What it implies is that women generally are much less interested in relationships or sex than men.

Go to a random bar with a 50/50 gender ratio (good luck finding them, most are sausagefests) and observe how many people of each gender are open to meeting someone from the opposite sex there for something romantic.

If it's half the men, and a quarter of the women, which wouldn't suprise me, you are already getting close to those tinder % stats. (Which would be 67% in this case)

There being 3 times as many men looking for a woman than the other way around on Tinder resembles the real world dating/relationship market just the same.

There's probably a lot of factors at works but I don't think it disproves hypergamy at all. It says more about male sexual strategy than female i.e. men are putting themselves out there to cast a wider net. Women who are on tinder are often just there for validational purposes anyway (the was a study that was done on this, not sure where to find it now).

One other thing to keep in mind, and this is sort of neglected by RP thought, is attachment styles...at any given time the sexual marketplace is more likely to be filled with avoidants and the securely attached people are in relationships and tend to stay in them...it's always going to be a bit of a cesspool. Of course the amount of damaged people around is also at an all time high so IDK. I'm sure a lot of more well-adjusted women also probably don't stick around since they get overwhelmed by the amount of thirsty dudes doing stupid shit like dick pics or whatever. Not to mention women generally have stronger social circles, so they have better access to men in real life who are some sense vetted by their social circles (which men don't generally care about at all).

It implies that OLD is dead. All women I know tried Tinder at some point. And most have a negative image of it. I was on there for a total number of 5 days like three years ago, got totally grossed out, deleted the app and never looked back. None of my girlfriends is on tinder. Some try with some other websites but most don’t. A lot of average women (who maybe don't have the greatest social skills) aren't on OLD because they find the experience instantly overwhelmingly negative.

But their average male counterparts are all on OLD because they naively think it's a legitimate way to make introductions when you have problems being social (shy, introverted, work to much, no friends, school, kids, etc)

So that's where the bottom drops out of the whole thing. Bumble was created to try and redress some of the imbalance and negativity by only allowing women to message first. But now you're dependent on women's ability to parse personality from a photograph. They often suck at this, but the average male also doesn't realize how to hype himself in photos. The average woman will date an average man, but she's used to reading trash media that present men in caricature so the average man has to approximate that in photos.

Tl;dr: dress properly and have someone take good photos of you and you can probably skip a few days at the gym.

Anyone who thinks that dating apps are proof of the SMP imbalance hasn't looked at most women's inbox on these apps. It's gotten better since most of them started preventing you from messaging people you haven't matched with, but most women's inboxes are filled with "Hey" "Hey" "Hey" "Hello" "Dtf?"

It's a case study in quantity versus quality, and unfortunately most men are their own worst enemies when it comes to dating online.

It's probably been beaten like a dead horse over and over by now, but the first implication that comes to mind for me is that there is an extremely low chance that the remaining 22% of people on Tinder are women once you factor in bots, women who are not even on there to actually date/meet someone, promos for instagram profiles, etc. It is more of a waste of time for most men than people initially thought it was. And that is REALLY REALLY bad.

Tinder was great when it first launched years ago. I can't believe how bad it is now. It is now a piggy bank for match LLC or whoever owns it.

I just checked mine... 61 new messages since I checked last night :/, about 38 new messages on OkCupid, and 15 on Facebook Dating but I haven't really been swiping or paying attention to it. I haven't paid for "match" and just deleted it after finding out women are required to pay in order to reply to messages and I'm not paying.

This is all with minimal effort. Like I seriously only swipe for about 5 - 10 minutes a day Maaaaybe twice a week and I can go weeks without swiping or replying.

It's going to confirm what I've been telling men and women... There's STIFF competition for women amongst men and a lot of "dating strategy" folks who tell men to expect women to initiate contact, who tell men to play games, be jerks, act hot & cold, etc. etc... are going to get their audience ghosted, deleted, blocked, and ignored.

I'm going to be straight up 100% real with you guys. Men need to be getting dating advice from women, not from other men. Men need to be asking women how to improve their prospects...

In a previous comment, I outlined a few basic things that men need to be doing to attract women and increase their likelihood of a match/text/date/sex with women. Men need to be doing these below items, AT LEAST, to attract most women...

Be attractive. That means give a fuck about your appearances. Dress to impress. Eat veggies, lift/exercise, Shower, shave, use cologne. Look good, smell good, and take pride in your appearance.
Be successful. Finish that degree, get a good paying job in a respectable field, and earn a decent living.
Be independent. Know how to cook, clean, and live alone. Have your own house. Have your own car. Have your own shit. Living with mommy and daddy is okay in your teens, and maybe in your 20s but in your 30s ... it's unattractive and I'm sorry. It just is. Being a manbaby is EXTREMELY unattractive and most women with options will not put up with it for long.
Be emotionally intelligent and know how to be social and how to talk to people. Know how to get her parents to like you, etc.
Be emotionally available and willing to commit to women. That means labels. That means commitment. That means being open to marriage and/or children. That means being faithful and treating her well. That means romance, effort, and working with your GF towards building a greater life.
Be smart, funny, sweet, kind, interesting, and generous. Don't have a vapid personality.

