I don't buy into the modern belief that people have to be 100% secure in themselves all the time or that's some kind of character flaw. Everyone has insecurities, the problem is when it goes into severe neurosis for no reason. I'm sure the gf and the women would have a different tune if the man was laughing and making "jokes" about how he would like to get with a hot younger pornstar with a huge rack.

Anyway for me personally I would not be super happy because that's an issue of mine, insecurity on appearance, I am working on and she would know that. I mean, that's an asshole thing to do to someone you're dating. People check each other out, but to say that out-loud is awful and hurtful and bound to make the other person feel insecure about themselves and the relationship unless it's handled in an incredibly tactful manner (which this was clearly not).

Unless that's your relationship, to be clear. Some couples really are like this and joke this way. And some couples are still figuring the boundaries out and that often happens from conflict like this or repeated conflict. It's valid to want to tell jokes like this, it's' valid to not want jokes like this told. Just gotta find your person.

I think there’s a certain level of insecurity that’s normal and acceptable vs. not. In this example, I think it’s perfectly valid to not be ok with your partner verbally putting you down in comparison to some stranger. The action itself is causing the insecurity. I saw a TikTok recently where a guy got very angry and verbally berated his partner because a game warden had driven by and smiled at her. That would be an example of insecurity that’s not acceptable. Neither party did anything abnormal to cause it, that insecurity is something he’s projecting.

Part of the reason why people want relationships is for security. The idea of having someone who will be loyal and stay with you through thick and thin is really attractive. However humans are not inherently good, and often are deceptive and selfish, thus it is wise to be aware of possible betrayals and to not ignore potential dangers to yourself and to your relationship. If there are dangers that are not being addressed and handled, then it is natural to not feel secure in the relationship. Sometimes that is due to delusion and personal issues, but sometimes it is due to noticing a legitimate problem. People who are selfish and deceptive like to conflate and gaslight others about legitimate problems just being in your head by calling both insecurity.

You have to understand that a lot of the time when women accuse men of being insecure it's not actually a factual observation, it's just low effort easy hit to most men's egos that'll leave a substantial bruise. In the same way criticizing a woman's looks is an easy way to make her feel self-conscious.

If you find it disrespectful and tacky for the person you're with to make those kinds of comments, you're not insecure, but you might get called insecure because people don't like being called out and it's an easy insult towards men.

Even if you actually are insecure about those kinds of comments, there's nothing inherently bad about that. Insecurities are normal, we all have them to some extent. You're not less of a man for having a normal human emotion. If the person you're with deliberately digs at your insecurities, you tell them you won't have it and you leave them if they don't stop.

But they'll still try to insult, belittle, and label you a weak insecure man because you hurt them by calling out their behavior, so they want to hurt you back. Women are especially good at this because in the same way it's easy for us to see what they're insecure about, they know what we're insecure about.

Once you understand this is what's happening, you get more at ease with not taking these kinds of comments seriously, or accepting this kind of behavior from people in your life, it's just playground insults.

My own wife carried this double standard for a long time where she was free to comment on men and women out in public but would literally give me the silent treatment if I so much as looked at a woman. Even literally once saying, "Its okay for me to comment on her boobs because its different."

We’ve all checked other people out before, we’ve all fantasized about others when masturbating in a relationship and we’ve all watched porn when in a relationship too. This is all normal and it’s something everyone has done and will do. Same double standard causes some nasty women to believe they can put their hands on men without consent, because they assume men are always up for sex, that men are always fine with sexual contact regardless of context. Women say and do inappropriate sexual things because they believe it's "their turn" to make men feel awkward and ashamed.

As far the revenge thing, this has been brewing for a couple centuries. Women have always been loudly judged and appraised, they think it's funny to put me through the insecurity cycle men have long put women through.

It is okay if my gf made such comments and it's quite common for us to do so. I also do not think it's insecurity about penis size in your example, but insecurity about interest in another man. Most men are insecure about their status as a partner and any kind of signal that says "my girl does actually see other men and is not completely blind to all my competitors out there" sends them into insecurity-land.

Those same men label men who are not insecure and don't feel threatened by competitors as "cucks". Because this way they can remove this issure from the secure<->insecure axis and put it on a "respect my boundaries"<->"cucks" axis, which has them painted in a way better light.

Another common distraction is to attack by saying "everything is called insecure by women to shame men into accepting their behavior". And men who agree that it is insecure are then called "whiteknights".

It's all in an attempt to discredit any source that calls them insecure, because somehow this is seen as the greatest failing and sign of immasculinity.

Insecure means, not secure in your own view of your value as being high enough to secure your partner to your side. Insecurity is the result of low self-esteem and a negative inner voice about yourself.

This is where it’s depends on the couple.

You can make flirty suggestive comments about someone of the opposite sex that you both know your never going to meet, and you also both know your partner would never cheat, so even if they actually met that person, it would be a polite conversation and nothing more. This is a healthy couple.

Then you’ve got a couple that one of them makes a flirty/suggestive comment about the opposite sex snd the other instantly makes it about them. Either starts comparing themselves or believe their partner wants to cheat. This is insecure and usually part of a mental health issue. They either start controlling their partner through manipulation tactics, eg it’s disrespectful of you to look at/talk to other men. Or they start becoming overly clingy. Either way they end up pushing their partner away.

That being said, does the one making a flirty/suggestive comment do it all the time? Do they have a history of cheating? Are they deliberately try to manipulate their partner into being more jealous in which case, its also a meant health problem.

It 100% depends on the couple and what they’re comfortable with in their relationship. In my relationship, we’re both bi, and we tend to point out hot people to each other. Now what we do not do is negatively compare each other’s bodies (“why don’t you hit the gym and look more like that?” or “ever thought of getting implants?”). Being upset about that sort of remark is totally justified and not insecure. It’s also okay for people to be uncomfortable with their partner openly checking out other people as long as they hold themselves to the same standards.

I think they feel objectified. Contrary to popular belief on here it's not nice for men to feel they and other men have been reduced to a collection of parts. It's a common scenario for women to be called insecure in the same scenario and now the shoe is on the other foot.

It totally depends on the relationship dynamic.

If the couple is happy and they enjoy banter like this, such comments (in moderation!) can spice things up.

However, if the couple is in a difficult place (e.g. after a figh) it can come across as hurtful and aggressive.

If a person is constantly anxious in a relationship, that's neither healthy nor attractive.
