I know there are arguments as to who has it easier in dating seeking a long term partner - but these arguments often fail to normalize things based on equality of effort and a person that is "reasonable" for them.

Let's define the two:

  • Equality of Effort: The amount of objective effort (time, emotional labor, money, energy) required to attract a long term partner is reasonable for you
  • Long Term Partner that is reasonable: someone who aligns with your values (religous, financial, common views on raising kids if applicable, etc), someone who has similar or at least not disparate physical/social/financial standing to you (e.g. you are a fit person who also wants to date a fit person but not an obese person or you are a doctor wanting to also date someone who is an engineer, doctor, lawyer, but not a cashier)

the more I examine things between men and women in these two lenses - the more I realize how INSANELY VAST the chasm is between men and women term of "equality of effort" required to secure partner.

Examples:

  • Physically: A women who is overweight needs to lose 20-30 lbs, throw on a dress/makeup and will be objectively attractive. A man who does the same may only be attractive if he is 1) not short, 2) has his hair 3) also has some muscularity. Also - to get the same "wow" effect for physical attraction a man has be in visibly good shape (muscular), tall, good face, good dress, etc. a women in general just has to not be overweight, throw on some make up and a dress.
  • Financially: no requirements for women other than not be in crippling debt. A man has to make more, and ideally 6 figures+
  • Social Skillls: A women can be shy and still be attractive. For a man, all onus is on him. one wrong slip up in words in the beginning stages can ruin attraction

When a a guy tries to find a girl that is reasonable for him - he struggles. because that women commands a much higher value than the guy. example - a fit guy making 6 figs who is of average height is going to be much, much lower on the "dating value" realm to a fit women making 6 figs. picture a guy who is fit, is average height, has an engineer job, and is generally confident/intresting. now picture a women who is fit - she puts makeup on and a form fitting dress, you also find out she has some charm/makes good money and owns her own place. visualizing that women, she is multiple tiers above the same guy (the male version of her). and everything she does to improve herself is an additional multiplier on to already elevated position versus the man.

I feel women completely do not recognize this vast chasm and the privilage it provides, and is a huge reason why a lot of men get frustrated/bitter towards the dating situation.
