Well pregnancy and childcare are pretty big reasons. As well as financial security if she gets busy raising kids. STDs. Social pressure of finding “the one” is still very prevalent. Commitment usually comes with nice perks like having a wedding date or travel partner. Commitment means, theoretically, he won’t vanish or ghost tomorrow. first, to clear a couple things up from your post: i don’t want commitment from just any man, but a man i love or could potentially love. he doesn’t need to be rich- i don’t give a flying fuck about that. and men who want commitment aren’t unicorns. a lot of men want relationships, families, marriage, etc.

what i want in commitment is a partner for life and someone i feel confident raising a family with. i believe two parent households are the best to raise children in. outside of that, i like being in love. i like loving and taking care of someone. it’s really that simple.

Same reason many men want commitment. Why are we acting like women are the only ones who want commitment? Commitment provides structure and security in one’s life. Knowing that someone will always be there for you is comforting. Having someone to form a lifelong bond with is fulfilling. It’s not a prize. Men don’t give us commitment. Commitment is mutual and both parties should want it. Commitment is when you choose to dedicate yourself to a relationship within reason (like you shouldn’t tolerate abuse). Commitment is especially needed to raise a child, because a stable and happy household is what’s best for them. What does commitment get you?

Commitment is security in every way, as in both for emotional reasons and practical reasons. No one wants to be heart broken or left in a bad spot. Apply it to a platonic relationship: would you want to be friends with someone who you suspect will fuck you over in some way? Would that be enjoyable in any way? Hell no!

What is it?

To me, commitment means you will finish what you start, and that you will do what you say you'll do. It means you're not flaky or flighty or unreliable. It also means that you want to be doing what you're doing, not just going through the motions to placate someone. It means you won't betray or abandon something. It's loyalty and dedication.

Why is it so valuable to you?

A relationship without commitment is toxic and detrimental. It's better to be alone than deal with that. It is the very thing that gives a relationship value.

You are as smart or smarter than a man and can earn just as much money as a man, so why do all women want to find a rich husband?

Not all women want to find a rich husband. I mean, it would be nice, but it's not like that's what we all really look for. But such a question has an obvious answer. Just look at what money can do for you in this world. I'd love to be able to travel, to eat amazing food every day, to have a beautiful house, etc. I wouldn't say no to those things, but it's not something I require.

Also, being as smart and as capable as a man isn't really relevant. If that's all it took to get rich, wealth disparity would not be what it is. It's not remotely a ticket to riches. So much of wealth comes from luck.

Clearly, commitment is one of the things only a man can give you.

People can want different things at different times. I went through times where I wasn’t at all interested in commitment but enjoyed the occasional connections, emotional, mental and physical. This happened more in my 20s when I was preoccupied with developing my career aka independence.

I evolved and once my career got solidified and I knew I could sustain myself alone, then I was ready to welcome a man into my life but only with commitment which was two fold on why commitment:

I worked hard to be a woman of value. Thus I only seek men of value. Combining your talents and resources can elevate you both. You will miss out on that when you spread your goods around.
The biological clock is real and some women just get hit with the limited time thus seek that man who will provide both emotionally during the pregnancy time and afterwards, yes even financially to a point of security.

A relationship/commitment is agreeing to lean on each other for a variety of things, and depending on the relationship these items can be the same or different. If a woman is financially dependent on a man, but she gives him a family and stays home to take care of that family, that is an even trade of responsibility to the relationship. I require commitment because of a few reasons. My first reason is because being a wife is important to me for sentimental, religious, and societal perception. Having a man that is committed to me makes my life easier in many ways, I currently work because I want to but I enjoy knowing that I could quit and be taken care of. Or if I were to not be able to work I’d also be fine. If I were to change my mind about having children I’d rather be able to spend as much time with my children without needing to stress about money, having commitment from a man helps with that. Basically, it improves my life.

I am not really sure how to answer, I just want to share my life with someone. My achievements, their achievements, exploring our different interests together, teaching each-other things, someone to make dinner with, take walks with, take care of each other when we are sick, have sex with, watching them grow as a person, help and watch them work towards their goals, dreams and purpose, adapting to each others life changes and so on.

But also allows us to have friends, take the time we may need here and there for ourselves and not require me to be on beckon hand and knee.

I want someone who sees how my qualities and skills as a women pair with theirs as a man and that is a symbiotic relationship of mutualism. Appreciates me for my cooking, baking, sewing, and my caregiving abilities, and such but also will help when I can’t a meal here or there, or helps me with prep work, and not treat me awful when I am not “perfect”.

I want something genuine that gives me security, stability, and safety, respect, and love.

Which are things I can get from friends (have friends who want to buy a home with me… we shall see) and family.

I do not need financial support, and have given the thought of going it alone as I can afford IVF and a surrogate (I physically can not have children). I only want a one child.

I actually tend to date men with less income then me.

And have honestly have the worst experiences with the “high value” rich men some women so deeply desire.

To also be fair I have my own issues. Whereas I am a bit insecure around my health, I have 15-20 years to live due to a genetic condition (also why I would go with a surrogate and require genetic testing of the father to make sure the gene doesn’t pass on), so the way I look at is is 15-20 years of possible commitment.

