There's nothing wrong with being picky. But there IS something wrong with being picky about the wrong things. You want your filters to be meaningful, or else you filter out good people for no reason, and don't filter out bad people.

Consider for a moment modern purebred dogs. Lots of breeds are notorious for horrible health conditions due to their breeding. Pugs and other bracycephalic dogs have awful respiratory issues, Great Danes get seizures, Dobermans have heart problems, German Shepherds have hip and spine issues. This is because for about 100 years, breeders focused almost-solely on matching the aesthetic standards set by the showdog industry. If a dog was a barely-alive sickly mess, but it fit the standards better than a healthier dog, it got bred and the healthy dog didn't. Their filters focused on shit that didn't really matter and now we have tons of dysgenic dogs suffering through painful, short lives.

Dating has the same problem; women apply the aesthetics-only filter and often get stuck with hot-but-shitty guys. Except it's even worse in dating because, unlike with the dogs, the halo effect clouds your judgement with regards to dating. No matter how aesthetically perfect that German Shepherd is, hip dysplasia is pretty undeniably obvious; whereas a good-looking asshole can just seem "passionate" (read: prone to unhinged outbursts), "protective" (read: jealously controlling), or "confident" (read: stubborn and close-minded). I'm not saying hot guys are more likely to be assholes, but they're a lot more likely to get away with it for a long time in a relationship.

I think men are frustrated about the fluidity of women's parameters when choosing who to sexually involve themselves with.

Women are more likely to attach virtue to their standards, which leads to false rationalizations that men often notice. A woman will say she is attracted to a guy for his personality, but she is really more interested in his physical appearance. It's the same when they reject a guy they aren't attracted to: they rationalize that he is a bad person or has bad personality traits, so they feel rejecting him was justified on a ethical level. So, they rationalize good virtue in the reason they sleep with attractive men, and once the attractive man doesn't commit to her and plays her, she feels cheated and frustrated and shames all men for having sexual desires.People often forget that a man looking for casual sex isn't doing anything intrinsically wrong.

Once a girl holds the wisdom that giving a guy access to her sexuality doesn't keep the guy for the long run, they ensure their vetting strategy for future men includes withholding sexual interaction while expecting more out of the guy. It's good for the woman to be able to have and set those boundaries, but the men who were never attractive enough to fulfill their sexual exploration in their youth now feel cheated out of sexual experiences they want to realize.

I think it's good that women value themselves enough to set the boundaries they personally want, whether they are modest or promiscuous. I think it's great that women have the agency to conduct their life the way they want to.
