I would guess that the more extroverted intelligent men out there have no problem getting to know women and might even be better at it than less intelligent men, while the more introverted men out there might have more problems. In general, I don’t think that a correlation can be made between intelligence and ability to meet women.

If think the smarter and mpore educated the person is the more they tend to overthink. And overthinking is a thing that can give you a hard time meeting women. They tend to run various scenarios in their head before talking to a woman. And by the time they run their senarios the moment has passed. Analysis paralysis is a bitch.

The men who "party and are good for nothing" tend meet women because they don't overthink. They see a woman they want to strike a convo, they just go and strike the convo. They just go for it.

Basically, overthinking is the culprit.

I think it's got more to do with neuroticism and overthinking than just being smart.

I have glaringly obvious appearance issues that meant I missed out on a lot of things most people in their teens and early twenties take for granted, but now those are becoming less of an issue there's still the problem that I've become even more shy, over analytical, and lacking in confidence - even though in other areas (e.g. work - I'm a lawyer / tax consultant) I have no problems.

I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of similar guys (with or without way below average looks) have followed the same path. Starting out as shy or booksmart etc. with only negative attention from most others, and subsequently overthinking things / retreating into their shell.

I think it's true for several reasons.

1) if you are spending all your time studying, you are probably boring and lame to women.

2) while you are spending all your time studying, Chad is just there at the right time.

3) you are studying more than you're at the gym or at parties.

4) you are probably smart enough not to waste money on a car you can't afford or the hottest sneakers currently in style. Therefore making you less attractive.

5) it's pretty much illegal to even approach women where you spend the most of your time (ie work and school).

"Intelligence" comes in many different forms. Some types of intelligence will help you with women (and with "making friends and influencing people" in general), while others are neutral, or even detrimental if it comes at the cost of other skills.

Of the 8 primary forms of intelligence:

Logical-mathematical intelligence - This will probably not help you with dating and can hurt you if you are too reliant on consistent outcomes, as humans are not predictable and do not function on algorithm.
Linguistic intelligence - This would help you immensely in dating and hookups. The ability to converse and make it enjoyable, to listen as well as contribute, to know the impact of your words and actions and control what that impact is not only opens doors, but makes platonic friends want to introduce you to their other friends, because talking to you is fun and easy
Spatial Intelligence - Neutral-to-positive. Spatial intelligence is how people navigate, organize, assemble, decorate ect. Many of these things can make us more attractive.
Musical Intelligence - Neutral to positive. It's harder to show off this intelligence in the wild, but it clearly benefits musicians in the dating world to have high musical intelligence.
Bodily-kinesthetic Intelligence - Very helpful; this is sports, dancing, climbing, motor control ect. One of the easiest ways to connect to other humans is to share physical activities.
Intrapersonal Intelligence - Very helpful; commonly called "self-awareness". Introspective intelligence helps us understand ourselves and what we really want.
Interpersonal Intelligence - VERY helpful. Also called "social skills" - the ability to understand how other people think and act.
Naturalistic intelligence - Neutral to positive; the ability to understand how life functions in the natural order.

So nah, I don't think it really hinders. Saying "women won't date me because I'm too smart" is a p obvious cope.

They're meeting lots of women because they're partying, dingus. Parties are HOW you meet people.

"Men who party" can also be intelligent men who are good for many things. And men who "don't party" can also be good for nothing. Being socially intelligent is an extremely useful skill that has myriad applications.

If you want to meet people, the intelligent thing to do would be to learn how to be social. Not insult people who are better at it than you.

Well yes, you meet people at parties. You aren't going to meet anyone by sitting at home reading a book. Introverted people tend to come across as more intelligent, even compared to extroverts who are objectively equally intelligent. Luckily, people are able to do multiple things, it's easy enough to study and party and that makes you more attractive than just doing one.

Elon got women in college because he comes from money. If Elon didn’t have any of those things he would rarely get women because he’s weird as fuck.

