And I also wouldn’t say that straight men don’t have an issue with bi women. A majority of women that I’ve dated have been bisexual. I have friends who are bi. All have shared experiences with me about men either fetishizing them for being bi, being distrustful/accusing them of cheating or generally just unaccepting of their lifestyle.

I think there's more stigma against gay sex than there is lesbian sex. There's no beliefs that a woman having sex with a woman is "degrading" in the same way it exists for two men. Men get taunted with gay themed insults even when homosexuality isn't suspected.

Lesbian sex also seems to get dismissed a lot as not counting as real sex. For example when people talk about losing virginity, they usually think of penetration. Girls casually experimenting with each other is fantasized.

It's definitely a matter of outdated gender roles/expectations and homophobia, I think. Only because these are women it doesn't mean they aren't capable of it. I do have "some" insecurities or concerns in regards to bi men as well (more risk of a STD, "is he actually just gay" "am I enough" etc.) but this doesn't mean this stops me from being open to date them. I'm not sure that they do, the rejection just comes in more typical ways for men and women - bi women are rejected for serious relationships and considered "sex only", whereas bi men's time isn't wasted by any women who don't want them. Ask any bi woman and she'll tell you that her sexuality gives her a lot of problems in straight dating. I think it's just stereotypes of men and women + inaction leading to misunderstandings.

If a women for example were to grope another women, in most cases nothing happens. This inaction by everyone involved leads to it being acceptable despite it being sexual assault. It probably stems from wrong ideas of women being viewed as less sexual in nature despite them being heavily sexualized.

Meanwhile a man who likes men is viewed as feminine. Some People don't want to go through negative traits associated with femininity ( like submissiveness which is somehow a feminine trait, idk why. It's just weird.) and so tend to avoid them. There's also the other stigma of men being unable to keep it in their pants, this means that a bisexual man might face more temptation and have a high chance to cheat.

My opinion: men aren’t threatened by their female partner engaging in sexual activities with another female (ie she ain’t gonna get pregnant, he’ll still know the child was his). there are honestly a few reasons. But to sum up one:

Gender norms are pushed on men a bit more. If a man is bi but can get away with only doing it with women and ignoring the other side of his sexuality, he might, just because he doesn’t want to deal with the fallout.

Vs if a man has much stronger urges towards other men, he’s going to have to be at least somewhat out about it if he wants to comfortably live his truth. A lot of gay men start with identifying as bi. It’s a softer launch and doesn’t feel like as big of a blow in terms of the masculinity culture.

Some people say that men are more likely to be either gay or straight with women in between, but it could very well just be this situation^{^} causing us to form those stereotypes. You hear about a lot more men leaving their wives for men than women doing it for women. The way things are has caused women to be a bit apprehensive.

I mean... I dated a woman who had been with girls/women before. It didn't do anything positive for me, and sex outside of marriage wasn't on the table for where we both were at that point in life. Read the username, advertising bi-sexual as if it was a positive feature for a relationship is basically a non-starter. Otherwise, my only concern was trajectory; everyone's got a past.

I've only anecdotal evidence to support your claim about double-standards. If it's true, then it must be that men who sexually engage other men are perceived as lesser- or non-men by women on a hierarchy of masculinity. Specifically, the emotional gut-reaction that one might have been... well, "catching," and that makes him less dominant.

That's the best I can come up with, unflattering as it may be. It gets fairly muddled when there's a specific segment of women that seems to reaaally enjoy male-on-male romance stories. But when that fantasy/kink turns into male-on-female reality, "being dominated" is still the most common fantasy listed by women.

Biphobia and bi erasure. Straight people often believe that bi women are actually just straight and looking for attention or going through some phase, whereas bi men are often believed to just be gay and not willing to admit it.

Depends greatly on the person, their preferences and sexuality. Me for example would not have a problem dating a bisexual man (I'm bisexual myself).

I'm not sure if this is one theory but perhaps some straight women want masculine men and non-straight men are usually viewed as feminine (stereotypes yk)?

There’s more of an general stigma toward gay and bi men than lesbian and bi women, it’s not just women not wanting to date bi men. That’s only one symptom of it. I would guess this is for the same reason it’s considered acceptable for women to wear men’s clothes but shameful for men to wear women’s clothes. Anything associated with women and femininity has historically been considered inferior and associated with weakness. Sex with men is one of those things, especially being penetrated. This is one of the ways misogyny and internalized misogyny hurts men too. So many men want to denigrate women and femininity but then don’t like it when they’re expected to live up to a restrictive masculine ideal. Can’t have it both ways.

Good news is that the stigma seems to be going away quite a bit. More and more men are coming out as bi, including those who generally prefer women, and more women are dating them. I am dating one of those men myself.

For starters, a lot of (mostly straight) men see bisexual women as lesbian liteTM- a woman who prefers other women more likely but you could still smash because men are easier to find as romantic/sexual partners. Plus, watching her with someone. Also, threesomes- very much a fetishized thing. Meanwhile, lesbians tend to have the opposite view of bi women- kinda like how some men prefer virgins, some lesbians also prefer women who have never taken a dick.

I have met plenty of women who accept bi men. I have also encountered some who fetishize it. When it comes to fetishizing someone’s identity I leave that moral call on the people in the situation and shut my mouth unless it makes me overly uncomfortable.

Some background I also see as useful from history and my own experience:

My mother is bi. She lived through the AIDS epidemic and watched her friends die. Some of those were people she had slept with- “sexuality was just different then, we were all fucking regardless of our preference” kinda thing.

When I was 19 I told her I was dating a bi man and she panicked. She had always been adamant with me about using condoms, but this time she said that bi men are the carriers of HIV to women. I learned about internalized biphobia later on and it helped me make sense of things a little more. I didn’t buy into what she said then and I certainly don’t now. I prefer my men as fruity as I am, and as sexually responsible- let’s get tested together!

The issue is the AIDS crisis of the 1980s. Before that bi men had a completely position in society. Famous Poets, Movie stars, leaders were different degrees of open and view semi neutral. Why because their other partner wouldn't give them a baby.

So common it was joke about English school boys.
