This seems to imply 40 year old men are marrying 38 year old women, not 19 year olds.

So I think the data seems to show men tend to marry women around 2 years younger in America, but not so in Africa.

As a 32-year old man, I don’t feel in any way too old to get laid and have fun with women.

The issue is though that if you get into a proper relationship with someone you truly love, it would be nice to share some actual youth with her. If I were to meet the love of my life with us both being 35 or so I’d settle for that, but it’d be a shade bittersweet that we were never “young together”.

Is that so unreasonable an outlook?

First of all, I’ve not got a clue why I have to explain this. It really ought to be self-evident to anyone with a shred of imagination.

If you love someone, it’s only natural that you want to have the opportunity to share as much of your life with them as possible.

There’s so much of life which takes place between 18-35 which can’t be regained. Going on nights out, playing sports and doing activities, climbing up the career ladder when it’s new and exciting, friends getting married, in-laws being younger and not elderly, both looking as sexually attractive as you will do, not having to worry about having children as an immediate decision to be made.

Denying all this is nonsensical.

I think society is covertly trying to lower the age of perceived youth so that people feel old at younger ages and thus feel more compelled to settle down, have kids, start businesses, etc. at younger ages.

From a certain standpoint, this is what benefits society because it means increased productivity and a stable workforce. But at the same time, it is at the cost of individual freedom and happiness so in the grand scheme of things it is not a positive thing that we should support.

I’m going to be 36 soon and I feel like I’m at my prime. I’m in the best shape of my life. I have a few scant grays, but other than that I look exactly the same and no one can ever guess my age correctly.

My 20’s sucked big time. I have so much financial freedom now. I have split custody of my son, so I get to be a mom part time and still have fun other days. It’s honestly pretty great, I’m still very much into the EDM scene as I was 10 years ago. I don’t think I’ll start feeling old until I’m 55+.

But yeah the best part of getting older is that you really don’t GAF what people think. Live yo life. ✌🏼🫶🏼🙌🏼

I’m 29 and no one guesses my age correctly. I usually get mistaken for a college student or recent college grad. People are shocked when I tell them my age. Im not scared of hitting 30 because I know I’ll look the same. I think women who have kids age the worst. Thirty has never been old to me.

I’m sorry but when you get hundreds of men in their mid to late 30s reaching out to ask you out or to hook up with you when you’re only 21 is weird. And yes, MANY women believe it is creepy that older men go after younger women. I’m talking like 10 year age gaps. We know that somethings up if he’s lowering his age range. One commentator here mentioned something which truly resonates with me. I am 32 atm, and whoever I find now will not be someone I shared my youth with. While to many people it may seem I am living in my own past, this thing really matters. From poverty to where I am now, I was not with my "future SO", but the "future SO" will benefit from my years of living in modesty and saving money for future. Now, what other commentator did not touch upon, but I will: once you get in relationship, girls from my experience will usually demand from you to trust her and look at her like she was in that part of life. Most of women I meet now expect me to immediately jump with them in something super serious, while I knew my postman longer than her. Additionally, my friends were there for me throughout all of my struggles, but all of sudden I have to put this new person as my number one priority over them? If you have true friendships, you will understand the magnitude of this struggle.

Yup its not middle age. You found an anonymous person online saying something foolish. However, when we talk about dating, it is "older". No one is as interested in dating at 40 as they were at 17. It's not the same game. That's trp point. Maybe it gets repeated poorly by fools. Maybe it doesn't encompass all exceptions. Maybe someone enjoyed their 40s 10x more. It's irrelevant because we are explaining how to understand dating on a macro scale.

Maybe someone has the same options at 40 they did at 25. It will not be the case for most. Which is helpful to the most of us.

girls around here turn VERY stressed and serious around 28-29-30, which means it's harder to just have fun and people are going to be let down by you.

Matching with 25y/o girls is a lot harder being 35 than it is for a 29y/o guy.

