Omg this was my ex 🤣🤣 He talked about how his dad didn't buy him a bike as a child. It was very traumatic. He had a great childhood with his Pickmeisha mother who coddled him, never raised her voice to him and now his sister does the same. His dad spent 200k for him to move to America and get a great education. He had a decent job that made over 250k per year yet no savings. He lived paycheck to paycheck because he was so irresponsible with money. Gambled, drank and smoked. Before he met me he spent most nights in strip clubs. He always talked about this darkness inside of him and how his relationship with his dad was strained because his didn't buy him a bike when he was a child and how the first girl he loved lead him on and married someone else. Urhhhgh. I'm so embarrassed at the shit I put up with. He was apparently misunderstood and different 🤣

I remember once when I was 19 my now ex was supposed to pick me up from the hospital. My phone was off so I couldn't reach him. But he knew the time he was supposed to get me. I waited in the boiling sun for 3 HOURS. He never came. When I eventually got hold off him and asked him why he never came he said that he got into an argument with his mom and she wouldn't let him get the car. That was always his thing, crying about his mom being awful. I tried to be an understanding gf and asked what happened. He snapped at me and said 'why are you asking? Its not like you can help.' Oh and he didn't apologize either

Fun fact. Want to know if someone is projecting when they are being mean to you? Challenge them/call them out on it. "Why are you doing/saying that? What's going on?"

If it's projection (which it almost always is) they will INSTANTLY break down. It will be messy. And it will be instant. Cause when they do this that shit is just beneath the surface.

I don't always recommend it because I've seen grown ass adults fall to pieces at my feet when I call out their unnecessary rudeness but yeah. Just having the knowledge that they're one call out away from utter meltdown can make it easier to ignore people like this

Ugh! This sounds like my ex! He faked a personality for 6 months and then let out all his toxicity on our first overseas trip.

I mean, one of the reasons he had a tantrum was when we went to a famous burger joint and chose each of our orders ourselves, he later actually said one of the reasons he was having such a bad day is he picked the wrong burger and mine had bacon in it and his didn't. I was like wtf??? Are you 36 or 3? 😳

At the end of the trip, after several mantrums and when we were just having it out with each other, he started talking about his "trauma" and how he doesn't know how to be another way because, poor him, break out the baby violins, he grew up in a home where everybody screams at each other.

I was like, and what kind of home do you think I grew up in? That's exactly why I try to be better and different than the dysfunction I was raised in. I remember, almost verbatim, I was like "I am so fucking nice to you all the fucking time, it's been shocking to me to have you raise your voice and over the most trivial things!"... I mean it really hurt, because here I am trying to be extra considerate and sweet and this guy starts screaming at me, which he never did before the trip, about trivial things and things that have nothing to do with me (his hairline was another issue he brought up and having a crisis about aging 🙄).

Based on MY background with a screamy dysfunctional family and a marriage where someone flipped the personality switch on me before, I dumped him after the trip.

I am not here for any of that bullshit. In fact, it made my blood run cold.

LMAO so my ex told me some fucking sob story about how when he was little, he got taken to some laser tag/arcade place, and then one day it closed down. And apparently that was when he realized nothing lasts forever, and he was soooo saaaaad. This was when we were getting to know each other and I don't know what the point of that story was. If he was trying to show his "soft side", it failed horribly, because it left me thinking he had the emotional depth of a puddle, which was correct.

I can't remember if he had the audacity to call that traumatic or not, because about halfway through his monologue I was thinking "is this guy fucking serious right now? An arcade closure was some deep moment for him? What the fuck? Am I the asshole for thinking this is ridiculous right now?"

That’s not to say they’re perfect dudes, but they set an example of the bare minimum of what I expect and I spent so much of my young dating life being absolutely baffled by this common behavior. Like really, my guy — that’s your trauma?! My brother’s mother was a druggy and our dad was a clueless idiot so he had to raise himself, joined the military & raised his son as a single dad when the woman he married ditched them because turns out she didn’t like kids. He mostly stays single these days because he is focused on his career and spending time with his son when he isn’t stuck traveling for work. I still think he could do better, but like I said — the minimum. Even my idiot dad who has been married three times never cheated, paid his child support even though he didn’t get to see 2 of his kids, raised me on a shoestring budget. The man doesn’t drink, smoke, gamble, goes to church and volunteers taking food to the less fortunate who can’t come to the free pantry, but he does spend a stupid amount of money on cars, especially now that he is gunshy when it comes to financials + women after the last one took him for everything because he was hopelessly in love with her. He was an orphan from Chicago and dropped off in California at a military school — talk about baggage?! Yeah he made a lot of mistakes of the naive and trusting kind and sometimes I wanted to slap some sense into him even as a kid but damn if he wasn’t trying to be an upstanding citizen. Even my weird Uncle whose dad dropped dead when he was a kid decided against having his own and became a teacher & we’re talking the kind of teacher that comes to our Thanksgiving dinners actually reading these kid’s essays and making notes so they’re actually prepared for college level work. I don’t think he will ever get married and is in that “long term girlfriend” area because he is most likely autistic and super particular about his personal space, but guess what, he knows this about himself and he found a great woman who happens to be a germaphobe and loves this arrangement. They both have their own apartments and take trips together & it works for them.

Anyways, the point is there are plenty of men who have been through shit and aren’t so cringe. I am SO tired of these whiny poor me attitudes!! It’s straight pathetic.
