Proximity is a really big one. A woman who is open to being approached by you will not move away if you move closer to her. A woman who actively wants you to approach will create an opportunity by placing herself closer. If you've been making eye contact with a woman and move closer to her, she will gtfo the area if she doesn't want you to talk to her.

These guys need advice more than anything and this post shows the level they're at if they still find something like eye contact an alien concept.

In my experience outside of school or something women make it obvious if they want you, and if you aren't sure your noticing the signals there are none. This can be a painful thought but there will be a huge percentage of men that are effectively invisible to women desperately seeking signals in the mere coincidence of casual glances/ polite smiles.

General tips:

Ask something more interesting than the weather that’s suited to the situation. At a pool hall? Do you play often? How long have u been playing? Tell an interesting story related to the situation, I was playing this one time and….

In my experience.

Just means you caught her eye and she felt shy, could mean she digs you but not necessarily.
She has some interest, maybe even testing you out a bit. Women typically won't maintain eye contact with men they're not at least interested in, in some way. If there's complete lack of attraction, she may throw a cursory glance at his attire or mannerisms.
Prolonged eye contact with a smile means she's curious, to some degree and down to talk.
Don't read too much into these things. Depends on the social group, venue etc.

From my experience:

Long (sometimes deep) eye contact. I think this is the most important. If a woman looks the way in your eyes that you get embarrased, you have to shot your shot, now! If she is too shy, she looks always in your direction but not in your eyes direct. You have to look in her eyes and she will reciprocate it.
She likes to be close to you, like she ends up "coincidentally" always next to you at the bar, on the canteen, in bibliothek, in the gym, etc. If you are not sure, just repeat and she will repeat as well.
She likes to hear your opinion like on everything, as long as you are a decent guy. If you aren't a dick and don't speak about other people in a degrading way it's almost indifferent what you are talking about, she will like it anyway.
She likes to play with her hair during you are speaking to her. She laughs at your lame jokes and lame sotires.
She asks frequently about your stuff. "How was your weekend?" "How did you enjoy that party?" What did you do, what sport do you like, why, etc.

There are no universal signals. Some women will make eye contact with guys they are into, some won't. That's because different women react differently to different things, we are not a homogeneous blob nor Zelda dungeons to figure out.

I am one of those if I can look you in the eye and talk to, I AM NOT attracted to you. If I am around a hot guy I will feel shy, I will feel that sense of butterflies, I will blush, I will stutter, I will look away. The thing is, while there are general “signals” it’s different signals from different people. And I know that’s hard to explain: the whole “you won’t know till you can tell” but that’s a lot of the “subtlety and nuance” A girl looking at you and smiling and looking down might be a signal to approach, or she might be shy and trying to disengage eye contact to get you to NOT approach. How do you know? Well there are other clues, but you just kind of learn and get a “feel gif things”. And yeah, there is trial and error along the way. Sometimes it can be obvious, sometimes a girl will be like “I was giggling and playing with my hair over there the whole time, how did you not notice me flirting?!”

I would say eye contact and a smile is the only safe option to approach someone, unless it’s an awkward forced smile. Eye contact alone is NOT a good indicator because my eyes cross lots of peoples paths daily, doesn’t mean I want to talk to them.

Typically when I’m interested in a guy I will face him head on, make lots of eye contact, and smile at him a lot or laugh at something he does. My body language clearly signals that I’m open to meeting him. Honestly, I have no problem approaching a guy myself, just like many other women, and I actually prefer it when I make the first move. However, sometimes a man wants to make the first move, so here’s some other considerations:

1.) setting and context is everything. At the grocery store or gym? No. Leave her alone. At a social outing, bar, or festival? That’s much more appropriate.

2.) check who she’s with and what they are doing. If it’s a group of girls out having a girls night and clearly not engaging with anybody but their own group of girls, then leave her alone. If she seems preoccupied/busy, or is conversing with someone else, leave her alone.

3.) learn to read body language. If she keeps her back turned to you, leave her alone. If she keeps avoiding making eye contact, leave her alone (and don’t stare because we can feel a guy staring us down). If you walk by her and she shrinks in her seat, turns her back, or leans away from you, leave her alone. It’s usually not by accident that she’s just “not noticing you,” she’s probably avoiding you because she knows you’re interested and it’s not reciprocated.

4.) this one hurts, but don’t approach girls who are very clearly out of your league. I feel too many guys overestimate the kind of women they can attract. They shoot for the stars and end up inevitably failing. Ask your female friends or Reddit to rate your physical appearance out of 10 and take the average. That will help you know where you stand on the totem pole.