The trend might reverse with age. Smart people earn more money, take better care of themselves, attain higher social status, etc. They progressively reap the benefits of all these factors as time goes on, and have a lot to show for it in later life.

I think the stronger correlation is with emotional intelligence.

Traditional intelligence in the way people use the term correlates to more successful, higher earning individuals. So that also helps obviously. If a girl herself is intelligent than presumably she'll want a guy she can have deep, meaningful conversations with long-term.

I recall reading that research has shown that there is a high correlation between intelligence and social anxiety. The higher your IQ, the higher the chance your social apprehension is higher than usual (not necessarily to the point that requires intervention or medication, but probably enough to hinder enjoying parties and approaching women). The most successful men I know are those that are intelligent and educated AND that have overcome their social anxiety. Usually, that means repeated exposure (ex: force yourself to do networking events, parties, speed dating, introducing yourself, making small talk, initiating plans with acquaintances so you can become friends, etc.). I get it - I was a socially anxious child (and it turns out my intelligent husband was socially anxious too as a young child!). We both outgrew it by about high school - for me it was a combination of having friends who were more outgoing and realizing that we all tend to overthink (and understanding spotlight fear/effect). Intelligence and education is always a plus! It’s the social apprehension that often comes with this (think: STEM) that is a negative. If a person can overcome the latter, they would be doing well in the dating game!

Amongst my “intelligent cohorts” there’s plenty of people who are social and get laid. There’s plenty of people who approached women without “getting analysis paralysis” lmao.

The real problem is you’re only seen as intelligent when you’re acting a certain way. Everyone in my HS thought I was a dumbass. Turned out I was one of the 3/140 of us who went to a good college, of those 3 tied for going to the best one, and I got the largest scholarship of everyone by a margin of 30k/year. But I was seen as “dumb” because I have fun lol

Part of the answer is hidden in your post, and you don't even know it. Nerds trend heavily towards having a superiority complex. You can see it right there in the, "men who party and are good for nothing..." where you make it plain that as far you're concerned they're not even close to being on your level despite their successes juxtaposed with your failures.

Note that I said nerds, and not smart people. They are not one and the same. Nerds certainly have a Venn overlap with the set of smart people, but they don't make up the majority of that particular set. Nerds are predisposed towards two specific behaviors that are extremely off-putting to most people.

They cannot let things go. Like a dog to a cuff, nerds will latch on to a subject and drone on and on with no regard to the interest of the audience. Hell, often, repeated attempts to change the subject will fail when nerds are involved because true to form, they'll doggedly steer the conversation right back towards tedium.
The most important: They cannot let anyone be wrong, ever. Everyone knows this guy, and secretly wants to scribble "Well, actually..." on his tombstone after he's gone. Carried to the extreme (read a large swath of redditors) the other person doesn't even have to be actually wrong, just not in agreement with said nerd.

I might not be smart, and I'm certainly not educated (formally), but I'd wager my egalitarian approach to life has benefited me more than your intelligence OP. I don't believe that I'm better than anyone, and by extension I don't believe anyone is better than I am. The way I treat the entire world is predicated on that very simple philosophy. Maybe, just maybe, step 1 for you OP is to realize that you aren't any better than these men who are in your words good for nothing.

I noticed the absolute opposite.

The more intelligent the man is, the usually more socially intelligent he is as well, and thus better at socialising or flirting with women.

But the curious thing is, the most intelligent guys are usually not the ones iwth the absolute highest n-count, but those whos relationships are the best and happiest (highest quality releationship with a highest quality woman they can find).

There is this insidious and stupid idea, perpetrated by media and now TRP, that intelligent men are socially awkward or inept. THis is almost completely wrong. High IQ men are almost always charming and interesting to everybody.

