Research on women's aversion to bisexual men

"Heterosexual and gay/lesbian people were less willing to date bisexual people than bisexual people were to date them, consistent with anti-bisexual bias rather than mere in-group preference. Preferences against dating bisexual men appeared particularly strong, even among bisexual women."

"Results indicated that heterosexual women rated bisexual men as less sexually and romantically attractive, less desirable to date and have sex with, and less masculine compared to straight men. No such differences were found for heterosexual and gay men’s ratings of female and male profiles, respectively. These results support previous research findings that indicate more negative attitudes toward dating bisexual men than bisexual women."

"These findings extend previous research by demonstrating that negative attitudes toward bisexuals may translate to less willingness to have sex with, date, or be in a relationship with bisexual partners. The differences in willingness between heterosexuals and bisexuals as well as between LGs and bisexuals were stronger for women than men, suggesting that lesbians and heterosexual women may be more concerned than gay and heterosexual men about bisexual partners"

I think this research should to put to rest the idea that men are the ones upholding masculine norms, not women.

If you're a bisexual guy, and you're not looking to date seriously, it's probably best not to tell women about it.

As a bi dude, the comments here are all so telling...

We have evidence that shows androphilic women (in general) have one particular prejudice/aversion that outstrips straight men: willingness to date a bisexual member of the opposite sex.

The responses are either:

  1. Appeal To Worse Problems, Tu Quoque arguments, and other refusals to accept that women are NOT immune to prejudice or to perpetuating traditional gender stereotypes.

  2. Outright homomisandry/bimisandry and attempts to justify it. "I'm just scared of cheating" is not a valid reason to categorically exclude bisexual men as potential partners.

  3. "But women like slash fanfiction." Sorry, but pseudo-heterosexual woman-made pornography that feminizes one of the men into a sexist caricature does not immunize you from real-world bimisandry. The question is NOT about what porn you jill off to, the question is about whom you are willing to date. These are separate matters.

Ladies: being capable of the perpetuation of unjust prejudices is not a sexed trait. If women are human, women are capable of being bigoted.

[–]BeReasonable90 36 points37 points38 points 2 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Despite the narrative that “women are sugar, spice and everything nice” they are just animals that are equal to men.

Women are just as bigoted, rapey, creepy, manipulative, etc as men are. We just like protecting women who do awful things to try to keep the patriarchal idea that women are special prizes alive.

They rape and assault as much as men (https://www.reddit.com/r/PurplePillDebate/comments/18c0wzz/comment/kc86z2a/). And the evidence is so strong that there is never a counter argument, just downvotes.

Women are just as racist as men and will even do things like falsely accuse black men just to hurt them. And many are especially transphobic as they feel threatened by the idea of losing there privileges for being a woman.

Women are just as socially awkward and creepy as men. They do the same “Hey, how is it going?” They send unsolicited pussy and tit picks. They ignore consent. They assault. Etc.

They are also just as good as men are ofc. But we seem to have cherry picked equality to try to pretend that women are incapable of doing evil things.

I don't participate in hookup culture so I can only speak hypothetically, but hypothetically speaking, no. If I were looking for a one night stand I would not disclose that.

[–]SolomonRed -3 points-2 points-1 points 2 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

It may not be valid for you, but a person can you use any reason they want to justify who they do or do not sleep with.

[–]YetAnotherCommenterPurple Pill Man, Sexual Economics Theory 11 points12 points13 points 2 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I agree. Absolutely.

But the question isn't whether or not it's within someone's rights to use a particular reason to decide not to sleep with someone. Even completely bigoted reasons to decline to sleep with someone are within their rights because, well, it's their body.

But that doesn't mean the reason isn't bigoted.

People have an absolute right to say or believe bigoted things (so long as any statements made do not constitute incitement, defamation or fraud). People have a right to be wrong, and a right to be assholes.

But bigotry is still worthy of criticism.

How is it bigoted to find bisexual men unattractive ? Where does this ridiculous line stop? If she has a penis and you’re not into that? Bigot!1!!1!

Yea, I don’t find men who would have sex with another man attractive. I’m not bigoted. I just like MEN who are attracted only to WOMEN.

So much for the purple pill. This is a regurgitation of leftist ideology. In your other post you used the word “phobia” multiple times. Not being attracted to a man who is into sodomy is NOT phobia. The lengths people go to. My goodness.

This is just another piece of evidence that men and women are held to the same sexual standard: sleeping with men makes one less attractive. For some reason, there's a common misconception that the standard is double and men are studs while women are sluts. That is, of course, false, and it's whoever sleeps with men is a slut and whoever sleeps with women is a stud. And if anything, slut shaming is not misogyny, it's misandry, because it implies that a man taints his partners.

You've cracked the code my man congrats. I've traditionally called this penis corruption. PPD still hasn't come around to admit this yet but with a fellow noticer we might get somewhere.

[–]SlothMonster9This is a woman's flair 23 points24 points25 points 2 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I agree with this and have said it before: people seem to be disgusted by male sexuality. Gay men are disgusting, but lebsians are hot. Some have said that sleeping with women doesn't really count as a body-count, it's not a body-count that matters. One PPD man said he is disgusted with sluts specifically because of the men she slept with. Because they believe that male sexuality permanently damages somehow the person they sleep with, that a part of them will be ingrained forever into that person. So they prefer virgins or as close to one as possible...

It's an awful stupid thing to believe. As you said, it is misandry but it's disguised as misogyny.

Men wanting sex from their partner is also seen as some entitled degenerate demand to get off while for women it's seen as her deserving to feel desired and taken care of.

Depends on the perspective of who you discuss this with, mood plays a part in peoples’ perspectives too. It’s up to you to decide what you want to believe, and hopefully you can find some people who’s beliefs you can vibe with!

People have a problem overall with excess. Male sexuality is, at times, all about going to extremes. To over indulge. To give into base desires over more higher brain desires. Of course such things will be looked at negatively by a global society that still relies on the crutch of religion and puritan behavior to some degree.

[–]Educational_Mud_9062IDFK... Hammer-and-Sickle Pill? 3 points4 points5 points 2 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is an interesting framing I hadn't considered before.

[–]boom-wham-slamRed Pill Man 4 points5 points6 points 2 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No double standard. Exactly.

[–]BeReasonable90 7 points8 points9 points 2 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That is because we live in a culture that believes women sexuality is holy while men’s sexuality is predatory.

It is to the point where people actively get in the way of a man having success with relationships while women are entitled to sex to the point they are allowed to get away with rape.

We protect women who rape children and get men fired for harassment for just asking a girl out.

We take women’s words as absolute and men’s words as false until the facts say otherwise.

[–]lolthankstinderPurple Pill Man 12 points13 points14 points 2 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

The same stigma applies to submissive men that like getting pegged which doesn't involve any 'tainting' from a man/penis. I think a better term for that is submissive stigmatization, not misandry or misogyny. Women often perpetuate this stigma when they pathologize sex and equate it to being used by men which demeans women's role in sex. This is simultaneously misandristic and misogynistic so I think it's more accurate just to label it submissive stigmatization.

In addition to that, I think a lot of women have antiquated protector role expectations for men. This often manifests as extreme height preference and conflicts with the idea of men being small/submissive in any capacity. In other words, women's height preference comes from the same source as their biphobia: antiquated expectations for men.

[–]HantuAnggara [score hidden] 2 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

But a woman getting pegged by another woman doesn't 'taint' her so it's not just submission = bad. It's true when it's done to a man though so I think it's man + submission = bad. But both men and women become 'tainted' when they have sex with a man because of a separate thing which is man OR woman + man = bad. The former is because of expectations of men and the latter is because of disgust of male sexuality.

[–]Stergeary 2 points3 points4 points 2 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Isn't the conversation about heterosexual women?

[–]HantuAnggara 2 years ago* [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link

I thought of using the example of a man pegging a woman and have is not equal as bad, but I thought of the latter thing (man OR woman + man = bad) and realized that it still equaled to bad in the end because in the latter case it's not even what the man did or if he even used his genitals, the disgust of male sexuality remains.

Also people were talking about gay people to discuss this topic anyways so I didn't think I was being irrevelevant.

