The only way to solve this problem is FULL decriminalization with state licensing. Each prostitute would need to apply for a license yearly and undergo a series of tests to determine if the woman is physically healthy, and acting independently. If you are caught without a license, or with a unlicensed prostitute you are charged with a crime.

It’s not misandry. Buyers have little to no risks and adversities from buying sex while sellers have many. Your drug analogy doesn’t work because buyers of drugs are more vulnerable than sellers. With certain types of sex work it’s the opposite.

Plus legalizing sex work tends to increase trafficking in flow because demand rises. So they could’ve also done this to prevent that. Partially decriminalizing It enables women who want to, to get out of the industry safely or seek help without fear of legal repercussions without increasing demand for an industry already in low supply.

Selling sex is different to selling drugs, as the sellers are exposed to all kinds of risks here and not the buyers. Which is the opposite of the situation where a person sells drugs. It also accounts to the fact that there are more trafficked prostitutes than there are...any trafficked clients (which isn't really a thing?) and there are more prostitutes who were involved it as minors than clients who are minors themselves.

I've read that some people do support criminalizing selling sex as well though, especially in countries where buying has been criminalized already.

Y’all thought the legalization of sex work would make it easier to get sex but the point was to make it easier for the workers to get help from law enforcement if needed. Men are not being demonized, human and sex trafficking is. Male sex workers are also more protected under this law but do to demographics, women are more likely to benefit.

OF creators are not included because they do not have direct contact with their customers, not because the law has an opinion on which is better.

Men are not being shit on, the behavior which is more likely to be done by men is being condemned.

This is the Nordic Model of regulating sex work. It aims to eliminate sex work by supporting women engaged in sex work to leave the business, and to squash the demand for it.

It doesn't really work in Nordic countries - where there is a very robust system of social security and support.

This kind of thinking is based on the Duluth model of feminism. Where the "women are wonderful" and the victims by default.

Divinely good women would not be selling sex if the male sexual predator was was not manipulating her economic circumstances through the patriarchy to sell her body.

Similarly one could argue that it is in fact women who, through a gynocentric oppressive system, put men in financial debt through child support and alimony, to force them to sell their body on the labour market for the creation of excess resources. I think the OP makes a very valid argument, even though I'm against the legalization of prostitution.

I find it odd how there is a sect of the left (feminists) who are pro-choice in some areas and not in others. They label prostitution as exploitive and don't want anyone, even if consensual from both parties, to engage in it.

And I actually agree with their conclusion that sex work can be exploitive. But not just for the sellers, but also the buyers. I'm of the position that prostitution does damage to everyone who engages with it. Even if not in the short term, there are long term consequences. But, then again, I'm not pro choice and think the government should intervene in some instances.

Yet this seems to be a matter of picking and choosing with this newly passed law. If the act is illegal, it should be enforced to all parties involved.

It's basically saying that there should not be sex work, but acknowledging that those who engage in it are choosing to do it because of the poor economic circumstances that they've been placed in. Of course, the better solution would be just to give everyone a basic income so that they weren't forced to engage in occupations like sex work that they don't actually want to do.

If men did not feel entitled to women’s bodies, it wouldn’t be an issue. Demand requires a supply. Decriminalizing buying sex creates demand. What happens when more entitled men want to buy women’s bodies? More trafficking, because there simply aren’t enough women out there who actually want to sell sex to men, in fact, the vast majority of prostitutes globally would rather not be prostituted at all.

The answer is simple - men need to stop buying sex. That would solve the entire issue.

When they got to the alleyway she demanded 50 more and, when he refused, started beating him around the head and kicking him.

In the context of such a law, he could not report the assault without risking being prosecuted himself.

Because they’re decriminalizing the people seen as victims, and criminalizing the people who are responsible for their victimization.

In the case of drugs, the dealers are seen as the ones creating victims out of the buyers. If there were no dealers there would be much less addicts, illicit drug deaths, cartel/gang violence, etc, whereas criminalizing the buyers does almost nothing to stop drug seeking & buying and just criminalizes people who are basically only hurting themselves.

As for sex work, they criminalize the pimps, the traffickers, and the Johns because those are the people who are seen as victimizing the sex workers, and the idea is that curbing the demand will curb the supply. Less johns and pimps means more sex workers will need to find other means of making a living, and therefore (hopefully) go into legal sex work or another profession entirely. Sex work is inherently exploitative, and is emotionally damaging to 95% of the women who do it, even the ones who go into it voluntarily (I would know). In that dynamic, the johns, the traffickers, and the pimps inhabit the role of victimizers and the sex workers are the victimized.

So in this society where our government wants to stop prostitution but doesn’t want to criminalize people we see as victims (prostitutes), the only other way to do it is by criminalizing the people who exploit/utilize them.

The thing with utilizing a sex worker (like a real-life prostitute, not a cam girl or w/e) is that you have no clue if that woman is there because she wants to be or because she has been forced to be in some manner. Only once prostitution becomes unprofitable (which is on the johns) will the traffickers and pimps stop finding women and introducing them into the trade, because they would no longer make any money from doing so.

The government could also go the route of legalizing prostitution and putting safeguards in place for sex workers and johns, but I don’t think we’re there yet as a society. And the same goes for legalizing all drugs.

We don't want to punish women who are likely human trafficked, traumatized children from our country or other countries, or are often in desperate survival circumstances.

We want to punish the men that directly contribute to them being enslaved, trafficked, abused, or desperately surviving.

Pretty simple. We don't want prostitution to be legal, we want it to end. The best way to do this is to protect prostitutes and criminalize their johns and pimps.

The difference is that humans are trafficked for sex. So they are the victims, and busting them for prostitution is essentially revictimising them twice.

With regards to drugs, the victims are the addicts. So busting the customers is getting them twice.

I agree in both cases that it's the pimps and dealers you really want to get. They are the ones who make it an organised business and target victims.

I don't think voluntary prostitution (or stuff like onlyfans) is in the same category of exploitation if those women are essentially self employed. Then I think it's a victimless crime.

All I know is, if you advocate, seeing nothing wrong with, support and even participate in doing sex work...you can't have an issue with the men who pay for your services.

You can hate weird people who take advantage, people who have really inappropriate tastes but that's not really exclusive to sex work but just a consequence of some men thinking that they can get what they want if they have the money to pay for it which happens all the time in the real world anyways.