This may that be someone who is around for ten and another person around for another ten years or the same person for the entire 15-20, who knows. They can go do whatever they want after I pass, I want nothing but the best for them.

I have come to terms with my shorter then most lifespan.

I am also lucky this condition keeps me looking like ten years younger then I am and thin. It requires me to stay active for my motility and to keep my joints in top top shape. Minus the health stuff, I am physically rather confident, i am rather cute, have a a flat stomach minus some surgical scars, great legs and ass, and love my breasts, and have no trouble getting men. I am also well read, and can hold a conversation.

I just enjoy sex and time with people I can build some sort of emotional connection with. And do not enjoy casual sex or dating.

I just ended things with my RP man, and discussed maybe seeing where we both are in a few months and if it possibly could work out down the line, due to our own life stressors (him making a career change, me starting up a second business). We had love for each other.

But right now honestly, I just want to focus on myself, reading more, hiking more, playing more chess, and so on. And not having to split my energy (that I don’t have if I’d even have if I also wanted to keep my hobbies, thanks to my slowly failing organ systems) on child rearing, cleaning an entire house myself, fulfilling emotional needs, and being a mother to a child while also possibly the man I committed too.

So, I giving myself another six months to a year of me time. Then I am I’ll go back out there trying to do my best looking for a partner I am compatible with or to lock down for an extended period of time and possibly even marriage (there are financial/healthcare securities there to consider) if we are into it, and seek “commitment” and if not in five I will go it alone for the last 10-15 years of my life.

Rather long response, probably does NOT fully answer your question, but that’s MY personal reason. I believe a lot of people have different reasons especially since I don’t live a normie life, have had to accept death, financially secure, and cute.

Personally I really like my independence (financial, home, community). But STD wise it's too risky to not be in a committed relationship. People will say they are being "safe" but we all know people who have slip ups, etc. and there are STDs even with protection you can be gifted...Women are also more at risk of receiving and contracting STDs (since some you can't really be tested for)

With all that said I'd say yes, it's possible to feel secure (financially, emotionally, career-wise and in yourself) and have a strong community without a partner... but then you might eventually question your need of having a partner at all... more like a committed FWB who you see occasionally seems like a better set up.

Also if you and a partner make about the same or close to, chances your taxes will go up... as will your home labor (if it's man)... so I'm not sure where the benefit it is unless you want children (and want added security) .

Another reason is it still isn't as easy for women to become rich as it is for men.

It's good for relieving any residual guilt around having enjoyed sex.

A lot of women believe all kids deserve fathers. In their homes and lives.

All else being equal, being on one's own doesn't have nearly as much to recommend it.

Commitment essentially catered to women only as it ensured their survival. Men necessarily didn't need commitment as they were the providers and could get easy access to sex. The deal was as a man, he would provide financial resources and safety in exchange for sexual exclusivity.

Women technically don't need commitment in today's society as they can go out and make their own. Now days commitment is primarily for sexual benefits as women reduce their chances of getting an STD. For men commitment insures a man access to sex as women now have more options to choose a mating partner(s). The second reason is having children.

I don't think all women do. As the wage gap has trended towards balancing so has the wage gap in marriage. You still have traditional which may be looking to be a SAHM but in the bigger picture there are fewer and fewer as time goes on. Transitioning from one system of relationships or marriage to another isn't a snap of the fingers, its something that happens over decades.

There is still an issue in the lower wage scales - I think some of which can be attributed to sharing that load still means fiscal stress. There is a baseline cost of living, someone who makes 30k and someone who makes 60k, the 60k person has a lot more than double the disposable income, as you make more everything is just relatively cheaper. Fiscal stress is a mood killer.

My partner makes more than me. he's also 16 years older and made comparable when he was 16 years younger, we met at work and do the same work. While he technically makes more than me, also not really. It wasn't his money that attracted me, it was him. He will retire early, and I'll certainly be making more then.

It’s because commitment usually(not always) comes with a huge level of investment. Whether it be emotional, social, sexual or financial. Men give more to women they’re committed to vs women they aren’t. This is also very important if you want kids. You want him to be invested in you and what comes out of you so your kids have a stable father figure.

You can do it yourself but it’s more fun and less stress to do it with someone else. For me, I’m capable of doing all the above and have done it for myself. However I saw the lives of women with well off husbands and preferred how they were living vs single moms or women with poor husbands. So I curated my dating standards accordingly.

Commitment is important to me for multiple reasons. I would like to be a mother one day and being able to maintain a happy, healthy and loving marriage is important for being able to give my kids the best childhood i can. Another reason is because knowing that no matter what life throws our way, my husband and i will always be there for each other is a source of comfort to me.

I am providing hospice care to a dying extended relative so their family can get rest. My partner has been supportive throughout and doing small things like ordering me food for a favorite place and snuggling with me during this time.

He could have very easily lied to his parents (was boy at the time and he’s gay and his parents didn’t know) but he didn’t, never really put much effort into seeing me. I wasn’t surprised when I found out he was only dating me to have sex with me:( but commitment is a good indicator of weather someone is interested

Because if he’s not committing then why should I be exclusive? If he’s not okay with FWB, yet can’t commit, then I’m out of there lol