[–]Stergeary 1 point2 points3 points 2 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

If a woman is in the role of a dominatrix, I don't think there's a stigma about her dominating men in the sense that it would taint her, even if she were to peg him. I think the feeling of "taint" does come from the dominant application of the male penis. And I don't know, but do gay men view promiscuous gay men in a negative light?

[–]HantuAnggara2 points 2 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I think it's because male sexuality is seen as disgusting. Put a focus on the word male; It implies expectations of the sex. A pegging dominatrix might be doing something typically coded as a male action by penetrating but in the end it is not seen as male sexuality but female when a woman pegs. It's less the action itself but for who the sex is seen to 'serve' or desired by most. Think female or male gaze. I said that man OR woman + man = bad arose from the understanding male sexuality is disgusting, and since dominatrix sex is not seen as male sexuality but female (or maybe neither), it does not equal to bad for the woman. And yes I'm aware in most dominatrix situations, the man desires it more, but it still isn't perceived to be male sexuality as it does not conform to expectations of males. This implies that dominatrix sex, as some might see it, to be part of male sexuality instead as they are the ones that desire it (and some people attach sexual 'degeneracy' to males) and I believe a dominatrix is still seen as tainted by those who see dominatrix sex as male sexuality.

(I did say man + submission = bad but I don't think 'bad' means tainted in this case. Perhaps humiliated or weak? Somewhat irrelevant)

The subversion of roles does not result in the same thing for both sexes; while men are generally always expected to be dominant and only that, and women are generally expected to be submissive, but men do not find dominant women to be unattractive. Even if it's not the man's preference, she is not seen as unattractive or a failure of the sex for it unlike how it is for submissive men. Of course, generally speaking.

[–]lolthankstinderPurple Pill Man 2 points3 points4 points 2 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

A better way to describe it might be something like expectations-deviating submissive stigmatization / male-sexuality receiver stigmatization and they’re both factors at play manifesting in different ways.

[–]Glittering_File_6990 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

You had me until height preferences. That's not controllable. It's just biology. Same as a guy's preference for curvy instead of flat. I agree with everything else. Dominant=superior, submissive=inferior to a lot of people.

[–]lolthankstinderPurple Pill Man 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Well one could argue that men’s strong sexual attraction to women is biological which would mean that hating men for that is sexism and giving men access to sex is a public health issue. Rather, feminists argue that socialization by the patriarchy plays a male role. If that’s true, then women’s attraction to tall men is also 100% patriarchy. Why only stigmatize and socialize away one of those, why not both per gender equality?

[–]Glittering_File_6990 4 points5 points6 points 2 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

What are you even talking about?

"giving men access to sex is a public health issue"

This sounds a bit rapey.

Sexual attraction is natural. No one hates men for feeling sexually attracted to women. People hate men for behaving inappropriately and using that as justification for it. Sexual harassment, sexual assault, stalking, AI generated nudes, etc.

No one's entitled to sex... I hope you realize that.

[–]lolthankstinderPurple Pill Man -2 points-1 points0 points 2 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link

If “loneliness” is made a public health issue are you just as eager to immediately demonize it as forcing people to do things? That’s not what it’s about at all, and sex as a public health issue similarly wouldn’t involve forcing anyone to do anything. People are so quick to demonize it because of pathologization of men and sex.

No one’s entitled to friends, hope you realize that. Yet, loneliness is still considered a public health issue. There are ways to fix and address that without forcing anyone to do anything.

And you misunderstood the point of my comment which is the tendency for the nature vs nurture debate to always contort to benefit women. Men like sex? Oh that’s socialization. Women like height? Oh it’s biological you can’t do anything about that. It’s hypocritical and is always designed to pathologize and blame men.

[–]Glittering_File_6990 3 points4 points5 points 2 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

"People are so quick to demonize it because of pathologization of men and sex."

No it's cuz you said something borderline rapey.

"Men like sex? Oh that’s socialization. Women like height? Oh it’s biological you can’t do anything about that. It’s hypocritical and is always designed to pathologize and blame men."

When did I ever say that? Lol. I honestly don't know what you're on about. Perhaps you should take this up with... Someone who actually believes that.

[–]lolthankstinderPurple Pill Man 1 point2 points3 points 2 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You:

You had me until height preferences. That's not controllable. It's just biology.

"giving men access to sex is a public health issue" This sounds a bit rapey.

It is not "borderline rapey" to consider something a public health issue. You don't instantly demonize the loneliness public health issue as "forcing people to have friends" because you don't have the same underlying pathologization for "loneliness" as you do for sexual desire and healthy gender relations. As a matter of fact, I think acknowledging sex and unhealthy gender relations as a public health issue could actually help prevent rape by encouraging more healthy, safe, natural, mutually enjoyable gender interactions and socialization. So, you are being borderline rapey by just completely and instantly dismissing it without question.

[–]Glittering_File_6990 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Lol. Someone forgot to take their happy pills. Good luck arguing with whomever comes along next.

[–]Acrobatic_ComputerMore Red Than Purple Pill Man 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

I think the problem with arguing that there is significant stigma against being submissive which is driving this is that being sexually submissive is much more socially acceptable.

Someone expressing a fantasy about being raped, as a fantasy and not a real thing, is way more acceptable than someone expressing a fantasy about raping someone, as a fantasy and not a real thing. This combos with people tending to view men as more of a threat, combined with their relatively more common skew towards dominance orientation (IIRC men still are more likely to skew at least a bit submissive, but that the ratio is significantly closer to even than with women who skew much more heavily towards submissive orientation, but that in general submissive orientation is actually much more common than one would think in men).

I think what really best describes what is going on here is that dominance orientation as a whole tends to be more possessive and guarding of one's "mate" whereas submissive orientation cares less. Someone else also controlling a submissive inherently means there is less you can control / compromises you have to make versus a dominant individual also having another submissive, which doesn't make it any harder (arguably makes it easier to then submit to that person). Might be getting a bit more into extreme dominance/submissive orientation, but I think that may be a better explanation, since it would explain societal attitudes towards submissive/dominant sexual acts/desires.

EDIT: There is also the general attitude that experience in someone dominant tends to add to their value, whereas experience with someone else tends to subtract from the value of a submissive, not only would this align with mate guarding, but that in general if you expect to off-load decisions to someone dominant, their decision-making qualities are themselves desirable and get better with experience (and not necessarily in an extreme way, but like, it is easier to be confident and know what you're doing in bed if you've had a bunch of sex before), whereas with submissive orientation conforming to someone else's desires just sets up the potential to habituate to things that aren't what your current partner wants.

[–]WowYouMustBeJoking1 point 2 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

No, incorrect. No one respects a man who's into femdom less. I mean, if he managed to do it with multiple women, too, that's an achievement as the supply-demand ratio is insane. Pegging is ok because no other mens' dicks are involved.

[–]KayRay1994Man -1 points0 points1 point 2 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

there are a lot of logical leaps here - the reason why sleeping with women makes someone more attractive is because of the male gaze; a man who sleeps with women is a stud, and a woman who sleeps with women, especially with a man around is fun because girls kissing is hot. Its more misogyny than misandry tbh

[–]Glittering_File_6990 17 points18 points19 points 2 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Even gay men that bottom get slut shamed though. I think they're onto something

[–]Cool_Relative7359Blue Pill Woman -1 points0 points1 point 2 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Because for people see the act of bottoming as "feminine" . And there's nothing worse for a man to be in their minds.

[–]Educational_Mud_9062IDFK... Hammer-and-Sickle Pill? 2 points3 points4 points 2 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't think a woman getting pegged faces nearly as much stigma so it doesn't seem like bottoming is the fundamental or only element.

[–]Spyro7x3back from being banned again again man 20 points21 points22 points 2 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

No he's right. Put aside your robot ideology for a second and really think about what he's saying its 1000x more interesting and accurate than your premade responses (everything is always misogyny not misandry blah blah" vanilla feminist rhetoric. Actually try to think about this.

Men don't care when their girl sleeps with another girl even if they aren't there to see it what kind of "gaze" is that? It has no explanitory power. However the fact that the PENIS CORRUPTS AND IS THE SLUT MAKER. Has a ton of explanitory power. No one likes anything that gets fucked by men except for gay men.

