrow vision of femininity? Can disgust be flipped to radical acceptance? And can fear be turned around into self love and sensuality?

Everyone's hair growth is different so I don't think there can be a universal rule that says removing hair growth is internalised misogyny.

I used to have extremely coarse, bushy hair and I hated it. It was very difficult to remove, grew back quickly, caused painful ingrown hairs, and I was so self-conscious of it. I'm very hygienic, but I definitely noticed that the coarse hair retained a "musk" smell that made me uncomfortable.

I started to get laser hair removal. I had ten sessions before I stopped getting sessions which kept the hair away for about six months until it grew back. It grew back much finer and is soooo much more easier to maintain. I now get a bikini wax every six weeks because I find it easier to maintain that way, rather than trimming etc.

Personally, I would expect a man to do man-scaping before going down there.

I'm not sure if my view is the by-product of internalised misogyny, but I know that I am so much happier, less stressed, more comfortable being spontaneous. Given that I had so many issues with coarse hair, I'm doing what's right for me.

EDIT I also wanted to add that when I had coarse hair, even letting it be natural caused ingrown hairs. It looked like I had acne down there and caused me pain. Nobody wants acne symptoms anywhere. The laser hair removal completely removed those symptoms, and I'm much more comfortable letting it grow out because maintenance is so easy now.

For what it's worth, it's technically dirtier, to the extent that you're more likely to get UTIs without pubes. I think that reason, coupled with the fact that it's painful, makes it decidedly not FDS (or at least not feminist).

I get a full body wax every month for £50. I get everything below my eye brows removed. I understand how society has shaped our perception of body hair, but I will keep up with my hair removal. If my hair grows out from time to time that's fine, but I prefer being smooth.

I started getting waxed in the late 90’s when it was just popular. I lived in NYC, and went to the J Sisters, which put Brazilian waxing on the map, and was written into an episode of Sex In The City. I’d never had a lot of pubic hair to begin with, and my friends and I were intrigued.

We were in our mid-late 20’s.

I loved it, it was much more pleasing to me.

Something to note about me though, I never ever once did anything “for men.” I wore what I liked and did what I wanted to do IN SPITE of the effect any of it would have on any man.

Never asked a man about shit. Didn’t give a shit if he liked it, and if anyone ever had an opinion about it, I can’t say that I recall hearing it.

I also tended towards men who didn’t voice opinions about my body, except to praise it. Never had an issue with a man telling me what worked for him and what didn’t, because I never cared, so I didn’t really attract men who wanted or even sought that kind of dynamic.

The last several men/relationships I’ve had, I’ve been through various stages of shaving legs/hairlessness/not shaving, and not one of them has ever had an opinion about it.

That was for context.

I prefer having no hair. That’s about me, not about what anyone else thinks.

That being said…I found that having a little in the front keeps me from peeing wonky if I’m hovering. So I like the Brazilian bikini, meaning a little tuft in the front, but nothing else.

Something else about me: I’m extremely cheap when it comes to certain things that are repeat expenses, so I used to do the waxing myself.

Now I’m older and the hair hasn’t grown back for a while, and I don’t really care. My partner literally couldn’t care less about whether I have hair or not, I could show up in a mummy costume and he’d think it was hot.

Why did I type all of this?

Because as long as you stop doing ANYTHING that’s based on whether men like it or not, you can literally do anything you want and it’s right for you.

I’ve never given one slippery shit what men want or expect from my body, and I won’t give a shit about anyone telling me I’m not a feminist because I wax or shave. Not shaving for women isn’t any less unacceptable than shaving for men.

Do whatever feels best and most comfortable for YOU. If you are in a relationship and a man comments on your pubic hair or lack thereof, that right there speaks to his character. I personally wax because I don't like how my pubic hair feels. If a man were to see me during the phase between waxes where my pubic hair is growing out and feel the need to "educate" me on how it "should" look, that would be the last time I talk to that LVM.

I got laser hair removal because pubic hair made me itchy. I was single at the time too. I didn’t like growing it out because despite my best hygiene I noticed a distinct smell that wasn’t there when I removed it. And if I had my period it was messier. I tried sugar waxing and epilating but sugar waxing gave me insane ingrowns and epilating was like torture. I’m happy I did laser.

i do it because i feel so yucky with hair especially on my periods (and ive had my periods for 3 months because of medication messing up rn).

I wax because it feels great to ME. FDS has it's purposes but you still should have you own opinions about your body hair, your hygiene, and listen to your wants and desires on how you present yourself to yourself. That's autonomy and free thinking. Personal hygiene shouldn't be done by vote or popular opinion.

Do what you feel is right for you. If hair removal is your preferred style then do it, if going au natural is preferred then do that but whatever you do make sure it's your opinion you follow.

I wanted to grow mine out but it gets so itchy past a certain length, so trimmed is the most comfortable.
