One of the the key ways that women test for men who are not just after sex is by their willingness to invest financially in her. In times gone by, when we didn't have birth control, no abortions, no internet and religion played a bigger role in society, this was a very logical thing for men to do. Men received a clear benefit in return for this, which was a loyal gf/wife and sex to go with it.

These days, it's possibly the most stupid thing a man can do and will almost certainly lead to being taken advantage of. It's now estimated that up to 1/3 of women go on dates purely to get a free meal, with no intention of seeing the man again. This 1/3 of women has ruined the dating process for the other 2/3 of women, and there's no obvious way for a man to tell whether a woman falls into the 1/3 or the 2/3.

I was the victim of a woman using me as a free meal ticket myself - I went on 4 dates with a woman, buying her a meal and drinks on 3 of them, before it became clear that she was using me as a meal ticket and was never going to have sex with me. I felt like a sucker and was too trusting. Never again. Her breaking that trust has ruined it for any other woman I date.

Second, women are sexually liberated. If they want sex and the man is attractive enough, generally speaking they will have it very quickly. In times gone by, with no birth control or abortions and religion frowning upon this, this never happened. Now it's extremely common. At the back of a man's mind, if he's paying for multiple dates with a woman and not getting sex, he will always be concerned that the woman would have had sex earlier with a different man. Maybe she is having sex for free with another man on the side. Why invest financially when another man in her past probably didn't have to?

So these are the single 2 biggest reasons why men don't invest financially anymore and expect sex early or otherwise they move onto a different woman.

- women working like they often didn't in the past (not all women in the past had their own money to buy their own stuff without a man supporting them, now they earn their own money)

- feminism/equality movement (women are equal to men so why can't they also pay for their own stuff like men do?)