I usually have an opinion that most human behaviors come from socialization

But if the "penis corrupts" theory is true, it may even have sense on evolutionary level. STDs are more likely to be transmited by men because they literally leave pathogen-transmitting stuff inside their partner

[–]WowYouMustBeJoking1 point 2 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

No, incorrect. It's not that it makes them more attractive, it's that it doesn't make them less attractive. Either way, it would be up to women to decide what is and isn't attractive. Male gaze is irrelevant here. A woman who sleeps with women is also a stud etc. See the comment you responded too, you didn't add anything new and the comment already explained everything you're saying.

Not really important what you think, when the vast majority of women seem to be attracted to guys who do rack up an impressive body count. Or in other words: being a promiscuous man gets a man more pussy, than it disqualifies him from more pussy.

[–]RedditIsCensorship2Red & man. Wtknights are cucks, have some self-respect. 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Hey, you're the one who needs an imaginary sky daddy to be able to behave morally. I try to behave morally, because I recognize the humanity in others and therefore don't need to rely on a religion for that.

Being a whore is absolutely moral under the atheist paradigm.

You tried to sound smart and edgy, but ended up with mumbo-jumbo. No need to panic. I will cut away all the nonsense and give you your sentence back at the end.

Absolutes don't exist. 'Absolutely moral' therefore is a meaningless combination of words. So, that leaves us with: Being a whore is moral under the atheist paradigm.

Atheism only refers to not believing in the existence of a God. Atheism therefore doesn't say anything about the morality of human actions. Not even about females acting like whores. So, the claim that being a whore is moral under the atheists paradigm, is completely made up BS by you.
Since there is no connection between atheism and morality of human actions, that leaves us with two individual sentences. Being a whore is moral and Atheists paradigm. Atheists paradigm in itself is not a sentences with meaning. So, there's no reason why we should keep that. That leaves us with: Being a whore is moral.

If being a whore is moral or immoral, is very subjective. So, when your sentence claims that "Being a whore is moral", the only information you are getting across is that YOU think that women taking dicks in exchange for money, is not wrong. The only possible meaning contained in your sentence is your opinion on whores. Which is fine, you can have your opinion on whores. I just do not really get why you are bothering me with it. This conversation started with promiscuous men. Don't really understand why you are bringing whores into it or your opinion on them.

[–]WowYouMustBeJoking1 point 2 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Some like it, some don’t.

I’m very well aware that some ladies like gay men more than anything because they feel he won’t behave sexually predatory to her. That is not applicable to bisexuality.

Some women are turned on by the thought he likes men too & on some level can relate to how it feels to date men.

As you mentioned yes there is biphobia or misconceptions that sexual orientation predetermines his outlooks on other aspects of life which are largely untrue.

Sooo if he's one of the men, his gf is the woman, and the third is also a man at a threesome, what does that imply the third man will be doing? Unless "threesome" for you means, "watch my bf fuck another man while I'm on the sidelines?"

[–]Stunning-Potato-1984Purple Pill Woman 1 point2 points3 points 2 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Um he got a dick and mouth still don't he? The whole point of a threesome is everyone's involved. Where exactly is your imagination. It's called a dude being the elbow. Boyfriend can be sandwiched, getting fucked in the ass by a dude while you ride him or he goes down on you. You riding him while he blows the other dude. Like again: where is your imagination?

[–]Educational_Mud_9062IDFK... Hammer-and-Sickle Pill? -1 points0 points1 point 2 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

So because you can imagine a scenario where the bf acts as some kind of barrier between the gf and the other man, that means that's definitely how every MMF threesome works? Aight

As a gay dude in a relationship with a bisexual guy, I can understand why gay guys could be averse to bisexual guys.

Depending on areas, bisexual guys could avoid having to deal with homophobia by dating women instead. Being in a same-sex relationship pretty much forces the guys to come out. Having kids is obviously a big factor as well.

As much as I advocate for being open with being bi (as long as it’s safe to do so), bi guys lying about their sexuality get the results. My in-closet bi guy friend just got married to his wife, and she had no idea.

[–]Atlasatlastatleast 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Sure, but the majority do. And because of the stigma in many places, especially double marginalized communities like within Black or trans people, those rates are even higher. Contraceptives are prohibitively expensive for some people, and the public health department, if accessible, often gives out inadequately sized condoms. Gay men have on average a slightly bigger penises than straight men, apparently, and no one ever tells you that condoms probably don’t feel good because they’re the wrong size. Half of all Black people live in an abstinence only state, so they’re not covering any harm reduction. The stigma may mean they’re must “sneaky-link” so to speak leading to under prepared people engaging in sex, etc etc etc etc. I don’t know how much PrEP costs, it’s probably free for a lot of people, idk. But gotta wonder how nearby the clinics are to these populations.

I am not able to quickly find relevant statistics for the celibacy thing but I’ll tell you that in my experience some gay men, as well as people of all other demographics at times, but especially gay men, tend to have non-relationship sex more often, and with more partners. Just hop on Grindr, you can tell what it’s built for.

I've settled this a million times. The Penis is the slut maker and corruptor. Both sexes find anyone who gets fucked as a slut. Thats how women see bi men and how straight men see slutty women the same exact thing that makes women biphobic is the same energy that makes men slut shame.

When women slut shame its because of the pussy cartel and price cutting so its coming from a different place. This is why although women slut shame a ton they still defend other women from male slut shaming because its coming from a different place the exact place where womens biphobia comes from (they don't like the idea of their lover getting fucked by a dude).

The sooner y'all accept this the more the world will make a bit of sense as usual with all of my insights you're welcome.

[–]YetAnotherCommenterPurple Pill Man, Sexual Economics Theory 14 points15 points16 points 2 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The Penis-as-the-defiler theory also explains "bottom-shaming" in the gay world, as well as the "Mediterranean Bisexuality" (i.e. "its not gay unless you're the bottom") mindset.

That said, if the penis-as-the-defiler attitude really is the driving force behind these feelings (including the slut-shaming of women), then we should be campaigning against that attitude because it is deeply misandric.

Because when women see a bisexual man, they assume he takes it in the ass which she views as submissive, and therefore less masculine, and therefore less attractive.

The dominator-dominated view of sex has evolutionary roots. For example, in Ancient Rome and Greece it was completely fine and masculine for a man to fuck other men in the ass. But for a man to get fucked in the ass was seen as a horrible emasculating sin.

In short: Women are turned off by male displays of submission.

I’m a bi woman engaged to a bi man, and I personally have found I prefer being with another bi person, though it isn’t a strong preference. I have experienced biphobia from both men and women, not in an aggressive way but in a not understanding way - thinking that I was either going through a phase, or closeted lesbian, or that I would “need” to have both male and female partners simultaneously. That’s not something I want to deal with in a relationship, so having someone who gets it is nice.

All that being said, a) I am just one woman, I do believe there are many women straight and bi alike who don’t want to date bi men, and b) I believe men do experience more biphobia in general. I don’t think having a preference for sexual orientation is always biphobia, but it probably tends to stem from misconceptions about bi people. That they are promiscuous, cheaters, closeted, generally untrustworthy. The AIDS scare in the 80s and 90s didn’t help.

[–]KayRay1994Man 5 points6 points7 points 2 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

I think a lot of this isn’t inherent and moreso a result of socialization. Bisexual men (and people as a whole) always had the choice to just pretend to be straight - hell, that’s what stopped me from coming out for a while (i’ve officially been out and open about it since the summer), i enjoy both genders sexually but can only date/have a relationship with women, so i always thought “what’s the point” - so naturally, bisexuality has either been ignored, tossed in with gay stereotypes or viewed as “not real” by some of the lgbt community.

Its a really tough spot to be in cause so much of it is tied into stereotyping (women in particular are horrible at stereotyping gay men, and this informs their povs on bi men (as well as a little dose of internalized misogyny) - but straight men are guilty for this as well, though in a different way, and arguably a more harmful way as misogyny and toxic masculinity is the thing that resulted in liking men = effeminate), as well as active exclusion; ie. “pick a side” - its tough, but luckily that sentiment is slowly changing and i find that people are starting to be okay with dating bi men more and more, i’m noticing more bi acceptance as a whole which is nice

I think this research should to put to rest the idea that men are the ones upholding masculine norms, not women.

If you're a bisexual guy, and you're not looking to date seriously, it's probably best not to tell women about it.

There was never any real contention, to be honest. Every study shows women having an overwhelming aversion to anything considered feminine in men. Bisexuality is just one of many ways to get yourself disqualified. Saying women created and maintain gender roles is like saying the sky is blue.

