I have 3 requirements.

1) Similar values (I'm a moderate Christian, I value health, I want a clean home, etc).
2) Mutual respect - Meaning we can have a conversation about our disagreements and not have it turn into a fight.
3) Learning and showing love in your partners preferred language - I'm an affirmation/touch guy. I want to hear some genuine compliments, get some cuddles, and have an active intimate life. I also expect myself to learn her love languages and show her love.

All the other stuff are just details you can work out and compromise / work through if you have those 3.

There was a girl I dated back in 2020.

I was ready to commit the moment she expressed interest in me. She was perfect in every way. Not just beautiful, though she was most certainly that. She was funny, smart, kind, caring, laid back, effortlessly easy to talk to. Just the whole package.

She was by far the most attractive girl I would ever have a chance with and I knew that if I didn't lock her down into a relationship I'd regret it for the rest of my life. And I have. It took me a long, long time to get over that failure. I'll never fully get over it.

For me personally, it hit me towards the ending of watching "La La Land" (Great movie, amazing music, highly recommend) like 5 or so years ago. In the movie, both main characters end up breaking their relationship and pursuing their own, personal dreams. One wanted to become and actress and the other wanted to own a Jazz bar.

For me personally, my parents have both had somewhat wildly separate dreams in their lives. My father wanted to be a pilot for the US Navy, and my mother wanted to be a scientist. They also had me very young which throws a wrench into the whole mix. They made it work by doing it together. Yes, my father was deployed a lot, and my mother was left alone sometimes. Yes my father had to watch me a lot when my mother went to school sometimes.

What I didn't understand about the movie is why they didn't work together to achieve both like my parents? She could have become an actress, gotten all this money, and then he could have bought the Jazz Bar with her profits and they live together happily ever after. They both get what they want. Then it hit me. They don't work together as a team. They're both selfish and are only interested in their own dream. They are more in love with their dreams than each other.

The point I am making is that being on someone's team is basically what a marriage or long term relationship is. You put the team first. You put your teammates needs above yours. You are loyal to the team. You work together to make your team better and stronger. There is no "you and I", just "us". "Us" against the world. Obviously this sentiment isn't easy to communicate on the first date, but once you start dating more seriously. This is the sort of thing that really screams "life partner" to me. The fact that she just wants to be on the team, rather than just hanging out with one of the players.

Selflessness and nurturing qualities. I'll never leave my wife despite holding mostly RP beliefs because she's a true ride or die. She's said multiple times she'd take a bullet for me, moved out of her home state for me, stayed by me when I was broke and supported me at my lowest points. You can't put a price on that level of loyalty. I only got married because I know it'll benefit her. Then the #1 thing a woman who's wife material could have (and my wife and my most serious college GF were the two who met this high bar):

Legitimately unsolicited does you favors without expecting anything in return because she wants to make your life easier.

This is not because it's something to be taken advantage of! Rather, it's a huge green flag that shows you this person genuinely cares about you in ways that go beyond what you can do for them, and tap deeply into legitimate love or care for you as a person.

And, to be clear, this is not negotiated things. It's unsolicited. It's being on a phone call with her and talking about some problem you're having, and she goes "I can help with that", immediately offers to put herself out to help you in some way that involves her time and effort, and actually follows through on it without asking or demanding anything in return. It's inviting her over after an overnight shift, falling asleep, and when you wake up the sink full of dirty dishes is all gone and in the drying rack, spotless. It's her knocking on your dorm at night unexpected, bringing you a smuggled meal from the cafeteria and the notes from the class you missed cuz you had the flu...all because your passing text mention that you skipped dinner made her want to drop everything and take care of you. Stuff like that.

That last one is super important because a lot of people think that they're looking for their perfect puzzle piece, which is a lie that has been sold to you. Mind you I am against marriage. That being said, what would make me change my mind is this:

Femininity. She has to be feminine both physically and mentally. So being physically attractive is a given and also willing and happy to have kids. This is non negotiable. And it has to be authentic. None of that fake ass "Trad Wife" bullshit. I mean a woman who is genuinely feminine because her genes, temperament, moods, her brain, and world view say so.
Intelligent. I find it pleasurable when women have a mind of their own that isn't a fucking carbon copy of whatever stupid ass fad is trendy for the month. I really enjoy how some women think and view the world.
Knows how to be happy. Some women just get so happy and pleased over the dumbest and most simple little things that their happiness is contagious. I am really drawn to women who can just be by themselves and find something to keep themselves happy with.
She's more of a homebody. I really prefer women who are content being in one place and aren't in some stupid ass crisis attempting to "discover themselves" through partying, traveling, or some other mentally unstable bullshit.
Nice and pleasant body odor. I have a very sensitive nose for a man. Most women smell nice by default cause they just take care of themselves but what I'm talking about is your actual scent. When I kiss women I am also taking in her scent from her face. Ladies, if you are not aware that we can smell you just from the areas around your eyes, nose, temples, and mouth well then now you know why men hate makeup because it blocks our ability to smell you. Perhaps this is just me, but it's my main reason why I don't like much makeup in women. When I kiss you I can't get your complete scent and it just feels plastic and artificial.
Has respect for me. This one is also non-negotiable. Obviously this one goes both ways. I will always give back tenfold what I expect for myself from a woman in a deeper and committed relationship. I ask for the minimum and in return she will get a lot more.
Trust. Women who trust me are sacred to me. Not in some simp cringe ass way, I mean that I value a woman's trust in me because I understand how valuable it is to her, and I would never cross any lines to break their trust in me. I am willing to work with them in anything and figure shit out and have the patience of a saint for her sake - only when the trust between us is for real.
Committed. If a woman has all of the criteria above and is just as committed to me as I am to her then we're set!

But this conditions have never happened in my life, and never will, because it is all a fiction. So fuck it.
