I politely told him that I was not interested and that I did not appreciate his obvious disrespect of my age preference, (aka I caught him manipulating the age filter so he should stop trying that). I dated a scrote deeply entrenched in the polyamorous/Burning Man community. It's full of some of the most broken, dysfunctional, ugly, drug addicted people in costume I've ever met (and I adore Mardi Gras, so that's really saying something).

He was acutely aware that I didn't look like them, was proud, and I got TONS of attention because of it. I was young and worked out multiple times a week, well groomed, extremely clean. That was rare in the scene, so I was fawned over. And I was just like...if this is what y'all want why aren't you putting in the effort too? Pretending like you like patchouli ass and dad bods and neon pacifiers. I never gave in, I actually got a reputation for being "aggressive" and "mean" in my refusals 😂 He would warn couples not to proposition me. We'd be at a completely non-sexual show or party and within 10 minutes of meeting a couple, the woman is asking me to have sex with her and her partner. Get fucking bent, I don't like being harassed for sex by strangers when they're men, and it doesn't make it any better when it's a dude pimping out his insecure Pickme. Gross gross drama, all those people are.

I was just having a discussion about this the other day with my friends. We were talking about how this is always predatory because of the unavoidable power imbalance that occurs. Think of it, ESTABLISHED couples (people who trust, know, are familiar with each other) are looking for a LONE stranger, of course a female one. The couple gets to have an advantage of their rapport and the fact they have an alliance, their third will be the ‘other.’ Besides the obvious safety issues, the ‘unicorn’ is treated as a disposable thing.

I'm not going to lie; I'm somewhere in between both of these groups when it comes to style/aesthetic lol...closer to the ones on the right 😄 and I know a lot of other people with this style, too. A large percentage of them do engage in low value antics 😆 but some would surprise you.

I'm not offended by the post...quite the opposite. I laughed. It's mostly true. Either way the poly lifestyle is terribly problematic, manipulative, and sometimes exploitative. I'm just thinking out loud. Just wanted to point out not everyone finds people like the cat lady/mushroom dude unattractive (I prefer my men w/o steampunk hats, though 😆). They do look interesting and they have the potential to be hot (I know it's a personal preference/subjective) if they're the type who has decent hygiene/takes care of themselves and if their personalities aren't totally creepy and off putting...unfortunately, that's usually not the case with the poly couples looking for a unicorn.

I know many quirky, nerdy, and/or eccentric people. I think there is a sweet spot where people are unique enough to be interesting but when it gets toooo weird, there are usually a lot of low value lifestyle choices being made. A lot of basic looking/acting people are low value too though... even male model looking men are often sh*t, too.

..I guess because it's considered an alternative lifestyle it attracts more alternative people. I'm starting to see more poly people like the couple on the left, than before, though...maybe because all those things are becoming more mainstream, now (though still considered unconventional to most). There are some generic looking f***boys looking for poly relationships, too. .

I resent the way the “actual” poly woman is depicted in this comic. She clearly has a curated fashion aesthetic, is witchy, loves cats, wears bows in her hair and is rocking a GD Peter Pan collar. (Very similar to my own style snd I am so very not poly so maybe I’m taking it personally lol.) It comes off as very sexist in that it’s making a point to drag in all the old sexist standbys, i.e., witches, cats, colorfully dyed hair etc.

The dude on the other hand is a straight up clown who probably thinks his “steampunk” hat is...fashion? I do not know. It is not cohesive with anything else regarding his appearance.

Yes I’m being nit picky because I truly have a passion for fashion and I know for a fact that the majority of self loving women take a lot of care in presenting themselves aesthetically as a way of self expression, in whatever way that it appeals for themselves.

I am not disagreeing at all tho with the fact that every poly couple I’ve ever seen irl does have some kind of “alternative” look, but it’s usually so dumpy and half-assed.

Oh my god. I just had a flashback. I was 18/19, and a former friend who became pregnant in high school was dating this gross dude. (We grew apart because she wouldn’t stop indiscriminately fucking weirdos, and I wasn’t even sexually active. It wasn’t for purity reasons, I just didn’t want to have sex yet, let alone with gross, abusive weirdos.) They were belligerently arguing, so she left her son in the care of my addicted, dysregulated sister. (Great idea, right? Not.) Feeling for the kid, I stayed home to make sure he was safe and that there was a legal driver if there was an emergency because my sister had her license revoked. They promised to pay my sister/me, but they ended up taking us to Hooters. I missed work for this, so I thought I would at least get free food. The guy got all gross when the waitress said “What could I do for you?”. He then went on and on about how he always wanted to have sex with another redhead (The guy and I both had red hair). He “joked” about how we could have a threesome right there in front of her, and she sat there and tolerated it. I got the fuck out of there. I’m much more assertive now, and I know how to call DCS.