[–]BeReasonable90 1 point2 points3 points 2 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Or in other words, studies show that woman are bigots that believe they are entitled to men fitting rigid roles for the sake of there sexual pleasure.

Aka the equivalent of how we forced women to fit a certain archetype for male’s pleasure in the 60s.

Women know bi men have a choice. More access to sex means they are harder to control transactionally holding sex over them. This is also why rich men have an aversion to richer women - harder to control using money.

If the guys here were realistic about threats to long term monogymy instead of fantansing about a threesome they would worry as much about bisexual women as they would male friends.

Though I once had a guy here say when I brought up the not so uncommon senerio of women leaving them for a friend as they age that it would be fine, because no dicks, and they can get a younger wife. .

Right. Men and women are both very homophobic. No surprise. The only reason men come off looking "better" here is because they don't actually take female bisexuality (or homosexuality) seriously.

The only reason men come off looking "better" here is because they don't actually take female bisexuality (or homosexuality) seriously.

Everything with "you guys" is so...I don't know how to put it. Unscientific? It's always like "How can we interpret this phenomenon in a way that makes men look bad? How can this be interpreted in a way that makes men look misogynistic?" And then you just come up with an interpretation and immediately accept it as the truth. It's so obvious from the outside.

For instance, here's a phenomenon: men aren't as threatened by women cheating on them with other women. Why? Oh, I know. It's because men don't take women seriously or lesbian relationships seriously. Case closed. No further examination required. Right?

Well how about it's just not threatening on an instinctual level because women can't get other women pregnant? Or maybe on an instinctual level for no particular reason. How about because the person she's cheating with is simply not like me?

No, it has to be interpreted in the least generous way possible, and then immediately accepted as fact. I know because I've heard other people in your circle (i.e. tumblr) throw it around as fact.

How about this: men don't take male relationships seriously because most men won't marry other men and insist on marrying women! It's misandry, see?

[–]AI_CODE_MONKEYSaddam-Pilled Man[S] 27 points28 points29 points 2 years ago (33 children) | Copy Link

It’s simply not the “gotcha” you think it is.

[–]DesertShifterRed Pill Man -1 points0 points1 point 2 years ago (30 children) | Copy Link

I don't think this makes anyone look bad, frankly. It is perfectly normal, logical and reasonable to not want to date someone who is bisexual. If you're concerned about half the population when it comes to future stability, you'd be doubly concerned about throwing in an extra half to worry about. It's also fine to be concerned about whether they're bi or gay and in denial, because that's not something you want to have to worry about down the line. If you don't care, good for you, but most people who are serious about their dating lives do not want to go into a long term relationship thinking "what if someday I simply cannot be good enough no matter what because I just wasn't born differently, and our relationship ends because of something I cannot control?" While that fear can extend to other things, sexuality is a big one. And it's not just a straight thing either, because gays and lesbians are just as right in worrying about whether their partner is serious or just experimenting. Bi's get their cake and get to eat it casually, but formally? Quit being so entitled about a red flag you bring to every relationship and deal with it.

[–]Glittering_File_6990 7 points8 points9 points 2 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

That's like saying bi people are more likely to cheat... simply for being bi. Isn't it more about that person's character?

[–]DesertShifterRed Pill Man 1 point2 points3 points 2 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

thats like saying

You can say its like anything, but why not just take it at its face value instead? If you FEEL or are CONCERNED about your straight partner cheating then you're naturally going to worry about the people she's interested in fucking. So when it comes to someone who's bi, regardless of how rational your FEELING is, what's more likely to happen is an increase in your worry rather than a decrease. If you're so concerned about the feelings and emotions of bisexuals you've never even met, then you're free to practice what you preach and marry them instead of bullying others into making the decision you didn't make.

Y'all need to quit thinking that people behave like robots. Emotions are not always rational, rationality doesn't always make people stop feeling a certain way.

So what? The concern remains just as real and rational for both. You can't always rationalize away a feeling. You can rationalize all you want about a parent dying at old age, painlessly and whatever but it's not going to make the fact that a parent died any less painful.

The only reason men come off looking "better" here is because they don't actually take female bisexuality (or homosexuality) seriously.

So I should think a partner is more likely to cheat if she's bisexual? Is that what you mean by "taking female bisexuality seriously?"

This is why women don't want to date bi men:

Results indicated that heterosexual women rated bisexual men as less sexually and romantically attractive, less desirable to date and have sex with, and less masculine compared to straight men.

Not because they think they're going to cheat. Men come off looking better because they're not engaging in blatant homophobia like these women are.

Im not homophobic I just don't think lesbian relationships are serious so I'm not worried about a woman stealing my woman. Plus I'm totally an ally because I trivialize my girls bisexuality to a performance whose sole purpose is making my dick hard

Cool strawman, but this thread is about women actually being homophobic, as in thinking less of bisexual men. [–]his_purple_majestyPurple Pill Man 18 points19 points20 points 2 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

No, you just made up some nonsense. Again, men don't think bisexual women are "less sexually and romantically attractive, less desirable to date and have sex with, and less feminine compared to straight women." Women do think this about bisexual men. It's not because they "take bisexual men seriously." It's because they're disgusted by them and homophobic. It's amazing how much the blue pill side of this sub tries to spin everything.

[–]richard_golbes -5 points-4 points-3 points 2 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Homophobic men (of which there are as many if not more than women) are also disgusted by bisexual men. They just aren’t trying to date them. They show disgust in other ways.

I’d wager that a study/survey which looked at attitudes regarding friends or family or co-workers who have had same-sex relations at some time would reveal men as less charitable toward other men.

[–]his_purple_majestyPurple Pill Man 12 points13 points14 points 2 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]sublimemongrelBecky, Esq. (woman) -5 points-4 points-3 points 2 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Men don’t dislike bisexual women because duh the idea of women being into women is hot to men. Obviously there’s cultural bias here against men being with men. It doesn’t just affect men, it also affects women. Which doesn’t make it ok but you’re ignoring this. You should be looking at traditional/conservative/religious rhetoric not men versus women. Our more recent generations are much more open to fluidity which is a good thing, but that’s because progressivism in social policies has gotten more normal

Several of my best friends are lesbian, and they’re serious about it. I never have doubted lesbian relationships at all. I don’t think my GF is an object that makes my penis hard. Still, I dont feel threatened by lesbians and bisexual women because I feel like they’re more likely to be respectful of the boundaries of a relationship and because I don’t think my gf would get along with another woman in a relationship.

“not engaging in blatant homophobia” oh the amount of times straight men have used gay and effeminate interchangeably, have refused to engage in certain hygiene practices cause “gay”, have an active fear of their words/actions accidentally being seen as gay and fear the thought of even questioning their sexually. But sure, men are less homophobic.

Now, I don’t like the way women stereotype gay men too, but it isn’t “homophobic”

a mot of this ties into misogyny and for women, internalized misogyny - i truly think that many women dislike bi men because of misogynistic views on homosexuality + stereotypes women run with when it comes to gay men (ie. the yaaaas queen twink), though now that bi men (and bi people as a whole) have become more open about it, the stereotype is starting to die and frankly, women disliking bi men is becoming less common

I don't think anyone thinks gay and bi men are animals? At least not more than straight men.

the difference is the availability of casual sex and the risks sex with men carries. its a very different situation than a straight man sleeping with a woman (both harder to come by by a significant degree, and less likely to come with stis bc of the nature of male/male sex).

If it was a man saying it, it wouldn’t need explained

your flare says you are a man?

[–]Pitiful_Many3583Purple Pill Man 6 points7 points8 points 2 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

I meant If it was a man saying something blatantly homophobic.

Gay men are not a monolith. Nor are bi men a monolith. Your argument about availability of sex is redundant because we know that a straight man being sexually successful is no deterrent for the vast majority of women. And the OP has clearly exhibited that women are not “sexually attracted” to men that have been with other men. Not that they are making a tactical decision not to sleep with men they ARE attracted to.

And do you think straight men are then allowed to judge women by their levels of sexual activity? Is it fair for men to find more chaste women attractive?

I dont know. Why are rest stops full of married men having sex with men? Are you just going to not have dick for the rest of your life?

[–]AnthemJavelin 11 points12 points13 points 2 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

God I hate this shit.

