Jewel died today. We don't know why.

She was "right as rain," as the old farmers say, this morning when we went to put out hay. She and Babygirl and Juno were all loafing in the big pile of hay left behind from the last round bale. I joked that she was chewing cud like it was her job. Later she got up and ate with the other cows when we put the new bale out. She didn't seem "off" at all, and the rest of the herd was fine too.

We came home; I went in to work and when my man went back to do evening chores she was down, bloated, and died minutes later. We have no idea what caused her to bloat so suddenly, and none of the other cows seemed to be affected (thank God).

I'm terrified as to what we'll find when we go out in the morning.

My man said poor Juno was bellowing for his momma. I had told him to put him in the barn with Babygirl and Lil so he wouldn't see the backhoe when it came to bury her.

It was a beautiful, warm, sunny fall day here. She picked a good day to die.

Some can decide they want to try to be more fair to help others around them, but being selfish and taking advantage of an edge one has is a really common default for many people.

In light of the current pitbull controversy, I’m going to present some fun statistics for interested parties.

Yesterday someone made the comparison between the fear of pitbulls and the fear of men. I figured I’d compare relevant statistics!

In 2019, the US was home to 4.5 million pitbulls. In 2019, 33 people were killed by pitbulls and pitbull mixes. That means, assuming all those deaths were 1 dog per 1 victim, 0.00073% of American pitbulls caused the death of a person in America.

On the other hand, in 2019 there were 161.69 million men in America. Of those men, 10,335 willfully (not negligently or accidentally) killed at least one person. That means 0.00639% of men in America deliberately killed another person in America.

Do with that information what you will. I’m not defending the spread of misinformation about pitbulls that has resulted in preventable deaths. I’m not saying men should be muzzled or put down. All I’m saying is that statistically speaking the comparison reflects more poorly on the humans than the dogs.

The spread of misinformation and lack of breeder regulation are far more dangerous than individual dogs and owners. I’m not saying everyone should get pitbulls—I’m actually of the opposite opinion. People should have easier access to solid, reputable sources of information about potential pets and breeders should be much more cautious when selecting owners for their pups.

At the end of the day, there are real benefits to owning a large dog. A healthy, well trained, properly handled large dog is statistically quite safe to own and can provide a strong deterrent against robbery, an exercise buddy, and potentially (with more extensive training and particularly good temperament) a strong service animal should the owner need one.

While I tend to be hard on people who get a dog without understanding the amount of work required to properly handle one, the assumption that the dog won’t hurt you is (statistically speaking) a safe one.

My female friend had a real great date on Friday night with a guy she’s been talking to on and off for a couple of months. They decided to go on a date, this is their second time hanging out. The guy took her to a fancy restaurant, spent she estimates over 200 dollars. They slept together that night. The next day they texted pretty regularly in the morning and she was very happy and excited. She kept talking about the date with me.

Looking back I always take solace in the fact that any man I’ve been with can never truthfully say I was easy to obtain or get. They all had to put in work lol a lot even said they questioned if I even liked them at one point. Also I’ve never sent any nudes so they really can’t have anything to share about me at all.
