I think it’s basic supply and demand. On average women have a lower sex drive than men. Significant lower.

So if the average man’s (the 50th percentile) sex drive is wanting sexual activity 3-4 times a week the average female sex drive is 24 to 29 points lower.

If you could directly measure sex drive than made bell curves of the drives and laid the male and female one on top of each other the 50th percentile of the male curve would line up somewhere between the 71st and 76st percentile of the female curve.

The one that doesn’t want sex as much is going to feel pressure from the one that does and it will feel very one-sided.

I'll give you some reasons a woman could think this. Please note, I've never thought sex was something men do to women. However, I will say, it seems like a lot of men think sex is something they do to women for them:

Men telling women that it reduces that woman's value if she has sex, but oddly does not reduce a man's value when he has sex. Kind of foundationally suggests that sex is something "done to women" and a "one-sided thing". All the men here saying marriage means they get sex. Honestly, you can read almost any thread you like here and get the looming sense that as a woman, you taking pleasure in sex is tangential at best and even that is mostly about a man feeling like he's better than other men or a good man. You get the sense easily from most threads here that men think sex is about them and something owed to them by...being born?
People discuss the orgasm gap, which is real, but I think this is just a deeper symptom. From the very first time men started directing their sexual intentions at me, most were telling me what they would "do to me". Note, they did not say, "with". And they would tell me I would enjoy it, and even when I was like, "nah chief, that thing ain't for me, go fish", they would insist that I would enjoy them, "doing that thing" to me.
A lot of men I've encountered were so sure about how much sex is for them that they would tell me I could and would enjoy activities with another woman. I'm straight, but apparently sex is so much not about me that even my sexuality is completely irrelevant.
Men pressuring me for sex like a used-car sales-man on rent day. If sex wasn't meant to feel like some one-sided thing, why on earth was my no so over-looked. Shouldn't my desire be relevant to these men? Shouldn't my comfort have been relevant to them? But it wasn't, it was just a wall between them and what they wanted, never-mind what I wanted.
Hardcore pornography. Need I go on? I will. Almost all of this displays sex as something done to women for the pleasure of men. You can usually see on the actresses face that she's in pain or drugged out of her mind to be able to endure what is being done to her body. Almost none of the actions are things the majority of women want to do with their partner and certainly not the "way" they want to do it. I don't know how you can watch the majority of this and think this is for the woman.
Actual assault/rape teaches anyone that has been through it that indeed, lots of men think sex is so about them and your body is so much meant to be theirs that it doesn't matter at all even if you say no. You aren't about you and sex isn't about you.

(You may be tempted to tell me on some of these that these were just the bad men or not all pornography, but I would tell you, that this has been my overwhelming experience of men and is why I was a virgin for so long. My man is a significant exception in terms of not being like this).

It is honestly impressive that against all of that, I and many other women continue to believe and behave as if sex is a mutual experience in which we are free agents and it is still about us. It did mean waiting quite awhile to find a good man to share that with.

Also, 80% of women can’t even orgasm with their partner, that number is probably higher for one night stands who only want to get theirs off. Meanwhile, most men finish and think sex is finished when he finishes. I certainly don't think that way and I agree with you. I can only speculate, but these are things that women observe:

men being addicted to porn
porn being directed almost exclusively at men
men paying for girls on OF
men stating that nothing about a woman matters as long as she is hot
men willing to have sex with almost any woman

That gives some woman the idea that a man's entire life revolves around sex, and if you don't 'give' it to them they will go berserk. If you stay for long enough on this sub you will get the impression that men view women as a sexual object that only exists to serve them.

Women who think still think sex is done to them into adulthood usually come from religious or otherwise sex-negative backgrounds. These cultures don’t tend to discuss sex as a whole and only talk about it in procreation terms so a lot of women don’t even realise sex is something for them to enjoy.

But even in modern cultures, sex is absolutely framed as something done to the woman. It’s actually something women complain about a lot? Just look at some of the words done to describe sex: smashed, hit it, banged, give it up, passed around. The language around sex very much implies it’s done to the woman, and is weirdly violent. A “round” implies is usually counted as when the guy finishes. In media, sex is usually shown as the guy and girl finishing at the same time the first time they have sex which is a rarity to say the least.

Multiple reasons.

1) sex reduces our SMV and RMV. Most women know this. We know every time we have sex, we are giving away a piece of our SMV/ RMV and donating it to the man we are having sex with.

2) a lot of men don’t respect boundaries. Examples include:

Some women, especially those who have casual sex, get that impression because some men like to present it that way and some sex very much is like that. Because a lot of times it is something done to them where their pleasure and comfort are not considered. Sex can be a wonderful shared thing, but too often that’s not the case. Part of this is simply that women’s sex drives are typically lower, so he will want it more frequently than she does. Second, women’s anatomy makes it much harder to achieve orgasm or feel pleasure from intercourse, and much more likely to feel pain from it than a man is. So the partner has to actually care that she enjoys it, and she has to know how to communicate what she need as well.

And last but definitely not least, because a lot of men act like it’s something that is done to women. It’s +1 for him and -1 for her on the imaginary scoreboard. They say horrible things about women with high n counts, yet want to raise them. It’s not a very appealing prospect to most women.

I think a lot of women are just kind of taught that it is. Even though I’m a pretty “sex positive” person I was always told that being “easy” is one of the worst things that a woman can be, and I still internalize a lot of that.

I was taught that sex was something women just let men do by the adults in my life, that they have to work for it, and even though I don’t feel that way anymore, my parents and grandparents instilled that into me from a very young age.

A lot of women don’t grow out of that though, especially if they go into their teenage years without a very high sex drive, and don’t experiment with their own bodies, it can be easy as a girl for sex and self pleasure to just not be part of your life and that to follow you into adulthood. It boils down to being taught very little about sex and having little exposure to female pleasure.

Also, obviously the orgasm gap. But we can’t expect that to be fixed until people are taught about female pleasure.

I think this may be because there are so many men who treat sex as a primary objective and will say/do whatever to try to get to that point, and it doesn’t matter who the women is, just that she’s reasonably attractive enough.

On the other hand, in a lot of relationships biology unfortunately makes men have a higher sex drive (ofc not always) but that does lead to a situation where to keep a relationship happy sometimes you end up having sex when you don’t really feel like it :/

It is not one-sided by nature, but women have been brown-nosed for so many decades, told that a man is lucky to be able to fuck them and should be expected to provide and behave like a good faithful boy before being considered deserving of their “gift”.