Yes. Us bi men who want committed relationships don’t “miss out” on dick when we’re with women partners, just like how straight men who want committed relationships don’t miss out on other pussy.

Cheaters don’t care about LGBTQ status or gender. They cheat regardless.

[–]apresonlyNo Pill woman -2 points-1 points0 points 2 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

[–]AnthemJavelin 9 points10 points11 points 2 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I’m just not interested in cheating, though.

That’s my point. And it’s kind of a raw one for me, because when I came out to a girlfriend she freaked out and instantly thought I wanted to leave her for a man. Or would cheat with a man.

I’ve never cheated in my life. Cheaters cheat. Being bi =/= cheater.

All this said, yes, when I was single it was far easier to get laid by men rather than women. Going on Grindr vs Tinder, when I was single, is night and day if you’re just wanting to fuck or get fucked.

I’ve been cheated on, and it’s awful. It’s one of the worst things people can do to each other.

This, again, is a deeply personal matter to me.

Most bisexual people end up with the opposite sex long term that's part of the reason why dyed in the wool gay people are constantly accused of "biophobia" for not taking bisexuals too seriously and don't really consider them gay. Because they accurately see that for a lot of "bisexuals" their bisexuality really isn't that much of a thing.

Everytime a girl tells me she's bi I just roll my eyes internally. I won't take it seriously and most dudes aren't gonna be afraid their chicks gonna leave them for a girl because it just barely happens in real life.

[–]NotARussianBot19841 point 2 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Gold star lesbians, it's a common demand.

Basically, a bi girl who is currently/has dating a man, is much less desired by other lesbians cuz often they will go back to dating men (for whatever reasons). Now sure, bi girls would be open to bi girls, but the reason why lesbians like gold stars is the less competition. I've tried talking to a few, it's usually due to experiences of women leaving them for a man.

There's just a lot of men competing for her, so stiff competition. It's easier to just only want women who don't see men as an option.

, suggesting that lesbians and heterosexual women may be more concerned than gay and heterosexual men about bisexual partners

Probably because bi women often end up with men and bi men also often end up with men. Or at least that was the prevailing perception for a long time.

Nowadays I would venture to say that bisexual men are actually bisexual, whereas bisexuality-identified women are often donning progressive virtue signaling (yes you are attracted to a woman and might even sleep with one; no, that does not grant you membership to being a sexuality minority)

[–]M_Ptwopointoh 12 points13 points14 points 2 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Seems tautological - women reject bi men so bi men end up with men, leading future women to reject bi men because they end up with men.

(yes you are attracted to a woman and might even sleep with one; no, that does not grant you membership to being a sexuality minority)

What? If a woman is attracted to women and sleeps with one accordingly, she still isn't bi? What's the threshold, she has to get a shitty haircut and wear some flannel for it to count?

So back in the 90s and 00s when homophobia was more common, a lot of 100% gay guys would “soft come out” as bi first, especially if they were on the younger side. That is how bi men developed a reputation for being mostly gay. Maybe things are different now

I don’t think a Katy Perry bisexual is deserving of the same level of consideration or protection as a woman who is living an openly sapphic lifestyle. One can hide behind a heteronormative relationship if shit gets “too real” the other can’t.

(I say this as someone who has had sex with women and is married to a man.)

There's a term for women who aren't "full lesbian" in that they will kiss other women and allow a woman to go down on her but won't return the favor.

[–]BeReasonable90 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

That is bigoted.

All the Bi women I know prefer women for short term relationships and men for long term relationships because of how we are molded by culture expectations.

Many women have a “I am the table” approach to long term relationships, while men have a “I am lucky to have a partner” approach. So it is more likely for a man to offer you value in a relationship whlle the woman frequently just sits there and expects to be catered too.

While we expect women to put a ton more work into there looks and being a prize to be won. While men often do not put much work into there looks at all. So women tend to be much more coveted for short term relationships.

So if given a choice, most people would pick to date men for long term relationships and women for a short term relationship in our culture.

Those that do not fit these molds still get judged according to them.

That is why you observe what you did. Not that BI women (like my wife) are not BI because they prefer to date men.

[–]relish5kLouise Perry Pilled Woman 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Your reasons sound completely reasonable (although over the past few years there has been an increase of bisexual identification of women who have exclusively slept with men in the last 5 years among progressives)

But given your reasons I can also understand why a lesbian may prefer to date another lesbian vs a bisexual.

[–]BeReasonable90 1 point2 points3 points 2 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You also have to consider that it is way easier for a bi person to find a straight person to date too.

Also, women are much harder to date because they expect you to win them for no reason. Even large numbers of straight men struggle to get a date from a woman due to unrealistic and unreasonable expectations placed on people who try to date women.

So not only would it be even harder for women to date women, there are a lot less of them.

And women also have a tendency to be very bigoted because they are allowed to get away with it. Treating straight men like predators just for being attracted to them, treating homosexual men like emotional tampon friends or pretending they have to have a “gay personality,” treating bisexual people as gross or fake, fetishizing African American men as exciting BBC sex toys or assuming they are dangerous just cuz, there hatred for transexuals, etc.

Have you ever seen women at gay bars? Many try to “convert” gay men thinking there sexuality is some sacred gift.

Or how women will frame black men, bi women or transwomen as creepy and dangerous just because they exist.

Like my wife was recently fired for trying to make a friend. Because she is bi, women claimed it was sexual harassment to talk to other women.

Women are even raping little boys and being allowed to teach again to rape more boys. Which is disgusting.

It is really disturbing that our culture allows straight white women to get away with so much that other groups could not get a way with. Imagine if a white man acted as afraid and creeped out as many white women do on camera, rape children while calling the child groomed or raped is “lucky” or rush onto a soccer field to molest a bunch of soccer players like women get away with.

So women who identify as bi might struggle to sleep with a woman and only be stuck being able to sleep with men. Or they might just not know how to date women for our culture worships women’s sexuality waaaay too much.

Just look at this thread. Tons of women hating bi men for even being attracted to men and the bullshit they use to frame it as okay.

Our culture values women’s sexuality too much. Women need to be taught to check their privileges like everyone else.

Women are equal to everyone else, not superior. They are just as evil, bigoted and flawed as everyone else.

"I think this research should to put to rest the idea that men are the ones upholding masculine norms, not women."

Why is that? You state your evidence, then your conclusion. You forgot your argument.

If you're averse to dating bisexual men then you are upholding the norm of male heterosexuality, part of the masculine gender role.

[–]tritter211Pragmatic (iama man btw) -3 points-2 points-1 points 2 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

wrong conclusion.

Women don't like bisexual men for the same reason why men don't like to date slutty women.

I usually stay clear of any thread with men saying "men will fuck anything that moves" because that's never been my experience. But unfortunately, a sizable portion of men think having very low standards is normal.

[–]MyLastBestChancePurple Pill Woman -5 points-4 points-3 points 2 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

Or…you’re deciding not to date someone when there’s a very real possibility that you won’t be able to fully meet their sexual needs or desires in the long term.

[–]AI_CODE_MONKEYSaddam-Pilled Man[S] 2 points3 points4 points 2 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Do you think there's anything wrong with men not wanting to date bi girls?

[–]MyLastBestChancePurple Pill Woman 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

No. I think people are absolutely justified in preferring to date those who have the same sexuality. Why would that be wrong?

[–]JonMyMonPurple Pill Man 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Because you’re not disqualifying someone based on aesthetic preference, you’re disqualifying them based on prejudice. If you said you don’t want to date a black person because you don’t like the way black people look, there’s nothing wrong with that. If you said you don’t want to date a black person cause they’re statistically more likely to assault you, that would be prejudice.

thats biphobic. people dont cheat more or inately want polygamy or anything like that just because they are bi. thats grossly ignorant.

[–]MyLastBestChancePurple Pill Woman 3 points4 points5 points 2 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I didn’t say anything about cheating…I didn’t even imply anything about cheating. Why would I want to enter into a relationship with someone when they are likely to have needs and desires that I can’t fulfill? It’s far more likely that either the relationship will end or they will have to live with forgoing a major part of their sexuality being expressed than if I date a purely heterosexual man.

That’s not biphobic in any way I can see.

