The Pew data study you are referring to has significant sampling issues. /u/ta06012022 has posted some excellent information about this. Here's one comment that goes into detail comparing this particular sampling set to the US Census (appears there were deletions but doubt it's about this comment breaking a rule so have replicated it below):

But that 2x deviation also isn't real. Pew hasn't published the underlying dataset for that July 2022 survey you referenced, but here are the underlying numbers from the February 2022 survey, which showed 57% of men were single.

Let's start by pointing out that a swing from 57% to 63% is less than 5 months is pretty dramatic and raises questions about margin of error. More importantly, the women in the Pew panel do not appear to be representative of the population at large. Here's a comparison to Census&cv=MAR,SEX(2)&wt=PWGTP) data for women 18-29:

Women Pew Feb 22 Census

Married 27% 18.6%

Living w/Partner 21% 14.7%

Committed Romantic Relationship 16% N/A

And the same comparison for men:

Men Pew Feb 22 Census

Married 16% 13.3%

Living w/partner 9% 12.7%

So according to Census data for people 18-29, 33.3% of women and 26.0% of men are married or living with a partner. According to Pew, 48% of women and 27% of men are married or living with a partner.

The male Pew numbers look fairly reasonable, but Pew seems to be oversampling young women in serious relationships (married, living together) by nearly 50%. That results in an illusion of a massive difference in the % of men vs. women in relationships. Such large sampling errors throw into question the reliability of the dataset.

The problem with this stat is that it’s saying for example women and men aged 19-29…it’s not taking into consideration that many women 25-29 are dating men outside of the age range in the survey, whereas most younger guys are not prime candidates for older women

I’d also say the other part is many women will say they are in a relationship but that guy she’s dating wouldn’t answer the same

Women tend to live longer and marry older men, so there is an excess number of elderly widows. Elderly single men who are interested in dating their peers do very well.

definitely checks out with what i am seeing in university in the west. at a time when the lying liberal media claims college is one big sex party, roughly 70% of the men i saw everyday around me never ever had a girlfriend or even female friend walking next to them in classes. they are either always alone or sitting or talking with men. in parties, they are also alone, and back on campus they are also alone (our doors were always open on campus). most of them also confirmed that they don't have a girlfriend or fuckbuddy.

meanwhile, 70%-80% of the women i see around me are attached. they are usually walking to classes with the boyfriend, in their campus rooms with their boyfriend, or eating wiht their boyfriend. in all my years in university i have only ever seen less than 5 women who were consistently single (but they probably had secret boyfriends i don't know).

this was a great puzzle to the men of the uni even at that time, we could not figure out how there could be more attached women than attached guys, those boyfriends did not look old either. however, the most obvious explanation, which should be obvious to anyone who goes to uni, is that they are all dating the same handsome men, either all at the same time and calling it 'situationships' to avoid the label of polygamy, or at different times and calling it 'serial monogamy' to avoid the label of polygamy. but it is essentially just polygamy.

contrary to what feminists say, women actually love polygamy and being in a harem. the very moment polygamy was 'abolished' by legal decree, women brought it back with greater force in the form of 'sugardaddying', situationships and serial monogamy. essentially nothing has changed except the words women use to describe polygamy. women are the main supporters of polygamy.

Ime the majority of surveys do not care if you are "in a relationship." That means very different things to different people, and these results would indicate that one's sex may play a role in the interpretation. Researchers generally want to know if you are married and/or living together. There is very little room for subjectivity or confusion there.

Like women love to say that they don't owe anything to society when people bring up the sexlessness of men. But is this argument going to hold weight if society is going toward a possible extinction ?

But to answer the question, it doesn't really surprise me. I am 24 but hey, no woman ever give me the time of the day. Many other dudes are the same boat as me.

Now it still doesn't answer how many women are in relationships meanwhile few men are. So maybe the definition of relationship is where lies the problem.

Because only a scenario where a man has a roster of 4-5 women will explain how many other men can't get a partner.

No one really know what that means…it could mean women are dating each other, that women are dating older men, and that women interpret being in a relationship different than men (e.g., he thinks it’s a situationship and she thinks it’s a relationship)…I haven’t seen any deeper studies on that statistic

Where do you get the 70/30 statistic from? The pew research is close to that and you would do good in citing the real values instead of rounding to more extremes. Also, this has been "debunked" as a sample anomaly by other census-type data of a larger, more representative sample.

Yes, there are statistics for all age groups and you should try learning how to look these up for yourself instead of asking a super biased community about the real state of the world.

The data you are talking about reaches parity. 30+ men and women are in relationships at similar percentages.

The reason the data is so skewed is because of the way the question was asked. It asked if people were in 'committed relationships'. Now, having been in my 20s, I would have been classified as 'single' for most of it despite fucking everything that moved. I was 'single' for most of my 20s.

Now, think of society. Allow me to suggest that even with all this feminism about women would tend to look for monogamous relationships and guys in their 20s don't give a fuck.

You have even broke girls who don't want to date broke guys. They are looking for the guys with money, who are also being looked after by girls with money who can never even look at guys without money. Whereas the guys with money have access to both girls with money and girls without money. And guys without money who aren't handsome (80% of guys) are hence totally locked out of the dating world

It's just modern polygamy in action - some things can't be abolished. They are just natural, evolutionary. All women want the best for themselves, without lowering of standards and this means sharing the few men who meet those standards

Also women are loyal, considering they don't want to piss the guy who just met the standards she was looking for. Whereas the guys with money (who some could be married) feel entitled and they hence have a lot of women as girlfriends or sidechicks. So you find that one financially successful guy has like 8 girlfriends, all whom are loyal to him.

There is no missing piece of data. You're attempting to compare the current dating market which is new, with older people that went through a completely different dating market.

This imbalance is going to play out for generations going forward. there will always be a lot of single men going forward, because more and more women would rather stay single than 'settle' with someone they arent attracted to (a large majority of men)

I know women who I was in FWB with who were telling people we were in a relationship. Which was news to me. Men and women have different definitions of what they consider a relationship.

Those numbers and the way the questions were asked in that survey are pure BS.

And the “sharing” top guys is just as big a BS as the rest. Yes you may have the rare case of a guy cheating and maintaining multiple relationships (key word being relationship, in other words not booty calls), but that is very very rare and not sustainable. I’ve tried it in my 20s, and went back to a single partner within 3 weeks, just too much of a hassle and exhausting maintaining multiple relationships.

Probably the biggest factor other than the way they cut off age groups in that survey, is not diving into what men and women understand from the word “relationship”, the only explanation to that impossible 70/30 is that women think they’re in a relationship while their partner (the guy they think they’re in a relationship with) doesn’t look at it as a relationship, just a booty call or friend with benefits situation.
