The impact of prostitution on the dating market, gender dynamics, etc. is extremely overrated by Americans. I live in Germany, where prostitution is handled very liberally and it doesn't change a lot.

American manosphere posters have this fantasy where, after prostitution is legalized, men go on some sort of mass strike and walk out on regular dating, but it simply doesn't work that way.

From what people in countries with it legal have said, it doesn’t really change anything.

But in the US there is a slow trend towards “de criminalization” while not necessarily making it legal

For example NYPD has stated that outside of human trafficking cases they are not going to bother investigating escorts/prostitues. Part of it is cause they look at it as a “victimless crime” if both parties are consenting adults. And another part is with Venmo, PayPal it’s hard to even tell

Did that guy at the bar just pick up an escort and pay her and go back to his hotel? Or did those two match on OLD and then met up to hookup?
Who can tell without now getting a warrant to look into those phones? And who want to do all that only to find out they were just a hookup?

So while it’s not “legal” it’s also not exactly being investigated

This is way too optimistic. For a lot of men in this sub - and irl - the core desire is to be wanted, sexually and emotionally, by an attractive and moral woman. "What if I'm not the most intense relationship she's ever had?", "What if she's settling?", and "What kind of better, more interesting sex did she have with Chad?" are questions that consume them whole. Legalized prostitution doesn't touch on these fundamental insecurities even a little.

Also, men play a part in furthering other men's neuroses. "I got a hot girl to sleep with me because she wanted to" is always going to a bigger flex than "I paid for a hooker", regardless of whether the latter is legal.

It should not be legal when only a tiny tiny minority do it out of their own free will. For every prostitute who does it without any problems there are 20 that are either forced through trafficking, addiction, poverty or mental health problems.

Even in countries where it's legal such as Germany they have huge issues with trafficking.

That's not a moral argument. Murder, theft, rape, andkidnapping are old and exist everywhere. That doesn't make them moral. Computer programmer is a relitively new proffession, that doesn't make ot immoral.

There's also the illusion that legalisong it, will mean there is no longer a black market, which is not true.

Women have a very disproportionate amount of power in dating and in relationships because they basically decide when or if sex happens. Even in many marriages, it's tied to doing something transactional that benefits her with sex as the reward. Women even get a tremendous amount of power and attention from just the suggestion of sex, from wearing sexy and revealing clothing (often in inappropriate places) to flirting with no expectation of anything else happening in their minds.

Easy, quick and immediate access to sex with an escort destroys that power. Of COURSE many women are against it! Even with all of the massive gains women have made in society, soooo many women choose to sexually objectify themselves for the power it gives them. You see it on social media, at social events in real life, and even standing in line in the supermarket or the bank. Women KNOW the power that their sexual appeal holds, thus prostitutes are a threat! Prostitutes in many cases are younger and better looking as well and they know this.

They won't tell you the real reason why though, so they try to shame men by saying it's immoral because some prostitutes do it against their will or you are a loser because you can't attract women otherwise.

Take note. If a woman is attempting to shame a man for doing something. It's usually something that affects her in a negative way but she is not willing to tell you the real reason why because that would be socially embarrassing for her. So instead, she uses the passive-aggressive technique of trying to shame men by hitting at their pride or something she knows men might be sensitive over. Once you see it that way, not only do you see how often women try to do this, but how ridiculous it is.

Eh, as an "incel"/39yo virgin, I would say what would have helped me would have been a sex positive culture with less stigma and that those dating apps weren't the go to option for everyone. I don't know what is going on behind the scenes but the apps don't work at all and Reddit works very well (the anonymity is for sure a part of it though, it let's you be bolder).

Its legal where I live. It doesn't really affect dating dynamics though since legal sex workers can charge 300+ dollars a session and be selective of their clientele. I know some union truck drivers who make good money who do it but a lot of that is ego too, since once a sex worker realizes that you can actually afford that service regularly they'll blow up your phone and reverse the dating dynamic. I also know some male sex workers or former sex workers who in turn hire women.

But the reality is that at the prices a legal sex worker can set, an average man is actually deterred from using them regularly simply because the price it takes for them to be willing to do this means seeing a client once is basically a full day of work money wise.

Agree, decriminalized at the very least. Of course, human trafficking and other types of exploitation should be prosecuted with utmost severity- but let’s give girls an opportunity to get help from the authorities if they were done wrong by clients or managers.

As a Christian, I’d like to see the world where prostitution just ceases to exist and sex is reserved for marriage, but it’s a fallen world, so gotta do our best to at least protect the vulnerable.