5.) if you think she is approachable and open to you, then start a simple, pleasant conversation. Do not start out complimenting her appearance. Talk to her like you would a friend. If she gives one word answers, is blunt, has no friendliness in her face or voice, and keeps turning away to cut off the interaction, she’s clearly not interested. Just take it gracefully and walk away. An interested woman will keep a conversation going no matter what y’all are talking about.

6.) social run-ins are the best way to meet women. If she’s having fun with her group, you’re having fun with yours, then that eases the situation. Don’t be the guy posted up at the bar for the sole purpose of staking out women. We know what you’re doing. We are much more attracted to the guy who’s out having a good time. If our groups mingle and we cross paths naturally, that’s the best way.

For example, one of the biggest paradox for men in dating is "is she flirting or just being nice". We don't have that paradox because guys are dumb, but because some women are much more suitable when fitting than others.

This whole women don't consider other women can be extended further by looking at how they expect men to approach. "A confident aggressive man who takes charge is just so attractive" is a comment echoed by many women. Yet just as many women also feel that an aggressive man is creepy and makes them fear for their safety.

Again we end up with this flip of a coin and women don't even want to consider how it is to deal with these situations because its complicated and means they would actually have to put them selfs in a man's shoes when dating.

If your aim is random sex, two approaches:

If incredibly anxious -

1) Be inherently attractive to her. You don’t know if you are until you do the other steps and she’s willing to engage in conversation with you.

2) Present and move with an air of confidence. Your anxiety will make her anxious. Being anxious or unconfident in a rogue approach is a signal to a woman that you are unattractive or dangerous.

3) Make eye contact with her and smile. Attempt this at least twice over a short period to ensure her reciprocated gaze wasn’t a fluke. If you can make eye contact with her more than once, you have better odds than none she was looking at you.

4) Approach and make conversation. If shes short in her responses, she doesn’t want to talk. If she moves away from you as you approach, she doesn’t want to talk. If her friends get in between you, she doesn’t want to talk. If she doesn’t smile at all, look you in your eyes, or ask for your name within the first 10 minutes, she doesn’t want to talk with you.

If less anxious -

1) Do not, in any way, engage with your inherent concerns with the approaching situation. Do not think about possible failure. Do not think about prior failures. Do not think about anything but getting her to smile at you.

2) Confidently, approach and either

A - ask her a question about an external feature,

B - Complement her on anything (!) other than her body. Clothes, style, something in her hand, something in her hair.

C - An adjustment she should make. Lint in her hair, something in teeth, something. This one is the hardest because it could easily come off as an insult, but could earn the highest brownie points as its the most novel and suggests direct concern for her. She will appreciate this

3) Proceed with conversation as in 4) above.

If it’s something more long term, generally aim for women you are cordial with. If you can’t successfully do the above approach, don’t expect to be able to date her either.

1) Women who like you will show signs over repeated interactions. Offering to meet you, putting herself in positions to see you, trying to engage with your interests are all signs she could like you.

Test: If you don’t know if a woman is being friendly or wants something more, but you do generally get to spend time with her, begin suggesting alone time. Or if you often hang together in groups, ask her if she wants to invite everyone else. More 1 on 1 events = High likelihood she’s interested. Women show attraction with their time.

2) Unnecessary touching, her asking for your specific assistance with something, making/doing things for you, complementing you, encouraging you if you self deprecate, noticing minute changes in your body/demeanor, asking for your specific opinion on things, being the first to initiate 1on1 conversations in group settings, laughing more than others laugh at you, asking you to do mundane tasks with her (grocery shopping, errands, etc), she makes singular comments about you relative to others (you’re the only person, you do things differently than etc), changes to baseline temperament for your presence ( ex, she’s usually late, but isn’t when meeting you, she doesn’t dress up too much, but looks more put together around you), and her friends saying she’s mentioned you are all positive signs she is interested. She doesn’t need to do all these things, but doing some more than a little is better.

If much of 2) occurs without 1), use 1)’s test scenario. Her want to use her time with you is a near requirement though, but 1 on 1 is key.

Women don't always do the same uniform body language signs as this list that was posted. Some women strangely avoid eye contact when they like a guy while other women show all 6 of these signs and may still have zero real interest in a guy. I know this from experience.

Women appear to be interested: smiling, touching, eye contact, grooming, smizing, etc but then when I dig further turns it she is just plain old nervous or oddly intimidated somehow. Also, women can be just as flaky as men when they meet someone they instantly like and then very soon afterward they lose feelings for him.

From my experience, proximity, body language, covert communication.

Proximity: not only will a woman put herself in your vicinity, but she will also give subtle social cues that she's open to you approaching. There's this chick at my gym who always has her headphones on. Always. Once we started noticing each other, I picked up that whenever we would cross paths, she either didn't have her headphones on, or one ear would be exposed. I shot my shot, she was very receptive, and now we have small talk whenever we see each other at the gym.

