Being rich doesn’t equate to having looks or social skills.
Cost of living in your area matters. 100k a year in CA isn’t special, while in AL, it’s huge.
The background of the women you’re trying to attract also matters. I’ve dated women who made more and who made less. I made enough so that they didn’t think I was broke, but I wasn’t exactly showering them with gifts, fancy dinners, and trips to foreign countries.

I married my husband when we were each making around 30-35k a year in 2009. Fortunately for us because of the timing we were able to buy a foreclosed home about 40 minutes away from the area we worked at. We kept our wedding small to afford the down payment with an FHA loan (we had been saving up for almost 2 years), had our first kid in 2011, second in 2014. Money was tight but manageable with effort and some elbow grease.

He is finishing a BA this year, I finished mine in 2008. He is 43 this year, I am 40.

We both each make around 100k now (although it has only been a few years of that kind of money).

Money only matters if you are going to blow it all and screw your partner.

My tips for a successful relationship are:

1: Be honest about your goals and work together to create SHARED goals. Update the goals yearly.

2: Support the other person when they are sick or working to help achieve your shared goals while letting them do the same for you. I have spent 2 years doing a lot of solo parenting while he was building up his career (he travels often now) and diligently working to complete his degree.

3: Talk. Honest communication takes effort. If something is bothering you, discuss it with your partner. If you are feeling overwhelmed or need help- talk about it. If your partner expresses interest in something, learn about it with them even if it isn’t something you have a specific interest in. I have learned so much about advanced maths now that I can hold a conversation even though I hate it. If your partner has an issue listen earnestly and don’t jump the queue and try to hand wave it away. Leading to my next point…

4: Own your own shortcomings. Recognize when you are absolutely shit at something and actively work to mitigate the impact. Do not use your personal deficiencies as a reason to place undue pressure on your partner. Get therapy, hire a landscaper, change work hours, make boxed dinners. No one is perfect and can do everything, but you should be able to pull your own weight. I handle our finances because I like doing it and I’m better at it even though he loves math. I clean the bathrooms and he does the dishes. I hate dishes and will let them sit for a whole day. He hates scrubbing tubs and will let it get gross. Finding ways to complement one another’s weaknesses is hard but worth it.

5: Give one another grace, but don’t abuse it. No one is mentally 100% forever. Deaths in the family, accidents, job losses, illnesses, etc happen to everyone. Those times are rough and you need to pick up your partners slack while they recover. It doesn’t give anyone a “be an asshole for free” pass. Boundaries exist and should still be respected. Just make an earnest effort.

6: Ups and Downs - every relationship is rocky from time to time. Make the decision early on that you will work to make it work. If you are dedicated to finding solutions together, most things can be overcome. Sometimes it doesn’t work out, but at least you know the effort was there.

7: Finally - Mutual Respect. Don’t try to change or control the other person. Be a whole person yourself before trying to make another person fill in your gaps for you. It won’t last if someone has to hold your personality up as well as themselves. Don’t be petty if they change their hair, or gain a few pounds, or decide they like iced coffee in the mornings. You will annoy your partner in certain ways, but if it doesn’t harm anyone just accept it. My husband leaves his socks under the computer desk. It is like a sock graveyard. Drives me crazy. It literally has no bearing whatsoever on how much I enjoy my life.

When I've seen videos of women saying they need a guy to make 100k or some other ridiculous number, I kinda always assumed that either

1) they have no idea what the average salary is or how unreasonable it is to expect a 20-25yr old to earn that (and that once they get into the real world & start work themselves their expectations will be checked by reality)

Or

2) they were born into money and expect that because that's what their family & family's friends make.

Even if that isn't the case and all or some of those women truly want a guy who earns that much, they won't all be able to get one... So they'll stay single and become a generation of 40-60 year olds who are depressed and lonely, then (maybe I'm being optimistic here) but then maybe people will actually see this is a problem and the next generation of women will learn from their mistakes.

Yeah even as I type it it feels naively optimistic.
