Uhm, considering we are the majority victims of domestic violence it would be pretty easy to understand that we want equal consideration, meaning men would stop violently assaulting us. That would be equality.

Sexism coming from men and sexism coming from women is not the same thing. It cannot be because we live in a patriarchal society. Just as racism from the oppressed minority does not have the same impact as racism from the dominant majority. Pretty simple to understand.

Have you actually seen his TED talk? I'm not sure if this is a new one but I've seen one by him before. It was actually worse than it sounds. So many soundbites about gendered violence and male on female violence and male on female sexual violence. It was a lengthy talk, maybe 15 minutes, not a single word about male victims or female perpetrators. He made it sound as if violence itself was only something that can be done by men to women.

This is amazing how this works in domestic and sexual violence. How men have been erased from so much of the conversation about a subject that is centrally about men.

Oh awesome. He's getting it! We need to look at men and how they are affected and their own behavior.

And then he proceeds to talk about women and how they become to spotlight. Yet never seems to realize that he can't quite connect how poor his logic is since he can't flip it for himself. And naturally, HE beat HER and not the other way around.

He mentions why do men sexually abuse children. Why do we hear about that all of the time? Well, it doesn't happen that often, but we highlight. And we don't hear about women abusing children because no one really wants to hear that (and it's not molesting a child for women. It's just sex).

Anyway, this is a TEDx talk. These are known as talks that are less organized and setup for a local community, largely just anyone is able to participate in these.

It's also nice he mentions this isn't a battle of the sexes. Which is why he blames men and refuses to highlight that women can be perpetrators as well.

Domestic abuse is a mens issue, millions of men are abused by thier wives and partners. I was one of them, and could do nothing to stop it because she held all the cards. If I left, she got everything. If I fought back I went to jail. If I tried to get her arrested I would be arrested. If I just defended myself I would be arrested. All I could do was take it, from a woman who was 100lbs lighter than me.

Both men and women commit domestic violence. Women initiate the violence about as often as men do, and although men inflict more physical damage on average, children are damaged just by witnessing it regardless of severeit levels. In light of the Jodi Arias case it's sad to see people making this an issue of gender bias. The CDC figures are more reliable than Department of Justice figures that use crime language in their surveys, because people less often consider it "crime" when it's female-on-male than the reverse.

Or, you know, we could not write off all of TED and the TEDx offshoots based on one presentation. There are so many thousands in their archive that your attitude is categorically unreasonable. Do we forever stop utilizing a news source over one erroneous report? If not, why is this categorically different? You are throwing the baby out with the bathwater. This particular talk is shit, but there's no reason to conclude anything else.
