People want to have the best of 2 worlds. The caveat here is that I don't think you have to be sexist to be dominating in bed or to provide for your partner, whether we're talking about malevolent or benevolent sexism. Moreover, I think there are traditional couples who are not sexist. I guess you can have a traditional lifestyle without viewing women as inferior beings.

On a side note, quite a lot of men pursue or implement a flipped version of what you're describing. They want to have a liberal woman with liberal values around sex...but with low n-count. A woman who works and brings home a paycheck, but also does more chores and childrearing.

If you give a woman benevolent masculine provision and protection, the healthy response from her would be joyful submissive femininity. Both sides win. Alas both genders are sick and don't know what the ideal even looks like, let alone know the steps to get there and how to check their own bullshit in service of that. Both genders have cravings for the natural order of things but then bring their brainwashing and generational trauma into the equation to the point it's hard to figure out what's what. Men too want the lady in the streets, whore in the sheets, 50/50 split but maternal bang maid, happy with no commitment but loyal unicorn. It's both sides that are deranged.

Women require some overt masculine traits because otherwise they're not attracted at all, but want to simultaneously keep their independence because they don't trust that a man can do right by them if they were to be more vulnerable. Conversely men want traditionally feminine traits while simultaneously not wanting to fully invest themselves as they don't want all their energy and effort to be taken advantage of. So now we have this dogs breakfast mishmash nightmare of confusion, hypocrisy and contradiction. Happy trails 😜

Eh, I disagree.

I think most women enjoy chivalry but not when it results in a lack of respect toward women.

If you hold doors open for me, work as the breadwinner, and I’m the housewife, that doesn’t give you the ethical right to dismiss everything I say, demand sex at the drop of a hat regardless of how I feel, and spend all your free time (outside of sex) ignoring me.

That’s the position a lot of housewives were in throughout history.

Woman wants to spend more quality time with her husband because he goes golfing every weekend? “I’m the breadwinner so shut up and stop whining.”

Woman asks her husband to stop dragging mud on freshly-mopped floors? “I’m the breadwinner so shut up and stop whining.”

Woman feels sick and doesn’t want to give a blowjob that day? “I’m the breadwinner so shut up and get on your knees.”

This is why women naturally started rejecting men as breadwinners. This is why women entered the job market in earnest with the goal of financial independence. If men can use “I’m the breadwinner, I’m the dominant one” as an excuse for poor behavior and mistreatment, then women have zero choice but to reject traditional gender roles.

I think women love dominant men and love following the lead. Unfortunately, a lot of dominant men use their role to be cruel and disrespectful and women have no choice but to reject it.

I think that contrary to men's beliefs, it's very easy to be seen as masculine, dominant, confident to women. Small gestures and proximity are great manipulators.

Being able to financially provide is more of a social norm these days, and while there are outliners, men also seem to be less attracted to a woman they deem less normative in a functional society (like not having a HS diploma, not being able to hold a job)

I wouldn't call it 'sexual domination' either. Both men and women seem to be equally attracted to passionate gestures. However, considering the natural positions women and men find themselves, or expected to find themselves during sex, women fantasize being on the receiving end of passionate gestures more.

Women ideally want the freedom to pursue a career or do whatever while also feeling secure that their partner can provide for both of them (but many will happily settle for less in the current economy).

I would say this is an accurate way to describe my fiancé. We have a relationship where he is a dominant one, a provider, but nowhere near sexist or misogynistic. He respects me and my opinions, has pretty liberal views as well as I do, but we chose to have a traditional style relationship because we feel the most comfortable in those roles.

Here’s the thing too - most people end up moving toward their natural set of gender roles regardless, most men want to dominate and take care of their women, and most women want to be involved with the home far more (not strictly being housewives or SAHMs, to be clear, even amongst working women then tend to prioritize a work-life balance and more home time than men), and actively nurture it from within. I don’t think it’s misogynistic in the slightest, and just simply most people following their course.

i associate that with just being a gentlemen but today i learned that some women don’t want or expect these things. this is always something i’ve expected and gotten from my BF and past partners. i would’ve not entered a relationship if a man didn’t do these things and i agree that the rules are skewed in that regard. but i have also never met a man who didn’t do these things already, nor have they had an issue with it.

and aside from the complete financial providing because we both work and are in school and split our dates probably 60/40. he takes the lead on that because that’s his choice. and no to the dominance thing because we’re both switches in many ways him or i can take the lead. i think it all evens out and we both feel very free and in our respective roles but that looks different for different people.
