They on the whole have a time limit. The men get tired of dint see them as visible life partners to settle and have family with. I have seen this with female friends in their mid to late thirties who were involved with men in their late twenties and early thirties. In the end the men moved on to women their own age or younger and committed to them. So on the whole there is a greater risk in it for the older woman who may have a greater time pressure.

Presumably it's similar to the opposite: Older guys dating younger women. If you are a successful older woman, odds are you are wealthy, interesting conversation partner, with an interesting social circle, interesting holidays, etc.

This can be attractive to younger guys. Not merely for the wealth but also because typically successful people are interesting people with interesting lives (again, typically, not always. Plenty of unsuccessful great people, and successful shitty/boring people).

Depending on his age, this could be a massive type of manipulation that could be unhealthy for the guy. It’s still a power imbalance.

I’m 40 but look 25-28. look young. I recently went to hospital and the Drs kept double checking my birth year and commenting that I did not look like I matched my DOB. Anyway, I have dated men 12 years younger, and one was keen on marriage but also wanted children and I’m too old for that. I’ve noticed it’s men a good decade younger who approach me in public. There’s someone in my life who is a good 6 years younger than me, who really wants to date me. I’m hesitant even though he’s great, just because of the age gap.

And men my age? They don’t want to know. They don’t interact or approach me in public and I definitely get skipped over on dating apps. Rarely does anyone in my age bracket like my profile on Hinge. It’s always younger or a fair bit older.

I actually want to date a man my age as I don’t trust the longevity with a younger man and I also found them a tad emotionally immature or not able to get some cultural references. But yeah, men in my age bracket tend to be grossed out by my age I think, even though I look a lot younger. Nothing has changed about women's biology overall. Childbearing still become difficult by mid 30's and impossible by mid 40's. So women lose a certain level of attractiveness to most men because of that. However, it does seem like in the last 50 years or so, humans have really started to age more slowly and look better for their age for a variety of reasons.

Women in their 30's and 40's will still have handicaps compared to younger women, and will not have the same experience as a woman in their 20's. That said, it doesn't mean all dating is over and nobody at all wants them. It's just gets more difficult, but how much also depends a lot of the woman's appearance, how well she takes care of herself, her personality, life situation, etc. It could get a lot more difficult, or only a little bit.

In the end, I agree generally that lots of women can still date and find happy relationships in their 30's and 40's, and I don't think it's necessary to make women feel like it's all over at 30 or something because it's usually not.

Younger men dating older women happens frequently here in Germany but it's not due to younger men's preference, it's because of the rising physical and social standards of younger women. Most younger German men don't fit that standard so if they want consistent sex they have to settle down with an average to below average younger women, travel overseas to get higher quality women women or severly lower their standards and date fat or older women.
