He only took offense to splitting because he thought she would be paying for all of it. She was even considerate enough to buy HIM a dresser because if it was up to him he would keep his nasty clothes on a chair or on the floor but he didn’t object until she said to put some on his credit card. He stayed mute the whole time she was piling things into the cart which means he thought he could move into her apartment, have her pay for his things, cook, clean, submit, but also be the provider who spends $1,400 on necessities.

Those things weren’t a necessity to him because he is used to sleeping on the floor with a sheet over his mattress and a stool as a couch in his ‘bachelor pad.’

Contrast this with my bf, who offered to take me to ikea to buy some bookshelves for my house because they were too big for my car. I need one bookshelf and two DVD racks to fit the space. The DVD racks were in stock, so I bought those on my card, but the bookshelf was sold out, so I thought I'll come back next week. Without telling me he went online on his phone and signed up for an alert when they were back in stock. The alert came in at midnight that evening, but he didn't tell me. The next day he was supposed to be taking his mother for lunch, so took her to ikea (she was apparently very in to this as they were just supposed to be going to a local cafe, not a fancy restaurant or anything) and he picked up the bookshelves, paid for them, delivered them to my house, put them up for me and of course would not take any money for them. He nice man.

Even if you give this guy the benefit of the doubt and assume that she has bought loads of random tat (two trolleys full does seem like objectively a lot) he should have had the conversation before they got to the checkout.

I once cohabitated with a man who didn't see the point of buying a mattress, let alone a bedframe, a rug, a couch, a TV, or internet (I was in my early 20's and a dummy). He was perfectly happy sleeping on a blow-up mattress and eating Chili's take-out every night, using MY silver hair-cutting scissors to trim his balls, and using ~~our~~ MY laptop to watch movies when I needed to use it for homework.

I am so proud to say that my fiancé (we don't live together because we're not married yet, and I refuse to do wife duties without it being official) not only paid for my apartment deposit in his building, but furnished it, and doesn't think he's entitled to come over because he knows how I am about my personal space.

For anyone reading: Do NOT live with a man unless you're married to him. And maybe even after 😂🥰

What is really bothering me here is the numbers. He is moving in with her so likely saving on rent. Where I live, a studio apartment would be around $1,000 while a 2-bedroom would be $1400-$1600. So if he is already saving $200-$300 from moving in, spending $700 to furnish shouldn't be a big deal??? He will save more than that in 6 months. Why would you risk your relationship over a few hundred dollars when she is doing you a favor letting you move in???