The confusion comes from mistaking nerdiness with intelligence,

Nerdiness/geekiness =/= intelligence, and

Intelligence =/= awkward nerd

Nerds sometimes appear intelligent because they pursue brainy interestes and focus enough on them to appear competent, but they are NOT truly intelligent, nor even truly competent, just appear so to a casual glance.

Hihgly intelligent and educated men (I mean 130+IQ and at least Masters Degree or above), are almost always charismatic and relatively good with women because (looks aside) charming-up women is a learnable skill, like chess or math or linguistics.

You can do a self test for that. You don't have to be smart for that. Stop engaging in social media for a month. Stop reading news. Stop being plugged in into the information machine. The 24/7 blast of mostly negative information makes you depressed. The more you know about current world events, societal issues and so on the more negative you become.

If you life a blissful ignorant life outside of all this information you actually become more happy and outgoing.

I don't think it has anything to do with being smart. More with being over informed.

It's not the intelligence/education itself that's the reason they find it harder to meet women. That intelligence/education is a byproduct and coping/salvaging mechanism for the shitty hand they were dealt. Whereas those that party and care less can do so because they were dealt a relatively better hand in life. And that coping mechanism isn't even always effective as women will always feel a primal sexual urge for the latter guy in comparison to the former. Think of all the girls that kept dating a deadbeat dude for seemingly no reason, that was the reason. There is an innate animalistic urge that draws them to him, one that the former guy will always pale in comparison to.

The higher the IQ the fewer the partners is a science fact. Smart people have less sex and wait longer to have sex in relationships. It makes perfect sense.

Also people overestimate the intelligence of the ones they are attracted to (Halo Effect sort of thing). Men and women do it but with women its even more pronounced. They’ll overestimate their boyfriends IQ by 40-50 points. When they breakup I imagine that IQ estimate goes the other way lol.

You see it in business too. The people who look good and dress well are treated as if they are smarter and better workers than the rest.

So a man or woman who is good looking with say 92 IQ will be seen as “smart” even though they are pretty average.

This is why if you work in a social setting it’s very important to look your best.

OK, just to put myself on the "intelligent" side of things, and I am being generous with numbers, here.

The answer is, "Yes and no."

Picking up women has never been difficult; they have as high of a sex drive as men do, if not more so, you just have to know how to get them over their social conditioning to hide and repress it.

"Knowing what buttons to push," to put it in vulgar, manipulative language... which is part of the problem: I feel like a cad, especially if it's a naive or less intelligent woman that I am manipulating into trying to impress me enough to have sex with me. PUA in a nutshell.

The, "No," part is related: There are fewer women who interest me. One-night stands are boring; mutual masturbation, what's the point? I want a woman that I can have a conversation with.

So, IQ over 130; that's 2% of the population, right off the bat. "In my range of attractiveness," which we'll just lay out as a 3-point spread (5-8/10, say), and we're down to 0.6% of women. Add in age bracket of 35-45...

Where do I meet these women? They aren't hanging out in bars or going to a lot of parties. The problem with OLD is that women get buried in matches, and they would have to dig me out of the other 50 guys who have vaguely the right profile.

College? Forget it, "everyone" goes to college, now, so it doesn't mean anything, and I'm not impressed by the level of education you get out of it, anymore.

Work? I'm an industrial engineer and jack-of-all-trades troubleshooter for manufacturing; there are almost no women in my field. The only women I work with tend to be either secretaries/assistants, or legal/executive types, none of whom are known for having deep, introspective personalities.

People of lower comprehension are often unable to identify people of higher comprehension. It takes intelligence to spot intelligence.

Actually, people of lower comprehension will often think those who are intellectually above them are morons, or are pretending to look smart by using big words. And there's a modest gap between male-female IQ towards the high end.

I'd say OPs hypothesis has some merit, but shouldn't be treated as a rule. Probably won't find much support here, because social intelligence is not the same thing as other kinds of intelligence, but people of lower comprehension won't be able to figure that out. And most of us aren't above 120 IQ.