Don't get me started on thinning hairline and wrinkles adding up.

So yeah I don't consider myself old, but I do consider myself to making a big mistake living my 20s like I'm 30. It's a lot harder to live your 30s as if it's your 20s.

At a certain age a man's sperm quality drops significantly, if an old man and a young woman have a child together, you're taking an absolutely idiotic risk and have an increased likelihood of producing an inferior child, if impregnation is even possible for the man. 30's is middle aged. By the time you're in your 60's you aren't going to be able to live like you had and if you make it to 70's and 80's you aren't going to be doing much but trying to take care of your health.

30's is very much in the middle of the productive and capable part of your life and close to the middle point of the average lifespan, thus is "middle aged". Yes the guys who think it's over when you tick from 29 to 30 are being melodramatic but there's no reason to deny reality.

If only we took all the energy spent on convincing ourselves that the wall doesn’t exist, and channeled it into some useful endeavor. Sorry, age and time exist. People’s desirability decreases with both. It’s ok it’s not the end of the world but it’s real. Appearance-wise, we don’t know when a specific individual will start showing age in their appearance, but we know that over time that risk increases. So it becomes increasingly irresponsible to tell people that age won’t matter to them, when it becomes increasingly likely to matter. It does make you less desirable and we should quit trying to lie to people so we feel better.

30 years is not old but 30 is just an arbitrary number and at some point in your life you will get old. People at different points in their lives will want different things and there may be a point in your life that you will want to find someone and get hitched. Here is where statistics come in: the older you are the smaller your dating pool becomes.

I think op missed the point and the point is that ppl shouldn't just live in the moment and should look to at least not close doors for options in the future. You might not want to marry now but if you do things that'll sabotage your chances in the future. that's not really either empowering or liberating and if things does screw up in the future then you only have yourself to blame. Finally it is okay if you do want to be single for the rest of your life... (Whether you are a male or female) but you'll need to figured that out and have no regrets in your decision.

As a 33yo I got to say, being on your 30s doesnt make you old, BUT you are not young anymore either.

Just compare what your body could handle when you were 20, and then add ten years of aging, you dont recover from a hangover as quickly, you dont handle lack of sleep as good as before, physical excersice becomes a bit harder and gains dont come as fast as before, expresion marks in the face, I could continue but you get it.

I only feel like 30 is old in the dating realm because it seems like everyone else has already settled down. I’m the only single 30 yr old I know and I’m not about spend energy I don’t have to mingle or do a bunch of social shit in hopes of finding someone - that all feels like something younger people do.

Which is why you shouldn't waste it. By the time I hit 20 I knew what I wanted out of life, and was well on the way towards it. Conversely whilst 'living your youth' is important; things like family have always been important to me. So when younger, impacted(gratefully so) a lot of my decision making.

I'm not saying your 30's are old. If however prior, you invest your time wisely; you'll reap the benefits into that decade, and beyond.

For someone who has good time, time goes pretty quickly, 30 years old isn't old.

For someone who went through hell, times went super slowly, 30 years old can feel very old. Youth, innocence and happiness, fulfillment, belonging to a group/society may be things you never really fully experienced.

Hear hear! I had some of the dating best experiences of my life after crossing over the 30 year mark. Yes I could get horny all day at the slightest breeze in my supposed sexual peak of 17-22, but I also didn’t know or care enough how to touch a woman, and I did not or could not control the “ascent and descent” as well. Quality experience trumps quantity. I also probably did things when I had had too much to drink so there’s that.

Sometime in my late 20s and early 30s I learned more about technique and control and I developed more confidence with women. I believe in healthy aging to some extent but I believe the best time for men is really from about 28-45 given they are drug and disease free, in shape and have their personal and professional matters mostly in order and on point.

30 isn't old in general, but it's basically senior citizen when it comes to dating. Humans have a limited window to have kids, which is the point of dating. At 30, it's closing time. You need to find someone soon or you're gonna fail.