[–]Anansi3003No Pill 7 points8 points9 points 2 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

im not sure how else to formulate it. You are implying it. by saying you cant fully meet their sexual needs you are both misrepresenting bisexual people into a stereotype, they dont have to have sex with both genders, thats wholly subjective.

and given the context of the dogma going around its just expected that cheating is what is meant.

[–]JonMyMonPurple Pill Man 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So then… if you genuinely believe that they’re not getting their needs meet… I have a very simple question: who should date bisexual people? Should they all just enter into foursomes?

Ok I personally am not averse to bi men. But --

Let's say that women overall are more averse to dating bi people than men as your study may indicate. And you're saying it seems biphobia = upholding masculine gender roles. I'm not sure I agree with that, although biphobia is problematic for other reasons. But moving on from that--

If I accept this argument, it is just one aspect of the masculine gender role. Your conclusion is quite overstated based upon your evidence and argument.

Edit: fixed language to match language of study conclusion as quoted.

[–]AI_CODE_MONKEYSaddam-Pilled Man[S] 7 points8 points9 points 2 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

If I accept this argument, it is just one aspect of the masculine gender role. Your conclusion is quite overstated based upon your evidence and argument.

It isn't. Every time the topic of masculine gender roles gets brought up there's always some feminist bitch yapping about how it's other men enforcing them. That's what I was referring to. I don't need to address every single aspect of masculinity to refute that.

[–]SleepyPoemsin2020 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

Your study concludes with women may be more concerned about bi partners. Even if that isn't a "may," men could still be far more responsible in enforcing the norms insofar that women's biphobia isn't what's keeping them in place.

[–]AI_CODE_MONKEYSaddam-Pilled Man[S] 3 points4 points5 points 2 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

I think women denying men sexual and romantic intimacy due to failure to adhere to masculine norms is a far stronger enforcement mechanism than other men name calling.

[–]SleepyPoemsin2020 -1 points0 points1 point 2 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

[–]AI_CODE_MONKEYSaddam-Pilled Man[S] 2 points3 points4 points 2 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

No shit. Your ultimate conclusion is still too broad.

[–]Maffioze25M egalitarian 3 points4 points5 points 2 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

No, because this biphobia is part of upholding the masculine gender role. Women enforce masculinity in men while simultaneously blaming it for a lot of evils in the word. People just don't wanna admit it.

[–]SleepyPoemsin2020 1 point2 points3 points 2 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Amazing how straight men will try to make themselves the victim because of bigotry aimed towards another group

[–]Maffioze25M egalitarian 2 points3 points4 points 2 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

That's not what I said lmao. This bigotry is part of women pressuring men to act masculine, I don't know why it's so hard to understand and/or acknowledge that.

[–]SleepyPoemsin20202 points 2 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I disagree with what you're saying, and find it annoying that straight men are trying to coopt biphobia as hurting them when it hurts another group.

[–]Maffioze2 points 2 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Biphobia does not hurt me, but the masculine gender role does, and it's inherently connected to biphobia.

And yes women pressuring men to act masculine hurts straight men and this is factually the case. This isn't really something you can even disagree with, it's supported by studies. The study OP posted says women are less likely to date bisexual men because they are perceived as less masculine. If being perceived as less masculine by women harms your dating opportunities as a man, then it means women are enforcing some kind of gender role.

[–]SleepyPoemsin20202 points 2 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Where does the quoted material say women won't date bi men because they are less masculine? They were rated as less masculine but I don't see that the quote says this was the cause of why women may be more concerned about bi partners. Seems to me you're assuming that.

But biphobia in general isn't just about masculine vs not masculine, and trying to fit it into that box to make straight men the victim...is just well, lol

[–]Maffioze2 points 2 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Where does the quoted material say women won't date bi men because they are less masculine? They were rated as less masculine but I don't see that the quote says this was the cause of why women may be more concerned about bi partners. Seems to me you're assuming that.

It's very plausible to make that assumption, since they are rated less masculine, and dated less often, and since other studies find that women prefer masculine and dominant men. Your assumption that it doesn't matter at all is way less plausible than my assumption in the light of the evidence.

But biphobia in general isn't just about masculine vs not masculine, and trying to fit it into that box to make straight men the victim...is just well, lol

Based on what are you making that claim? Your ideology? Your gut feeling? There is enough evidence to question your claim. I'm not trying to make anyone the victim, I'm trying to understand the root of the problem and its connection to other things. And it's very much relevant as well because we have a powerfull ideology here that doesn't stroke with actual evidence, yet people keep defending it.

[–]SleepyPoemsin20201 point 2 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

You said the study said women won't date bi men because they're less masculine. That is incorrect of the quoted material--actually parts of two separate studies. Whether it is plausible or not, that was mischaracterizing the evidence presented.

I'm not saying and have never assumed it doesn't matter at all. I'm not saying it does or doesn't. The conversation you jumped into was me telling OP I found that his conclusion was not fully supported by his argument / evidence, and me disagreeing that biphobia is necessarily about upholding masculine gender roles.

I made two claims in the second quote. Which one are you referring to?

[–]Maffioze2 points 2 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

You said the study said women won't date bi men because they're less masculine. That is incorrect of the quoted material--actually parts of two separate studies. Whether it is plausible or not, that was mischaracterizing the evidence presented.

It's not incorrect, it's an interpretation of those studies in the context of other studies that make it plausible to assume its indeed causal. Why wouldn't it be?

I'm not saying and have never assumed it doesn't matter at all. I'm not saying it does or doesn't. The conversation you jumped into was me telling OP I found that his conclusion was not fully supported by his argument / evidence, and me disagreeing that biphobia is necessarily about upholding masculine gender roles.

Sure I agree that his conclusion is not fully supported. But it isn't fully unsupported either. These studies indeed suggest women play a role in perpetuating gender roles, yet people can't accept it somehow. These aren't the only studies either, the idea that it's mainly men doing it to other men isn't really supported by anything but gut feelings and ideological circlejerking. Imo his conclusion is partly accurate, but not just because of these studies, because of other studies as well.

And biphobia is not solely about upholding gender norms but its definitely a part of it.

Both claims honestly. You claiming it has little to do with masculinity and gender norms and also you claiming I'm trying to make straight men victims. It's not even about victimisation, it's about gender norms. And obviously yes, bisexual men do suffer most from this specific problem, but this specific problem does not exist in a vacuum. There is way too little attention on how women perpetuate gender norms, even feminist women. Even most of feminist ideology follows traditional gender norms but then they just blame everything on men never looking inwards. This is a problem for both men and women, it's a way to downplay the agency of women and to overplay the agency of men. It has nothing to do with playing the victim, it has to do with calling a problem a problem. It can't be that men are blamed for masculine behaviour while at the same time women enforce it through their own actions. This isn't a sustainable solution to actually help people.

[–]ilike18yoblackpussy 5 points6 points7 points 2 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

First of all, there are legit reasons for women to avoid bisexual men. One is diseases. Men who have sex with men (MSM) are at higher disease risk. Man on man sex practices often carry a higher risk of infections, not to mention MSM generally being more promiscuous. Men in general are less picky in terms of sexual partners. We know this from straight men trying to fuck even unattractive women. Now apply that to men fucking other men, and you get a lot of promiscuity and freakiness because there's no one to say "no".

Secondly, I saw a study that said almost all of the men who ID'd themselves as bisexual showed a distinct preference for sex with men over women. So having a relationship with a bisexual man is a great way for a woman to have a bf/husband who will repeatedly cheat on her with other men.

Third, a lot of women do have sex/relationships with bisexual men, whether knowingly or not. I've heard of many examples. There are so many celebrity men who've been rumored to be gay or actually exposed as gay who've been married, had kids, etc. Elton John, David Bowie, Clive Davis, Dwight Howard, Little Richard, and many others.

Fourth, a lot of men like easy sex. Women are harder to have sex with than men. I don't know why bisexual men would bother with women, tbh, when they can get easier sex from other men. Especially since a lot of them seem to have a sexual preference for other men based on the study I saw. Some straight men bang hookers for the same reason- because they're easier and less trouble to fuck than regular women.

[–]justforlulz12345Jester Pill / Misanthropilled -1 points0 points1 point 2 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

  1. That same argument is used to justify slut shaming

  2. That’s because sex with men is easier to get. Not cheating is kind of the whole point of commitment, infidelity is a bad person thing not a bisexual thing.

