I have the same concerns about military personnel and police, and particularly the latter. The domestic violence rate amongst cops is a major problem, and I’ve known two women in my personal life who dealt with abusive husbands who had careers in law enforcement.

Otherwise, I wouldn’t say anything is an absolute deal-breaker. However, I would prefer to date an educated white-collar worker.

Nobody that calls themselves ceo without reporting to a board (that is not themselves)

Ugh, not fully answering but I was at a bar talking to the table next to me and one of the guys was in the military and he asked for my number and I said no. He kept pressing me over and over for a reason why and I finally told him well, it’s because you’re in the military. Now he starts pressing me about what’s wrong with the military and so I’m sitting in this bar like a fucking debatelord with this man, and when I finally convinced him that the military is in fact bad, he got so mad that he got up fuming, and walked away, never to return, and we had a good laugh about it. Why would someone want to know why they were rejected so bad?

My wife used to work overnights on call, picking up transporting and processing dead bodies. She currently works at a truck stop as a diesel tech and almost got killed last night when a semi truck tire exploded hard enough to destroy the rim. Had she not walked away seconds earlier she would have been hit by the explosion.

And I still wouldn’t date a cop. I don’t tend to have much in common with white collar workers, but that not any kind of dealbreaker for me.

Elementary School Teachers: Just personal experience, but every elementary school teacher or woman who was majoring in elementary education who I knew was dumb as a box-of-rocks.

Nurses: More personal experience, but a lot of the "mean girls" usually went into this field for some reason.

Anything that falls into the "sex worker" category: I mean good on you for doing what you need to do to put food on the table, but it's just not for me.

If I had to date again, anyone in hospital healthcare or emergency medicine would be a hard, HARD no. Firefighters, probably no as well.

The cop thing, I've heard of women who dated cops and then, upon breaking up, the whole department was sent to harass them so badly they had to move. This is an interesting question and a little difficult to answer as I don’t think I’ve spent much time pondering it. Nor have I dated men in a huge variety of professions to gain some opinions by experience.

I don’t really like military culture and wouldn’t enjoy needing to spend a lot of time around it, so probably not military. Similarly police officers. Similar professional athletes.

I would say no to professions that are highly violent or illegal, certainly.

I like spending time with my partners so there is probably a certain level of high-intensity profession that would end up being incompatible with the life I want to lead - I wouldn’t go so far as to say ‘no lawyers!’ but lawyers that routinely need to work 60+ hour weeks wouldn’t appeal to me, for example. I imagine there are a lot of professions like this where the high-performers wouldn’t be a good lifestyle fit.

I despise "creative" types who are less organized, disciplined and logic-based.

I have zero interest in law enforcement types or military. Not out of politics but because I dislike their lifestyle.

No "artists" which means nothing in music, drawing, etc.
No free-lancers or gig workers.

Let me just say, I wouldn't have a hard rule about the professions over fear about DV or trauma. I have seen it all, and I promise you every man had a tipping point, where he will turn if you push him past a certain point.

Unfortunately, I found out what mine was years ago. It changes how you see the world and yourself. With that said, even when my PTSD was at its worst, I could never lay a hand on someone unless I thought they were trying to harm me. DV often stems from a fight or flight response imo.

The hard truth is that life can be nasty, brutish, and short no matter who you end up with. I've never subscribed to the idea that relationships are about happiness. To me a successful relationship is about survival of each other and your offspring.

That's why I have a real problem with modern women (at least with taking them seriously). (A) You cant pair bond as well with promiscuous women; and (B) I have no reason to be believe she will stay by me if I get knocked on my ass. That's why we seem to look at promiscuous women with disdain, because all men learn that you can never fully trust them.

Which sucks. When I invested myself in a woman, I invested everything. I loved "to the death." If you get my meaning. I know that it is more fashionable to see relationships as disposable products, but it all just seems frivilous and useless to me.

Honestly watching love "turn off" like a light switch, and her expecting that I could forgive her leaving me after I got sick to go f*ck some dude after 10 years, changed how I see women and society in general. I was ready to die for this person and she threw me away when it was convenient to do so.

A man's love is proportional to his investment, and honestly we have more to lose when it goes south. I loved the fantasy of making someone else happy. But at the end of the day, Marriage and dating in general just seems like a liability for me.

Sex isn't enough for me to pursue a relationship with someone I know will not be held accountable for their actions if they betray my trust. Hell, they are often celebrated and validated for it.

I have attempted to date both an actress before and a model at separate times. Both careers were dealbreakers for me, I was unable to deal with my own personal jealousy issues despite the chemistry which we had. It wasn't only the people which they had to be around(very handsome, sometimes quite successful, sometimes powerful men) but it was also the type of roles women are expected to play and the type of emotions they are expected to portray with their costars(or coworkers in the case of the model). It was not something I could make myself comfortable with.

Traveling jobs would also likely make me uncomfortable, only due to the fact I enjoy spending a large time with my partner(not lacking free time or time apart) and if they are gone for days at a time every month, I think I would start to feel lonely. The actress I was with often had to travel as well, which compounded the issues.

Obviously sex work would be a dealbreaker for me, but that's just because I am quite monogamous. Even non-sexual potentially sensual touching(like a massage therapist) would be a problem for me.

I would prefer to date someone who doesn't live their work 24/7 as well. But I think that's not career specific.

I will go against the grain and say military depends — regular enlisted are a gamble because yeah a lot are cheaters…but SOF guys are a big YES for me — most of my long term relationships have been with SOF guys and only ended due to moving or death (I would’ve married him 😢❤️)

A lot of women talk about not wanting to be around “violent guys” but I’ve literally dated a guy who was nonviolent and he ran away when we got jumped by 3 men walking back from dinner…they raped me and that fucked me up for a long while — he also hoped to salvage that relationship…never again

I was dating a military guy and his house (I was staying over) was broken into. I woke him up, he locked me in and told me to call the cops. He handled it and I didn’t have to worry. Really sad that he moved to the east coast.

In my life experience, it’s not enough to be around a nonviolent guy — it’s better to be around a violent guy who is gentle towards you AND can protect you from violence.

I would have the same concerns about the social media influencers. It's an unstable career and stability is important to me.

I also wouldn't date a therapist because I'm a therapist. For some reason I've never liked the idea of dating someone who's in the same profession as me. My partner is a software developer so his skill set is very different to mine. I like that because a lot of his weaknesses are my strengths and vice versa.

Anything where them being gone away for multiple weeks is the norm- MIGHT make an exception for military/ first responders as I really respect that but highly dependent on the person and circumstances.

But otherwise, pretty much anything, as wild or as tame as you like, as long as the person themselves isn't an ahole, they're fine by me.

Other than “scheduling”, what have been the consistent patterns among nurses that render them undatable?

I’ve dated 4 nurses over the years, and while 3 were various flavors of crazy, they were quite different and ultimately didn’t seem any crazier than the office drone types I dated.