A “high value” person would have intelligence and social skills. The smarter and more educated someone is, the higher their standards, usually. This is true for women as well. Every “smart guy” I know wants a smart woman, but isn’t willing to compromise on looks. Which is understandable tbh, if you can’t have a satisfying conversation with someone and also be attracted to them, what’s the point? But the problem is, some of these guys don’t have the best hygiene and certainly don’t know how to style themselves, and smart, attractive women aren’t going to be flocking to them. They look sloppy, and mostly attract sloppy women that they don’t want.

Now of course this isn’t always the case. Sometimes it’s just that more intellectual types of people aren’t as social, and that’s always going to make dating a lot harder. That’s why men who “party and are good for nothing” tend to meet women - they party. And that’s also why I would specify that it’s intellectual types that might struggle more. There are many types of intelligence that are only going to help with dating, like interpersonal intelligence. But if you are the type to stay home and study vs going out, that’s going to mean meeting fewer people and casting a smaller net. I say it over and over, but being social is THE #1 most important thing with dating. Looks are secondary, doesn’t matter how you look if you aren’t regularly socializing with single people.

This thread is full of cope. First of all, whatever multiple intelligences you can come up with, be it math, music or language, they all correlate with each other, they all come from the same thing, the g-factor. This g factor, of course, correlates well with social skills.

This makes perfect sense, intelligence is nothing more than the ability to solve problems (the more intelligence you have, the faster you can solve those problems and the more complex they can be). It stands to reason that figuring out how to talk to women and get them in bed is a problem an intelligent person can solve, especially if you believe in a concept like AWALT.

I know we like to pretend life has trade offs for everyone (i.e., smarter person is less athletic or vice versa) and while that may be true in the aggregate, sometimes there are people out there like Dolph Lundgren that are conventionally attractive, tall, athletic, with 150+ IQs and probably also have massive dicks.

Drop the cope and figure out what you have going on for you that can help you succeed. If you have nothing then at least find solace in the fact you never had a chance to begin with and didn't do anything wrong.

Men and women who are highly educated simply date less, have less sex and procreate WAY less even when in married or committed relationships.

It probably comes down more to personality types and socialization models than IQ per se. Given two men of the same personality type and social experience, the higher IQ (up to a point) one is likely going to be more successful with women for various reasons.

But I think it's also true that IQ and academic tendencies correlate with certain personality types, which again correlates with likelihood of socialization experiences or certain inherited/observed social models.

Stereotypes about math or computer nerds or whatever aren't totally unfounded because you do see certain personality types more prevalent in those fields (obviously there's still diversity within those fields) and they tend to have worse social experiences.

Not everyone finds the same things "fun" or prefers to socialize in the same way and as modern socialization opportunities narrow these men get worse and worse results (women too but to a much lesser degree). The stereotypical house party or bar experience has become so prevalent as a social model people forget (or don't care) that a huge amount of the population never found partners that way, but through family relations, social clubs, churches etc, networks which are greatly reduced or simply absent in large sections of modern (in particular highly urbanized) society. And the other models are/were more likely to be engaged with by people with certain personality types (i.e. the high IQ "nerd" type).

That's why the advice posted here of "uhmm women like fun guys at parties? Duh?" or "Why aren't you at the bar hanging out?" is mostly useless advice to a large section of men (arguably more than ever before due to technologys/modern societies effects on socializiation)

I feel like school is a great place to meet people so idk about this take. There are more women in academia then men so the ratio is in your favor. Also educated men are more likely to marry. I think education is actually a huge plus for a man. A lot of educated guys I know have gfs and do well with women.

Very true. I know a gal who claims to be a "sapiosexual" someone primarily attracted to intelligence. She's dating a dumb guy who makes a lot of money, rejects smart guys often. So if even the women who claim to like smart guys, aren't dating smart guys, it goes to show that they are least have higher priorities.