  3. Those guys are celebrities. Superstars. They are icons but they don’t represent the average bi experience.

  4. Because I want pussy too. If you only ate pizza all day you’d want some pasta for a change wouldn’t ya?

  • Bowie was plowing pussy during mostly decades of rampant drug use and casual sex (60s, 70s, etc)

You said what you said…cool but that doesn’t make anything I said not true.

A component of what made him attractive is his stardom. Realistically if you took David Bowie…and changed his name and made him not who he was his odd androgynous/feminine body would most definitely not be most women’s cup of tea…

[–]ornamentalwallpapertripping on puberty blockers 2 points3 points4 points 2 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Would be some women's cup of tea. Tate looks attractive if we compared looks alone. Though his brother is more good-looking. But, David Bowie just looks better than both of them, I might have a fetish or something, or there might be some weird hormons pumped into my chicken (I am not on birth control) - this preference for androgyny obviously exists in a segment of female population.

Speaking of Tate. It's not the cloud of public scandal surrounding Tate that makes women not prefer him, it's mostly the fact that he is noisy and can't shut the fuck up - when he talks it's like a giant penis drilling through my eardrums. By the way, according to manosphere the fact that he might be a trafficker and an abuser is supposed to turn women on because this makes him UnTaMeD and oh-so-enigmatically DaNgErOuS.

It is still two men

If one is drawn in an extremely feminized "bishonen" style and acts like an hysterical vulnerable stereotypical woman whilst always taking the receptive position in anal sex, contrasted against an older/taller/bigger/more masculine partner who provides protection and provision whilst always taking the insertive position in anal sex, that is pseudo-heterosexual, not gay.

It doesn't even match real-world male-male relationships with a power dynamic/fixed roles. In the real male/male BDSM scene, the psychology behind it is quite different to what we see in Yaoi or 95% of Slash.

and at least part born out of a desire to see men in submit positions.

Are you arguing that heterosexual femdom isn't heterosexual?

You also seem to be presuming that in any fictional representation of a power-dynamic situation, the submissive is the object of desire. I don't think that's true. As someone whom has seen a LOT of slash and yaoi, and has even written some slash fanfic (I have no shame about it), the sub/uke is almost always the audience surrogate and the dom/seme is the object of desire.

I don't deny that exceptions exist but the vast majority (at least 70% in my experience) of slash and yaoi consists of pseudo-heterosexual porn... two males forced into a stereotypical-bodice-ripper novel where one is the "man" and the other is the "woman"... written with the "woman" as the audience proxy character through whom the audience gets its fantasy fulfilled.

Absolutely not true. I known of many fandoms where women will put their favourite male character in the sub position to further make them the object of desire.

of slash and yaoi consists of pseudo-heterosexual porn

You're assuming that this is heterosexualily. Heterosexuality doesn't have to work this way and two men together is by nature, not heterosexuality.

There's a book about this called Girls Who Like Boys Who Like Boys that explains a lot of this, with surveys and interviews. It explains that a major reason it is popular with women is because women find it helpful to "borrow a male gaze" in order to comfortably objectify and sexualize men.

Absolutely not true. I known of many fandoms where women will put their favourite male character in the sub position to further make them the object of desire.

And I've seen exactly the opposite across a wide variety of fandoms too. So since neither of us are lying, this implies either one or both of our experiences is unrepresentative. Or maybe some fandoms are disproportionately attractive to Dommes and I've just never been in one of those.

You're assuming that this is heterosexualily. Heterosexuality doesn't have to work this way and two men together is by nature, not heterosexuality.

Sure, we can argue I shouldn't call it pseudo-heterosexuality. But, at least in my experience, at least 70% of slash fiction creates a "super traditional-gender-roles male-female" dynamic between two characters, both of whom are of male sex (even if only one of them looks like it). I allege that, frankly, this is because a lot (certainly not all!) of women into slash fanfic like to think of themselves as feminist and progressive but have traditionalistic sexual desires, and the cognitive dissonance is resolved by enjoying the fantasy in Yaoi format.

Let me be clear - I am not alleging that this is true of you in particular. I know that not all women into slash are just using it to PC-wash the kind of straight romance novel tropes feminists complain about. I also know some fangirls who detest the seme/uke bullshit. So I am merely speaking of a subset, albeit one I believe is likely the majority (or at least makes the majority of the fanfics).

There's a book about this called Girls Who Like Boys Who Like Boys that explains a lot of this, with surveys and interviews. It explains that a major reason it is popular with women is because women find it helpful to "borrow a male gaze" in order to comfortably objectify and sexualize men.

I've never read that book but I'll take a look at it. Interestingly though, I've read another book that explains (among other things) many Fujoshi/Slash Fangirls as having a case of internalized sexual orientation (Phil Illy's Auto-Heterosexual). And I've certainly met slash fangirls whom are auto-androphilic.

There is potentially some truth to this. Research on female arousal indicates that self-identified "lesbian" women also respond to male stimuli. You spend too much time online.

"In the mid-1990s, estimates of the size of the Japanese yaoi fandom ranged from 100,000 to 500,000 people.[18] By April 2005, a search for non-Japanese websites resulted in 785,000 English, 49,000 Spanish, 22,400 Korean, 11,900 Italian, and 6,900 Chinese sites.[216] In January 2007, there were approximately five million hits for yaoi.[217]"

These numbers are tiny even compared to more conventional shojo stuff when you consider Japan alone has a population of approx 60 million women and 25% of yaoi consumers are men. Yes the online fandom is loud but it's still just a few weird autistic girls with no real life outlet. Go to any bookstore and the romance books are overwhelmingly straight. Normal women don't consume this stuff.

[–]Salt_Mathematician24Blue Pill Woman 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm talking specifically about porn made by and for women. If you do the research, then women, left to their own devices, creating art, make way more gay male stuff than het and lesbian combined.

Women generally do not like porn and mainstream porn is marketed at men but when women get space and freedom to create stuff, this is what they create more than anything else. Heck, even Fifty Shades of Grey started as a fanfiction right? Well truth is most fanfic getting created by women is actually gay male fanfic.

https://fanlore.org/wiki/AO3_Ship_Stats_2021

I don't even consume this stuff myself these days but I spent a lot of time online when I was younger in female dominated spaces so I know the trend. I know women in real life that bring it up once they feel comfortable to.

Yaoi or slash-written-by-women is not really gay porn. 95% of the time its pseudo-heterosexual, with one of the men feminized into a sexist caricature.

Gay men are attracted to men, not cheap knockoff imitations of women. (This is not a trans phobic comment im referring to the heavily feminized bottoms in yaoi/BL)

[–]Familiesarenations 1 point2 points3 points 2 years ago* (14 children) | Copy Link

These are two very different things. Sexual orientation is a pretty big thing to lie about to your partner.

Edit: we can be as bigoted as we want in our dating choices. It doesn't matter if you don't agree with the other person's values, you still have to respect them. If you don't then you are violating their consent.

[–]BeReasonable90 4 points5 points6 points 2 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No, different people value things differently.

Many people would not care about a person’s orientation and care a lot about how many sex partners they had.

And the only people who will consider something sexual assault for having x sexual orientation and not disclosing it before sex as sexual assault are bigots.

You said "lying by omission", not "lying by omission about (specific thing)". A reasonable person would interpret this as you referring to a failure to disclose anything a partner might find undesirable.

And how and which differences between men and women relevant to this?

Your comment is laughable, as if saying "men and women are different" can be used to justify any gendered double standard.

What about a bisexual woman who does not disclose her orientation to men she dates? If she a rapist? If not then what justifies the double standard? Or do you just hate men?

You are doing Bi-erasure. another form of bi-phobia. lemme copypaste from wiki

“Bisexual erasure (or bi erasure), also called bisexual invisibility, is the tendency to ignore, remove, falsify, or re-explain evidence of bisexuality in history, academia, the news media, and other primary sources

In its most extreme form, bisexual erasure can include the belief that bisexuality itself does not exist. Bisexual erasure may include the assertion all bisexual individuals are in a phase and will soon "choose a side", either heterosexual or homosexual. Another common variant of bisexual erasure involves accepting bisexuality in women while downplaying or rejecting the validity of bisexual identity in men. One belief underlying bisexual erasure is that bisexual individuals are distinctively indecisive. Misrepresentations of bisexual individuals as hypersexual erases the sexual agency of bisexuals, effectively erasing their true identities as well.