Body language: this one's pretty self explanatory, a woman will definitely let you know by her body language whether she's signalling for you to talk to her or not.

Covert communication: outside of any type of influence, a woman communicates covertly. Constant or held eye contact and a smile is what you'll get most of the time. In proximity, she'll use the same type of communication to break the ice. I went to the club, a woman strolled right up next to me and said, "this club is packed and I can't find my friends, can I stay here for a bit?". I was quick enough to pick up what she was saying and said "sure, dance with me until you find them". Before we parted ways the next morning, I joked about her never finding her friends and she said, "oh I knew where they were but I thought you were fine and wanted to get your attention."

Women generally initiate interactions with men. There have been academic studies done "in the field" where they observed behavior in various places. The thing is...the initiation will be nonverbal. There's a ton of info online about nonverbal communication. It involves things like eye behavior, touching hair, positioning of body, bending over in front of you, etc.

What would the signals look like?

As you might expect, the biggest one is looking. If you, as a man, notice that a woman is looking at you...well, figure it out. If you glance over and a woman's looking at you then looks away...and, this happens a few times...figure it out.

Another big one is proximity. If a woman purposefully puts herself in your proximity, that could mean nothing...but, it also could mean a lot. You have to put together all the little pieces together into a whole to interpret.

So, in other words, if you notice a woman across the gym is looking at you repeatedly, then you're sitting on a piece of equipment and she sits at a machine across from you and has a little smile...figure it out.

You have to put all the pieces of behavior together and interpret them together. It's pretty easy to do when you know what to look for...google around nonverbal communication for more about this.

If she keeps glancing at you or makes eye contact again after breaking it, that’s one. Smiling while doing so is a pretty clear one. If she moves closer to you, that’s another. Or finding an excuse to talk to you that may not seem like what you’d think of as an “approach,” but really wouldn’t be necessary unless she wanted to talk to you. Of course, customer service is a big exception here, since they have to do those things as part of the job.

I wouldn’t say you need to wait for signals to approach, at least in a bar or club setting. It’s far more important to watch for signals to go away, and most important, to stop after a clear rejection. Some guys here seem to think that if you approach a woman and she’s not interested, that’s it, off to jail, better go hide in the basement if you’re not 10/10 Chad. But that just isn’t true. The men who get called creeps and sometimes face consequences are those who won’t back off or make explicit sexual comments. Think “would I punch a guy for speaking to my mom or sister this way?” If not you’re probably fine.

reading body language is about clusters of behaviours. You can never take any one thing as a cue without context (example, does someone have crossed arms because they’re defensive? Or is it just cold?)

Eye contact then looking down coyly is often a flirt, but then it’s usually accompanied by other things, a smile and so on.

I don't know how it is with other guys, but when it comes to me, they usually establish and maintain prolonged eye contact, and then one of us breaks eye-contact, and she establishes it again.

She laughs sometimes at something appropriate, but she's not smiling constantly through the interaction. she gets oiled an does nothing and leaves

This one is interesting because she's smiling easy and throughout, but her pose isn't much different than the other girls. Her hands arent' crossed guarding her genitals though, she's instead touching hands a lot. It's a nervous gesture. Again, she's doing the interview with a woman, not even the guy, but maybe the takeaway there is that there's nothing you can really say or do to change a woman's mind about sex, it's made up beforehand. I wouldn't say I get a great read on this girl though.

It's not perfect, but it is as close to it as it's gonna get, please read the book "Undercover Sex Signals: A Pickup Guide For Guys" by Leil Lowndes. I have found it to be a good first step to understanding many varied signals (modern day equivalent to potential "indicators of interest".)

If it's difficult for you to tell the difference in body language I think it's good to become the person, who's 'just being polite' and friendly yourself and see how your conversation goes. You could figure things out based on what she's saying, not just her body language. Don't be afraid to walk away after a friendly talk and don't push if you're not sure. Keep in mind how scary you may be to her. In this way it's not really a big deal if she wasn't initialy interested in you if it was just a casual talk without obvious intentions. Easy way to not seem creepy and to show more than just your looks.

As a woman, I do everything you said without any reason, really. I don't think there's a recepie and it's all context, situation and personality (maybe even age) based. You'd have to be more specific. Besides, maintaining eye contact is an important part of like every conversation. Looking away after a short eye contact is normal if you want to show, that it was accidental, because it's just weird to stare at strangers like you want to rob them xD

I will avoid looking at guys I am not interested in, but will look at, and then look away and smile to guys I am interested in. I will actively try to get a little eye contact in, but not full on staring.
