First off, both genders are lonely. Men are more lonely than women but there’s an explainable reason for that.

The male loneliness epidemic centers around how men don’t have friends, not a romantic partner, just friends. Women do a better job constructing a social support system than men. With that being said some women also don’t have friends and are lonely. This mostly stems from people being chronically online. If they went out they would probably meet some people.

Dating apps has took control over the entire dating scene and no one who's is not on the top of the hierarchy struggles alot. Those who say go make friends or do socialisation should know that most people are meeting through apps not offline mode. Women are also opting out of bars and clubs, they prefer to be in groups undisturbed. Honestly, you don't find any women who are open to dating offline, let's be real. Everything is overcrowded men.

What exactly is stopping men from joining social, hobby, or sports groups and making friends?

Are these men continuing with professional help or had they simply sought it at some point? Going to therapy for a few weeks and then stopping would count as seeking help but that's clearly not going to do much.

Now there are studies that have found different therapy strategies work better for men vs women, and if they aren't being implemented on a widespread scale, that's something worth looking at. We've once again found an excellent issue for the manosphere to take up, but they instead tell men they shouldn't go to therapy at all and also paternity testing should be mandatory.

First, “lonely men” is often code word for incel. Even on this subreddit it’s used as a way to tip-toe around incel/black pill sympathy.

Second, where there is a gathering of incels there will be a higher concentration of blatant misogynists and men who hate women. And that’s proven time and time again. Every iteration of incel forums (both on and off Reddit) has resulted in men there admitting they want to control women, harm women, rape women, etc. They are even mean to each other, saying it’s over and that it’s better to abandon hope and commit suicide.

Even here on PPD, we have a higher concentration of men who openly hate women, who say women should start giving men pussy otherwise men will start raping women en masse, etc. We have men who get so upset at seeing women talk about their relationships that they leave unprompted comments like “I hope you get pumped and dumped” or “I hope you get used.” We have men who are so bent on being on their bullshit that they make alt account after alt account just to spew hate over and over.

That is all just par for the course when in spaces with incels.

Men being lonely as in not feeling like they have a solid support system, no one to turn to in times of hardship, feeling judged for needing support—all of that is valid, and they deserve mental health resources to combat that.

But there is no alleviation for lack of pussy, which is what “lonely men” seems to mean these days. And while I sympathize that you can absolutely feel lonely due to not having a romantic partner, that is no one’s problem to fix except for the man in question. Because you cannot force women to have romantic/sexual relations with someone else.

I seem to remember that when I didn't have any significant other in my life, it was mostly the men that did have significant others (and not any women) were those who were making me feel bad about it and made me feel somehow inadequate compared to them. In general, I'll say this: the key to not be alone is to be attractive. There are many ways to be attractive. Looks are the most obvious, and easiest if you're lucky. Money works. Charisma is probably the most rewarding. The bottom line is that "attractive" is just the initial reason for people who know nothing else about you to want to come around.

However, being alone is not the same as being lonely. Loneliness is a product of your mind and how it processes circumstances, not the circumstances itself. In an otherwise healthy brain, all emotional problems have emotional solutions.

Is it really clinical? Or is that just what they’re being told? I know quite a bit about depression actually. So much of it, I’ve never seen a therapist try and treat or fix. Such as the strong link between depression and metabolic dysfunction considering your gut is your second brain. How many therapists are even trained in metabolic health? A lot of these people don’t need therapists, they need doctors. But here you are trying to push therapy like a religious cult. Debating with you isn’t much different than talking to a holy roller. I like how the gap keeps on increasing. The actual gap in the Pew survey was 29%, which isn't corroborated by any other source. Three GSS surveys between 2021-2024 show singleness gaps between young men and women show gaps between 2-11%. Surveys from The Survey Center on American Life show gaps around 10% as well, including one with a higher sample size. The only reason we keep hearing about the Pew survey is because it's an outlier statistic that fits a popular narrative. It makes for good headlines and viral social media posts. It's not because it's the most accurate. Moreover, even in the anomalous Pew survey, most of the gap between young men and women was caused by a higher cohabitation and marriage rate among young women, leaving little room for the 'chad harem' narrative that you want it to show.

The prevalence of online dating has also been overstated. About 75% still meet offline, and this rate is actually higher among young people since they more recently had social opportunities at university. There is also no evidence that they are facilitating 'chad harems'. Actual outcome data (dates and sexual encounters) shows no gender disparity, and the most promiscuous men are not reporting more sex partners in recent years than they did in the past.
