Promiscuity is encouraged in women because it's viewed as "empowerment" Women are supposed to feel all "powerful" because they fuck a lot of guys. Women's primary source of power is their sexuality. Women long ago learned to harness their own sexualities to manipulate men and get men to do or not do things they want, and to get men to give them things. I agree with you. I think men are fed a lie. The happiest men I've ever met married someone when they were young, and built a life together. Men get a lot out of emotional commitment. Promiscuity messes with your brain and leads to anxiety/depression. It also leads to weaker bonds for both parties.

In my personal world (but my parents are not from the west), promiscuity is looked at as a bad thing. I was a virgin for a very long time because I had major hangups about having sex pre-marriage, meanwhile a lot of my friends were trying to encourage me to sleep around. Seeking pleasure is not a mental ailment, its a weird claim. Although maybe you can make the argument that western people are addicted to sex. Addiction being the definition that when some behaviour impacts daily life negativley, and we are too focused with casual sex at the neglience of establishing a family. I would say having kids late (30+) as opposed to somewhat earlier (25+) poses as a risk to negativley impact daily life in many different ways; harder to concieve, hurry to find partner, higher potential for genetic defects etc. But I would also claim that having kids too early (18-23 women, pre 25-27 men) poses a danger for mental health in terms of depressive thoughts related to feeling you missed out.

So I fulle agree, establishing family, and doing so earlier, should be a more praisworthy goal. Although abstinence is not either praisworthy, but an unfortunate reality for quite a lot of men.

I'm sorry you feel pushed by society to do something you don't want to do... really society should push you to explore what makes you happy! If that is a single partner or no partner, then there is nothing wrong with that.

Perhaps its a bit of a reaction against the traditionalist views that limit the ability to explore.

Sex has traditionally been contained by religion as a way to generate and raise lots of children. The goal was not personal happiness but rather the generation of human resources for religions and states, and both supported restricting sexual activity to that which produced children, which would grow up to add to the power of that organization.

For myself, I feel a strong biological imperative to have sex with many partners. I logically do not want these activities to generate children. Sex for me is more of a recreational activity for increasing happiness, just as any other enjoyable activity or hobby.

Lastly, I view declining birthrates as an overwhelmingly GOOD thing. The planet is overpopulated, and we should really think about living in balance with the organisms we share the earth with.... we've done so much damage to nature, and really need to preserve what remains for the biodiversity that gave birth to our genetics, and therefore our entire civilization.

Having hundreds of sexual partners is one thing, but not having enough sex is also indicative of the possibility of mental illness. Our species has evolved to have sex with multiple people. It's apparent when you look at our biology. Probably wiith exceptions, it is the rule that more sexually dimorphic (the two sexes having differences in their bodies) species generally tend to be less inclined towards monogamy. We aren't as sexually dimorphic as some other species, but we are definitely sexually dimorphic, and we definitely aren't monogamous as a species by nature. Depending of how one defines promiscuity, a certain extent of promiscuity is completely normal and healthy for our species, and that can be reflected by the social encouragement of promiscuity.

Again, a certain level of promiscuity can be (but isn't necessarily) indicative of mental illness, for example, like a person having an unhealthy compulsion to have sex with strangers to feel good about themselves or as a coping mechanism, leading them to have sex with a lot of people, but the reasons for a person's behavior (excessively seeking validation through sex) are the mental health problems, not having sex with lots of people itself. Having sex with lots of people is just an indicator, a sign that there could potentially be underlying mental illness driving this behavior. It is possible to be a relatively mentally healthy person who has sex with a decent amount of people.

For me personally, I'm not into playing the field, as I have a great partner who I am perfectly satisfied with, and I have never really been a very promiscuous person anyways, so I might sometimes raise an eyebrow to the sexual culture in the West, but I also understand why people would want to get fucked up and have a weekend long orgy with complete strangers. Sounds like fun, just not so much for me personally. I can see that some people are grappling with their problems by using sex to cope, but I don't think that having lots of sex with lots of people is necessarily harmful in itself, and I'd even say that it is healthy and helpful for some people.

Edit: I also want to add that, commercially, almost everything that has to do with sex is extraordinarily unhealthy for both society and individuals (social media algorithms, advertisements of all sorts, products of all sorts, etc.)