Bisexual erasure is often a manifestation of biphobia, although it does not necessarily involve overt antagonism. Erasure frequently results in bisexual-identifying individuals experiencing a variety of adverse social encounters, as they not only have to struggle with finding acceptance within general society but also within the LGBT community. Bisexual erasure is a form of stigma and leads to adverse mental health consequences for people who identify as bisexual, or similar, such as pansexual.”

i’d hardly call it lying, sexual assault or coercion. Ultimately, why should it matter if someone is bi?

even then - that means lying about body count means its sexual assault or coercion (which it isn’t btw)

as for “why not just date men” - bisexual =/= biromanric. I might have fun sleeping with a man or having him as an fwb, but men aren’t relationship material to me

That is commendable, I will say - and like I said, at a personal level I do agree because complete openers is something I want to live by.

That being said, I certainly don’t condone actually lying (ex. saying you’re straight if you’re bi, or you’re a virgin if you’ve slept around), but also not sharing that information isn’t the worst thing in the world if the person doesnt ask. It’s not life altering, harmful or risky information (i mean, if one’s concern is STIs for example, a straight person can get them too, so sexuality isn’t really relevant)

If the rape victim is asked and knows what the opinion of this man in question is, she has two options:
- telling him the truth, si he can make a unconscious decision about his body and time.
- refused to answer and cut off relationship with this man.

What she cannot do is lying to him knowing that, that information is important to this guy. Something any normal person would understand and do... Entitled narcissist rapists with a victim complex like OP and his peers though...

i wouldn't have sex with someone knowing i have information that may make them change their mind.

I would choose not to sleep with them or disclose.

it def seems rapey, i would not be able to live w the guilt of having done this, esp since the cost of not doing it is so low.

I love all the comments saying that being attracted to men makes you slutty, diseased and unmanly. Like a bi dude can be a virgin and he's still a filthy AIDS demon in these womens eyes. These women are so insecure it's crazy. Also the "I jack off to gay porn so I can't be homophobic" argument LMAO

It’s hilarious how much bigotry women are allowed to get away with.

[–]AidsVictimPurple Pill Man 2 points3 points4 points 2 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

To be fair I always considered bisexual women to be a turn off as well. Strong exclusive desire for the opposite gender is more attractive to me than the implication that it doesn't matter too much what the body parts are.

A lot of gay men or bisexual men are married to cis women and their women are convinced they are straight. These women are usually oblivious and unsuspecting. They do not want to know the truth. That is why men get violent when found out.

Actually, none of it is saying where these norms come from, just a potential impact of these norms, that non-bisexual people aren't as likely to date bisexuals as the other way around. That could be due to norms constructed primarily by men. (Also, your conclusion isn't quite true. Even if you seriously want to hide your orientation from "serious" dates, it would be an advantage to tell bisexual women about it in any case, and gay men are likely to think less of you for it.)

Actually, none of it is saying where these norms come from

Where else could aversion to male homosexuality come from?

that non-bisexual people aren't as likely to date bisexuals as the other way around

I think it's funny how women always try to downplay the gendered aspect of things when it makes them look bad.

Hetero/bi women are FAR more averse to dating bisexual men than vice versa.

Even if you seriously want to hide your orientation from "serious" dates

I said the opposite. It's a good idea to hide it only if you're not really serious.

why do you think the red cross asks men if they have sex with other men?

Generally it's men who are showing disgust at male homosexuality much more blatantly and frequently so I suggest you start with that. Your own studies were showing it isn't gendered and happens to all bisexuals.

Do you have a source for this? Or are you just making things up (again)?

Your own studies were showing it isn't gendered

"Preferences against dating bisexual men appeared particularly strong, even among bisexual women"

"These results support previous research findings that indicate more negative attitudes toward dating bisexual men than bisexual women."

"suggesting that lesbians and heterosexual women may be more concerned than gay and heterosexual men about bisexual partners""

Look up who's initiating homophobic attacks or hate speech, for example. Look at who votes for and against pro-gay policies, like decriminalisation and gay marriage.

Look up who's initiating homophobic attacks or hate speech

Hate crimes targeted towards a homosexuals are a small sliver of the intolerance they face. And what does this even have to do with the topic? I am talking about homophobia broadly. Your comments are whataboutism.

Look at who votes for and against pro-gay policies, like decriminalisation and gay marriage.

Generally speaking the populace does not vote on policies, elected representatives do.

[–]januaryphilosopherWoman/20s/Irish/UK/Maths teacher/radfem/healthy BMI/bi/engaged -1 points0 points1 point 2 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Look at literally any kind of homophobic intolerance you can think of and who's doing it more then. There have been several referenda on these issues globally, even if that's not what happened where you live.

Look up who's initiating homophobic attacks or hate speech, for example. Look at who votes for and against pro-gay policies, like decriminalisation and gay marriage.

That's all irrelevant to the specific study /u/AI_CODE_MONKEY is citing.

Even if straight women may be nicer to gay men than straight men are, they are still more averse to dating bi men than straight men are to dating bi women.

Or are you trying to say something like "because we're less homophobic than straight men in some ways, we should ignore the ways in which we're more homophobic"? That a vote for same-sex marriage buys you "points" you can redeem to justify your own personal biases against bi men?

[–]januaryphilosopherWoman/20s/Irish/UK/Maths teacher/radfem/healthy BMI/bi/engaged 1 point2 points3 points 2 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm saying you shouldn't conflate aversion to homosexuality or upholding masculine norms with bisexual people not being your personal type in dating. There's nothing homophobic about not dating someone, just like there's nothing misogynist or misandrist about being straight or gay. If we look into actual homophobia, the trends aren't what are suggested here. I'm not part of this "we" - I am bi. I don't have "personal biases against bi men", even by your definition - I prefer dating bisexuals.

Do women have no agency of their own? Honestly some of the most misogynistic comments on here come from women desperately trying to absolve other women of accountability for their own behaviour

[–]januaryphilosopherWoman/20s/Irish/UK/Maths teacher/radfem/healthy BMI/bi/engaged -3 points-2 points-1 points 2 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I didn't say that. Indeed, they have agency to follow norms constructed primarily by men. They have agency to try to construct different norms, but these particular ones are mainly men's.

[–]Pitiful_Many3583Purple Pill Man 2 points3 points4 points 2 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What would a different norm look like for women in regard to dating bisexual men? If you truly believe that the seemingly female aversion to bi men isn’t based on their own tastes in masculinity?

Do you think a woman could will herself to find them sexually attractive?

Women seem so malleable in your world. Like they are just rooted to the ground and just twisting in the cultural winds. Very strange to me

[–]Jamiejones_11 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yea I've given up dating as a feminine guy that's kinda bi but only has interest in feminine people romantically:(

[–]Koalabearbabyyyxx 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

bruh seriously 😒

the reason why most women (not all) don’t want bisexual men is bcus they don’t want a man that also takes it up the arse by other men and kisses other men on the mouth. some people just aren’t into that.

btw i am one of those women who ARE into that so don’t even come for me, i just know how women think and i hear this stuff all the time.

i’m also a woman who loves women and won’t date other women who are bisexual bcus i will not compete with other men for a woman’s attention when there is no compare. bisexuals leave you for men or cheat with men bcus they want D or masculinity that’s missing in their wlw relationship.

Is it racist if a white man doesn't want a woman who has dated a black man?

[–]Eowyn_In_ArmorBlue Pill Woman 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I don’t know anything about all the research, but the only openly “bi” guys I had ever met were just 100% gay men slowly coming out. They never stayed “bi” for more than a few months.

That’s why whenever I heard a guy say he was bi, I wouldn’t pursue him. My assumption was, he’s mostly likely just gay but hasn’t fully come out yet. Why waste my time trying to get with someone who, from my own experience, isn’t into me in the most basic way.

[–]CalmNeedleworker3100Purple Pill Man 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Or maybe these bi men chose to identify as gay because too many women are biphobic, it's easier to just date men

For the same reasons straight women don't like bi men.

STDs, both view bi men as less masculine.

Eh, I guess. I wouldn't care though (: I've met some supposedly straight men that were pretty effeminate imo even though they'd die if they knew I'd define them like that.... But I guess I get what you're saying :)
