Since this is a repost from two days ago, here's a repost of my reply.

What this figure omits is that 68% of rapes are never reported to police.

Uhhhhhh.....

Well yes, if you include alleged assaults that were never reported to police, yeah, your number of convictions are going to look tiny.

But wait, it gets better. You see, if you look at the National Crime Victimization Survey which RAINN pulled it's numbers from, and you use the latest copy (which they didn't do), there's two very interesting numbers.

On page 7, you'll see that only 33% of Rape/Sexual Assault is reported to police. Keep in mind that they do not separate the genders in this data for who reported Rape/Sexual assault, so let's just drop the 'women are the only ones getting raped' diatribe.

Next, on page 14, we see that only 53% of that figure is actual attempted or completed rape. The other 47% is comprised unwanted touching and threats.

So, in the year 2014, approximately 150,420 people (not just women) reported Rape/Sexual Assault. But breaking down the numbers, only 53% of those were actually rape, so now we're down to 79,722. The US census puts the approximate population of the US at the end of 2014 to be 320,087,963. That gives us a final number of 0.02%.

That's right folks, approximately 0.02% of people in the US are raped every year.

It's a goddamn epidemic.^{^/s}

I'm not making any excuses for rapists. But I'll damn well blame victims that complain about lack of rapists being brought up on charges when less than half are ever reported, and the figures feminists are using include mere threats.

The police can only do their job to help you if you do your duty as a citizen and report crime when it occurs.

A few years ago I saw an article that tried to calm the fears of men being falsely accused of rape by comparing the likelyhood of it in relation to being struck by lightning.

Someone responded to that article by pointing out that using the logic (I use that term loosely) of the original author and showed that the likelyhood of a woman being raped as FAR less than being struck by lightning based on the number of women who have sex, how many times they have sex and the number of rapes (including the 9 out of 10 rapes are not reported) that occur.

Maybe if more rape victims pressed charges right away, that number of incarcerations would be higher. Most rapes happen at the hands of someone who knows the victim, whether the victim is male or female. Most rapes aren't carried out by a random person you've never met. But we're not allowed to say this, because everyone accuses you of blaming the victim or putting the onus on the victim. This isn't about victim-blaming. Saying that you should report any other crime if you want to see the criminal put away isn't victim blaming; rape shouldn't be seen any differently.

Of couse women have a small chance of getting killed by sharks, most of them have never even seen a shark in real life, if you wanted a more accurate comparison the correct thing to do would be to compare the number of interactions between women and sharks, looking at the percentage of how many of those end in death, to the number of interactions between women and men, looking at the percentage of how many of those end in rape.

But we are putting a lot of money on a lot of stupid places, my country doesn't really have that shark problem though but we spend tons of money trying to find terrorists in peoples love mail on facebook. Criminal men DO do more harm to women than sharks do. Criminals who rape women are frequently not prosecuted due to the victim's fear/shame and even if they are, the crime is INSANELY difficult to prove in a court of law. Plenty of rapists aren't punished appropriately under the law and that is a problem. A person who commits a crime deserves whatever punishment the law defines for that crime.

What does this have to do with men's rights though? Is it a "man's right" to murder sharks unjustifiably when they're not really a threat? Is it a man's right to rape a woman and also face less scrutiny than these innocent wild animals? I don't understand what is being presented here and how it has anything to do with any gendered issues that men face or any civil right which is being denied to any man anywhere.
