So Im a woman, fence sitter leaning towards being childfree, consider myself as a feminist, but I cant agree with the feminists on the issue whether or not men should be compelled to pay child support in a case of unwanted pregnancies. Im speaking right now about the women and men who live in the countries where the abortion is legal, attainable and the contraception is readily available. If the man says at the start, after being informed about pregnancy that he wants nothing to do with the potential child, he should be able to document that in the court, abandon his parental rights and should not be forced to pay a child support if the woman decides to progress with the pregnancy. The arguments I see against this stance are usually hypocritical: if he didnt want to risk the pregnancy he should have kept it in his pants, men are responsible for 100% of unwanted pregnancies, etc etc. But are not these arguments the same prolifers use to justify abortion bans? Aka she should have kept her legs closed. I strongly believe, that if the man decides that he wants nothing to do with the pregnancy, a woman is giving birth just for herself (i think that the belief that women having children is the sacrifice done for the men, so they have the right to hold that over their heads is false)so she should be able to create ways to support the said child or get an abortion.
