Being able to tell it's a windmill post before clicking will never not be funny to me. To answer the question though, no. I don't perceive myself as the type women would like to receive compliments from nor do I want to risk a simple gesture working against me.

Why the hell is the word "maliciously" in the title of your post? There is nothing malicious about not complimenting someone. Most men will get less than two compliments during their entire lives.

Women will also make tiktoks complaining about getting hit on when they're going about their day. They have no idea what they want and what they want can change at the drop of a hat.

Most men never compliment women “when out in public” and if we withhold anything, it’s out of not wanting to seem like a creep.

I’m scared I will get called a creep (I should have said I’m scared to make a woman uncomfortable) or be accused of harassment (in my head, I know, it’s still hard to break away from that thinking).

EDIT: This doesn’t occur for all women I encounter in public. If I see someone who is so attractive I don’t care then I will usually compliment them and it usually is received with positivity but there are some women I would compliment who I hold my tongue with, not in a malicious manner I’m just scared of how they will receive it.

I think withholding compliments is never malicious, even if someone used to give them out regularly.

If you see a woman who you think looks particularly nice and you would have normally given her a nice polite compliment... Are you no longer doing that? Why not? What has she done to you?

If I see a particularly attractive woman, I’ll just notice it and go about my day. Women of a certain calibre get more than enough of that kind of attention. Eventually, diminishing returns should kick in, right?
Anyway, I usually only give compliments to women I know (like friends or family) or if I have romantic interest in someone.

I intend to keep it that way as I've fared well with that (conservative) behavior.

I hardly compliment my friends, regardless of gender (if I do compliment you - we are very, very, very close) - so it isn’t really withholding, it’s just - as weird as it sounds - complimenting people feels weird and off to me. For some reason in my mind it’s a bigger deal than it actually is, so I don’t compliment people. (And before anyone assumes, no - this is not related to any “fear” peddled in manosphere groups. This is more related to my own issues, trauma and upbringing)

That being said, these examples you bring up are the exception - not the rule, the vast majority of women don’t want to be cat called, and while women love being complimented, a catcall is not a compliment

Unsolicited flirting or complimenting can be uncomfortable if unwanted. How would I know if a random woman wants a compliment or not? And why would I care? If we got into a conversation then sure, but just walking by? I'm gonna mind my own business unless you give me that "come talk to me" look.

Yeah, what you feed them they use against you behind your back. These days many women gossip and bolster their self esteem by insulting men behind their back to their work and friends. I have been actively training myself to stop giving compliments and roses stopped coming out long ago. The man can't do much about their behavior but they can stop feeding the cancer.

I suspect that most women would feel neutral to negative about a compliment coming from me. If I thought women liked receiving compliments from me I'd give them out regularly, why not? it costs me nothing.

lol they were telling me cat calling was only nefarious dehumanization on my posts. As if sometimes men don’t just give random compliments to strike up conversations and break the ice. I’ve seen women get legit cat called, not super vulgar but somewhat sexual and just walk away flattered and smiling afterwards.

Giving women compliments is not nearly as acceptable now as I imagine it once was. Men get it drilled into them that catcalling is bad a lot. Also men are just scared of talking to women in general. Anyway I can guarantee you that fewer than 3 men have ever "withheld compliments" out of malice, its just out of not wanting to be disrespectful or inappropriate.

Laughable take. I don't think of random strangers at all, much less go out of my way to either validate nor "maliciously" ignore them, particularly in non-social contexts like walking down the street.

I've always just lived my life. Most people are un-noteworthy. Attractive people are rare as a percentage of humanity but still common enough to number in the dozens or hundreds per day, depending on where you are...far too common for even the least preoccupied person to bother interacting with if they have any semblance of a life.