This is essentially 80% of what men need to be doing to attract most women BECAUSE of the staggering disparity of men to women on these apps. There are SO MANY hot, successful guys competing against each other. The guy I'm mainly texting now is a millionaire who wants to retire quietly. There's quite a bit of an age gap so I'm proceeding with caution. He's competing with another man who's a bodybuilder. I'm also texting a professional basketball player, several personal trainers, 3 doctors, one Dentist, and idk what this last guy does but he definitely has a Lamborghini and Yacht in his photos. These men are all hot & attractive, with the exception of the millionaire who's ... balding but still tall and rich. THIS is the level of competition that is in my inbox. I'm in my mid-30s. People on PPD and incels will have you believe I'm over the hill and nobody wants me but that's ... not the case. I'm sure if I swiped more than 10 minutes a day twice / week, I'd have even more matches... I keep having to dump these guys because they want something more and I don't. I'm good with my life as is and I just want to have fun right now and be free to do me.

I just dumped my ex of 7 months about ~2 months ago because he suddenly realized he wants to have kids and wants to settle down and that's not what I want right now. Re-activating the dating profiles, a BUNCH of the guys who I was texting before I met my ex ... are STILL on these apps. Their profiles are still active and a few have tried messaging me. One of my dating apps is almost 10 years old and there are guys on there who've messaged me ... who STILL have their profiles active and are logging in and texting.

Idk you guys. I guess the men who REALLY want to find love will eventually figure out how insane the competition is and get their shit together. Being 100% real and 100% anonymous on reddit, I would CONFIDENTLY say I'd rather be a woman right now, and I feel bad for my younger brother, who's in medical school. He's going to struggle HARD to find a girlfriend on these apps.

Tinder matches have absolutely nothing to do with hypergamy. So that doesn't track, prove, nor disprove anything.

SMP imbalance exists because men chase women. And women sit around picking and choosing among their suitors, just like the rest of nature.

It doesn't matter how "imbalanced " the ratios are on OLD because it still ends up resulting in a bell curve for men, and a lopsided curve for women.

Last year I tried tinder and decided to pay for tinder gold so I could just pick from men who have already matched me to save time. Now I’m no ‘Stacey’, I’m just an average looking 5’1 blonde girl with glasses. I don’t wear revealing clothing or excessive makeup. My pictures were just a few selfies, traveling pictures, some with my dog and friends... no ‘thirst trapping’ pics. My bio stated I was looking for something serious. I was expecting a few likes from like minded men... but in 1 week I had 1248 likes. Trying to weed through them and continuously getting messages about casual sex and dick pics was a fucking joke. The quantity of men was overwhelming while the quality was ridiculously underwhelming. If I was looking for casual sex I would’ve had a blast comparing all 1248 of them until I found the best looking dude. But I wasn’t, so I deleted it and never went back. 0/10 would not recommend.

Yeah. And back when okc had that data blog there were some pretty strange things about how they approached the analysis. But they made sense when I started to realize they were very careful to select analysis and results that made it difficult or impossible to estimate gender ratios. I think all of these apps are very careful to not tip their hands that it's a sausage fest. Guys will stampede wherever the women are.

The more interesting question is whether women would prefer sites that are sausage fests. I go back and forth on that. On the one hand it puts them in a position of power (seller's market) but my gut says they wouldn't because the transaction costs of dealing with aggressive guys they're not interested in is too high.

I’ve heard from many women they just quit and go back often, so it’s probably not as bad as that number sounds. They don’t need to stay for long, they can have all flavors of STR easily, so it makes no sense to stay on the app all the time.

The amount of sour grapes on this thread isn’t answering your question, just implying they can’t make tinder work.

And I also noticed during quarantine, a lot of women are quitting, deleting, unmatching, probably because guys can’t stop asking them out, so it gets old fast. There are lots of different estimates of the ratio of men-to-women on dating apps. They vary so much, I stopped believing them. I wouldn't give any faith in the 78% percent number. I've seen claims ranging from Tinder is close to 1 man : 1 women to claims saying it's 9 men : 1 woman (i.e. 90% men).

Men are horny plain and simple. I imagine a lot of their user base is between 18-25, the second horniest age range for young men lol.

I doubt this really means much though. A good portion of those men are more than likely undesirable for various factors. On top of that, women have the illusion of choice where they likely skip men they ordinarily wouldn't.

On the flip side, less women sucks for men who actually are getting matches as i find most women are pretty undesirable based off their profile.
